Not to be insensitive... - Questions
C&K*s Mommie wrote: But a movie called United 93 will be opening this weekend in box offices. If it comes this way, I will surely want to see it. Not that anyone could ever forget, but that was the plane that went down in Pennsylvania on Sept 11. But my question is was there not a made for tv movie out recently on the same flight? I would never be insensitive to that national tragedy that happened; however, I was more curious if I was not thinking of a different movie. Maybe by a different name.
Also, some have said that America is not ready for this; Being that the 5yr remembrance day is coming up soon. Do you think you would see it in theatres, if it were coming to your town??
Here is an article on the movie on FoxNews' website: 'United 93' opens, but will America watch?
Kaitlin'smom replied: I have heard enought about it and NO I wont go see it, yes I am courious but I cant bring myslef to sit there and watch it. I dont think I could handle it.
BAC'sMom replied: No I don’t think I could go see it. I would get to emotional.
mckayleesmom replied: No...Im not going to see it....WHY? Because I don't think I will ever be ready to see it. I know the outcome and thats bad enough for me.
JP&KJMOM replied:
I agree even still pics make me sad so I know a movie would.
MamaJAM replied: I didn't watch the tv movie and will certainly NOT being paying to see it in a theater. Simply put - that was a very bad day in my life (and the lives of many others)....seeing a dramatization of it is not something I want to do.
Bee_Kay replied: I actually have no desire to see it.
ashtonsmama replied: I've heard it's pretty well done, but I, like the rest of you, am a little curious, but still don't think I'll want to go see it...
Kaitlin'smom replied: according to the makers of the movie ALL the families were okay with them making it, and some were very involved with it.
3xsthefun replied: I'm not sure if I want to see it or not. More then likely I won't though.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I saw previews of the made for tv one....and could not bring myself to watch it. Its a heart breaking tragedy that I just dont want to sit there and watch. So like the others I will not be watching Flight 93 in theaters or at home on dvd/vhs.
kayla's mama replied: I really have no desire to watch it. What happened on that day is imbedded in my head and I don't need a movie to make it more real, kwim.
5littleladies replied: I guess I'm in the minority here. I'm not sure if I will see it in the theatre, but I do want to see it. I've heard that while it is about the events on 9/11, it really focuses on the people and what they did. Those people made such a brave sacrifice, and I'm interested in knowing more about who they were.
ediep replied: I wouldn't mind seeing it, but I do think its too soon. I'm not ready yet. Maybe in 5-10 more years when the feelings aren't so raw.
My2Beauties replied: I think it would be a major tearjerker movie for me to see, but I would be interested in possibly watching it. I don't know it depends on if a couple of other people wanted to go as well.
gr33n3y3z replied: They were running something on A&E about a few months ago not sure what plane it was I'm almost sure it was the one in Pa.
I will not go and see it I've seen enough of of the real stuff on TV
moped replied: ITA
Chiflata2003 replied: YES I will see it. I saw the tv movie also. I dont see why not.
Celestrina replied: No, I don't want to see it. It is still too new and it makes me sick that people are making money from it so soon.
redchief replied: I've mixed feelings about the making of this film. I'll probably get it when it comes out on DVD.
My3LilMonkeys replied: ITA with this. I will not be seeing it in the theater because 1)DH doesn't want to see it and 2) I know it will be a very emotional experience for me. When it comes out on DVD or on HBO I will watch it. These people were brave enough to try and defend our country - they were heroes. I would like to learn more about them.
moxee24 replied: I watched a review that interviewed the director and he said that he talked to all of the families and that he had all of their support to make the movie. I think that I would like to see it, but will wait until it is not in the theaters anymore. Like everyone else I can get really emotional about things like that and don't want to cry in public, would rather do it in my own home.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Please know that I respect everyone's opinions here. I thank everyone for letting it be known how they felt, because it is and will always be a tender subject. But I did wish to add one thing. I ran across this today.
Universal Pictures Donation Flight 93 National Memorial (released March 30, 2006)
It was announced today by the Families of Flight 93, that the Flight 93 National Memorial will receive 10 percent of all box-office revenue collected from the three days of the North American release of Universal Pictures United 93; which opens in theatres Friday April 28, 2006.
