Not sure where to put this
Danalana wrote: Tomorrow is my postpartum checkup and I'll be 5w3d postpartum. My problem is that I started my period a week ago and it is just getting heavier and heavier. It's worse than my heaviest normal days. I'm practically gushing (sorry for TMI) today. I don't remember this happening with Kade and Carter. I mean, my periods usually last 5 days and the last couple of days are usually pretty light. I've never had this happen. Anyway, is it ok to go when I am bleeding like this. I know he's just checking to make sure I have healed properly and that my uterus is back to normal size....plus, he will be wearing gloves. Do any of you know?
Our Lil' Family replied: I would think considering the situation it's actually better for him to see it right now. That way he can get a better idea of just how heavy it is. Let us know what he says!
Danalana replied: OMG...this is as bad as the bleeding right after birth. I think I've pretty much ruined all my underwear. I tried wearing a tampon but it's too uncomfortable. I figured it would be since I haven't been able to wear one comfortably since Kade and Carter were born. Yikes.
boyohboyohboy replied: I used to have super short periods, like clock work, until my third baby. I've chalked it up to either the c section or getting my tubes tied, just because those occurred only with him, but I now am completely unpredictable, very Long and heavy periods...maybe it's a third kid thing, or age? I mentioned it to my dr last time I was in, but she seemed to think it was no big deal....because she doesn't have to deal with it. I hope your dr has some better ideas.
coasterqueen replied: I don't think it's necessarily a third kid thing, because I had the same exact thing happen to me after Megan. I had all kinds of problems after having her. I agree, under the circumstances I'd definitely go in. My doctor just said that's just the way it is sometimes after having kids. Not what I really wanted to hear.
ETA: correct my grammar, lol.
CantWait replied: Dana, it's normal for things to be wonky for awhile, BUT if you're soaking a pad in less than an hour or if there's clotting there should be area for concern. good luck.
PrairieMom replied: Yeah, Gross to go in when you are bleeding, BUT, trust me, no matter how gross you are, your DR has seen WAY worse. LOL. If things are wonky , best to be seen.
Danalana replied: He said I would have irregular bleeding for 6-8 weeks after the birth. Friday will be 6 weeks. I wouldn't be concerned if it weren't getting heavier and heavier. He did say it looked like my period, even though my nurse had said it could still be blood from the birth. I didn't think that was it because it had lightened up so much after the birth. This is bright red and I have seen some small clots. I stand up and I just gush. It seriously feels (and looks) like right after I delivered. Aaah well. They checked my iron and it was alright. I guess if I start feeling light-headed and weak I'll know something is definitely wrong
Our Lil' Family replied: Just speculation but maybe since your uterus probably hasn't returned to the normal small size, maybe that's why your period seems heavier. I'd give it 10 days to 2 weeks and see what happens. Annoying though, I know!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: That sounds awful! What Naomi said sounds reasonable. I got my period back around 7-8 weeks postpartum with both of mine and I think it was kind of light with both. But my first period after my miscarriage was just like what you're describing... I got it 3 weeks to the day after I miscarried and it was so bad I was a little afraid I was having another one- it was actually worse than the bleeding from my m/c and there were a lot of clots. And I knew because of the follow up u/s I'd had after my miscarriage that there wasn't anything left over from the m/c so unless it was another one, it was just a really really bad period. After having Alison my periods were super heavy and clotty until just recently.
I'm glad you decided to go to your appointment and that your dr doesn't think it's anything to be worried about. I hope it slows down soon though - I know how draining those heavy periods can be! (Absolutely no pun intended - gross! )
Danalana replied: My period wasn't like this with Kade or Carter. Seriously, when I stand up, blood goes everywhere! I hate this feeling. It's why I always wore tampons until they were too uncomfortable. My bathroom looks like someone was bludgeoned to death!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I don't know... that doesn't sound good to me. Did your doctor realize how much you're bleeding? Are you feeling weak or lightheaded? I wonder if you should go in again or at least call - you could be hemorrhaging. Is it worse than it was when you had your appointment?
mckayleesmom replied: This really doesn't sound right....I think I would be getting a second opinion.
coasterqueen replied: Believe it or not, this is exactly how I am if I don't stay on BCP. After Megan was finished nursing I decided to try to stay off BCP, but the bleeding was so bad, big HUGE clots and gushing all the time. Come to find out that my ovarian cysts decided to come back and join me. So back to BCP I went. My doc still didn't think it was any big concern, though.
Hope it gets better for you
Danalana replied: With Kade and Carter, I had a normal period afterwards. I started bleeding and cramping and having bright red blood LAST Monday and it's heavier now No cramping anymore but this is ridiculous. I don't think the doctor understood how much I'm bleeding. It's so much that I feel like it's coming out everywhere when I stand up.
luvbug00 replied: Dana the feeling like you just released a river is how mine are every month..unless i have two in a month (which i have done before as well) really hate changing pads like every hour. It's normal for me and I'm used to it. but boy does it suck.
Danalana replied: Yuk. If it were normal for me, I wouldn't be concerned. I do have heavy periods but they only last 5 days. The last 2 days are usually a lot lighter. This thing just seems to be picking up pace and it's day 9 of my period.
PrairieMom replied: If you are still concerned I would call again. Maybe then they will realize this is really not normal for you
coasterqueen replied: I agree, I would call if you are feeling that way. Also remember, what was normal for you before may not be normal for you now. Your body changes each time you are pregnant, and even if you were normal after two pregnancies, doesn't mean you are for the third.
Danalana replied: Update....I'm done! It just ended yesterday. And check this out. I couldn't wear tampons after Kade and Carter, at least not Tampax Pearl. I even tried the last one I had during this period. Could only keep it in for an hour because it was so uncomfortable. I could never feel them before the babies. Well, I decided to try Playtex Gentle Glide and I used it with no problem! WTHeck?
PrairieMom replied: Dunno. I haven't been able to use tampons since Ben. No clue why. they are just uncomfortable. I don't like pads either, they are so hot and bulky. I found that I really like using Momma cloth. Its like pampering my butt.
My2Beauties replied: I use Kotex or Playtex too Dana....those daggone Pearls suck if u ask me!
mckayleesmom replied: I couldn't use the pearls either...made me feel like I was being speared...lol
