Not giving her sugar has really paid off!

MommyToAshley wrote: It was my MIL's birthday this weekend so we took her out to dinner.

Ashley had the chicken strips from the child's menu. She loved the chicken, and she ate some of the french fries but she liked my baked potato better than the french fries. My MIL got a free desert and she chose apple cobbler with some ice cream on top and asked if it was ok to give Ashley some. I let her know it was ok. Ashley took one bite of the apple cobbler and then went back to the chicken tenders and reached for the remainder of MIL' baked potato. LOL rolling_smile.gif She preferred the chicken and potatoes over the sweet dessert. Everyone was so surprised. She's never really had a lot of sweets except for some occasional ice cream. I hope she continues this trend! thumb.gif

~CrazieMama~ replied: Awwwwwwwww, I wish Brianna was like that. She likes her sweet except for chocolate milk...lol

paradisemommy replied: wtg ashley!!! unfortunately, ds got dh's sweet tooth..he LOVES sweets - in fact, i was making him pancakes for breakfast and only putting a little butter on it but he would only eat a quarter of it - this morning i put a little syrup on it and he gobbled it all up so fast!!! but thats ok because he's getting much better about letting me brush his teeth..i don't have to sit on him anymore and torture him...j/k..it wasn't THAT bad!! emlaugh.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: thumb.gif Don't you love it when they do that! My children are like that. There could be a table full of desserts and a tray of veggies and dip and they always go for the veggies and dip! I also have to say what a great MIL you have for asking first. My MIL wouldn't have asked she would have given it to her anyway!

I haven't given Claudia chicken nuggets, did you have to cut them up or was Ashley able to eat them the way they were? Claudia also loves baked potatos and french fries.

jem0622 replied: Gabe only likes cake at bday parties. And sometimes ice cream. But we don't keep those things around. He loves veggies and would rather eat them than fruit...so we have to be creative. My eldest DS, on the other hand....is a MAJOR sweet tooth. wacko.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: That's awesome!

Zach is a little sugar freak...if he sees it, he wants it.

Kaitlin'smom replied: thumb.gif WTG Ashley! Alto I did see he enjoying that ice cream the other night... ohmy.gif But seriously Kaitlin does not care much for sweets either, she would rather have her veggies or some pasta over fruits. I did give her a tast of Icing from a birthday cake last sunday and she went back to her fishies (goldfish cracker), she did not seem to like it to well..........

ediep replied: what a good girl! Personally, I'd rather have the apple pie than the chicken, but I'm glad that Ashley chose the healthy option wink.gif

DansMom replied: It's great to hear that Ashley is making good food choices on her own! I haven't given Daniel sweets yet. Right now he prefers veggies/meats to fruits anyway, so I hope that trend continues.

I love your new signature btw---Ashley is so cute!

MommyToAshley replied:
They weren't really nuggets, they were long thin chicken tenders that were all white meat so they were easier to chew. I also cut them up. I always cut up her meat because I am sooo paranoid of her choking.

MommyToAshley replied: hehe, yup that ice cream did make her a little hyper, hehe. I do let her have ice cream or a juice popcycle on occasion (especially when she is teething) but only after dinner. And, she would probably choose fresh fruit over it.

This reminds me of something funny that happened at dinner tonight. After dinner, I gave Ashley the choice between a cracker and an arrowroot cookie (almost no sugar in them). I held one in each hand. DH and I were betting on which one she would take. I said the cracker because she LOVES crackers and DH said the arrowroot cookie because she likes to put her finger in the hole and eat the cookie by turning it around on her finger. Which do you think she choose? She reached for both of them... grabbed one with each hand. LOL rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
rolling_smile.gif thats funny guess she wanted you both to win! rolling_smile.gif