Flight 93 National Memorial
I added this to simply note that the production studios are not padding their pockets with all of the revenue based on this true life event made into a movie. There are also people that were actually there in the airline communication towers (not sure of the technical term) on 9/11, that will also be in the movie.
holley79 replied: Nicole I saw that today also. That is one of the reason I will go see it. DH ended up getting called in on high alert that day. It was a very hard day for America but I think the movie is going to shed some light on the bravery of those passengers. I think it's great they have the full support of the families and that they are contributing back.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Same here.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: http://www.wmtw.com/entertainment/9053335/...0204282006&ts=H This was in the news today about how it will be the most important movie of our times.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I didn't read the other posts... and I'll probably be criticized for this - but - I TOTALLY expected there to be a movie on this. Come on. A major disaster... figures SOMEONE in the US would want to make a profit from it.
Next will be a movie on the horrors of Katrina.
Some people (...er...companies...) just don't know when to let it go... tragedies don't need to be brought back again and again in people's minds just to turn a profit. (As opposed to it being a documentary or something commemorating the lives lost... ya know?)

A&A'smommy replied: read that on my local forum.. I'm not sure what to think about it..I would actually like to see it, does that sound bad? I amagine I will cry like a baby but I mean its a true story.... ALSO I won't watch it in the theaters I want to wait and watch it at home by MYself!!
jcc64 replied: I plan on taking my 13 yr old ds to see it. He remembers that day,( as does my 10 yr old ds, but I don't think he's old enough to handle it yet) and the subject came up pretty recently between us about the whole 9/11 thing. He was asking me how it was logistically possible for a few guys with box cutters to take a plane down when they were so clearly outnumbered. I think there are alot of lessons there, not only about that specific day in history, but also about human nature in general- and I think it's a pivotal time in his emotional development and social consciousness. Sometimes, a picture's worth a thousand words, and while it will be incredibly difficult to sit through, I feel it's something we should bear witness to together. We knew someone on one of the planes that crashed into the Trade Center, and living in NY, this is still a profound part of our everyday lives. This is not about entertainment, or profit, or anything else. I believe it's an earnest attempt to honor the lives of some very brave people, and I will support it.
redchief replied: I suppose I should share the reason I will not watch this movie in the theaters. I will not watch it in the theater because I know the movie will make me very emotional. Unlike a lot of Americans, I read the entire 9/11 Commission's Report. I feel for the families. The story of United Airlines Flight 93 needs to be told. I'm sorry that ANYONE is making money on it though. All proceeds from the film should go to the families of those lost on September 11. It's the least we can do.
NEWMOM05 replied: I Have a friend who's friend's dad was on that flight. I will go see it so that I can support them and they can see once again what selfless and heroic people there Dad was in his last moments.
I will cry all the way through it, I know it.
Brias3 replied: I don't think I want to see it. Granted, its wonderful that they are commemorating the brave people that were onboard that flight and giving us all some realistic answers as to what's behind their story but at the same time, I question whether or not this is a necessary remembrance. Part of me feels as though the tragedy shouldn't be converted into some sort of entertainment and that its really just a "wound-opener" to the families and friends of something still very fresh in our hearts and minds.
C&K*s Mommie replied: After one of the first question in the original post was answered here, and also in the article that I read that was given in this thread about why America should see this movie, I remembered that I was very emotional (more like it took my breath away in the realism of the portrayal of what happened that day) when I caught a portion of the made-for-cable movie earlier this year. At times like that I wished we had DVR again, so I could pause it to regain my composure. So this caused me pause to think that maybe I should wait to see it on DVD as some have mentioned, as well. I think I will continue on with my plan to see it in the movie; if everyone is emotional in the theatres (and rightly so) then I would not be that single person that has puffy eyes from bawling during the movie, I will not be that one person needing a moment after the conclusion before I walk out. Similiar to the comraderie we had in the days & weeks following this dark day nearly 5 years ago, I think there {may be} a comraderie after seeing this film. It is early, it still is fresh & I am doubtful anyone that was old enough to know what transpired and understood-- I am doubtful they will ever forget. And in a good sense, no one should. I am also glad that the family members of those heroes that perished that day, gave their blessings for this film.
Thank you all for your responses. If anyone has anything to add- please do so. But I wanted to thank everyone for posting their opinions and thoughts.
