Never let it be said that I don't know my limits

MyBrownEyedBoy wrote: Okay, I concede defeat. I simply cannot beat the dripping faucet in my shower. I have changed the washers, I have reseated the darn thing (that was a treat) and I had a plumber come in and change the valves. But I have been bested. I can't get the darn thing to go back together now. The plumber is on his way with new valves (ones I can get parts for) and he is going to put them in correctly. So, no more dripping faucet and no more backwards valves. At least it's a bonus when we sell this house that the shower isn't dripping. So, now we're gonna be down about $300. But it's coming out of the "rainy day" fund so I still have Christmas money.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Send him my way when you're done. I have THREE dripping faucets. dry.gif Enough to drive me insane.

I'm glad you're getting them taken care of, sorry you had to resort to calling a plumber, though...they like to take our money. dry.gif (sorry, Ed)

Calimama replied: $300!? That's nuts. I hope the problem is fixed after all that.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Hughie really is a good guy. And he's never done me wrong. They recently went to pricing by the job instead of by the hour, which I think is a bit better. But we'll see.

TheOaf66 replied: yeah it was probably just the valve seat inside the faucet handle, we had that problem when we bought our house, it was just one of the many band aids I have had to fix there. Like I always say we bought a 2 story house before we bought it we got one story after we moved in we got another story.

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Oh that's good!! thumb.gif Around here they price by the hour, but before that, they tap you with a $150 service call...just to drive up to your house!!! mad.gif

sparkys2boys replied: yikes.. that's alot of money for a drip..lol.. hope it gets fixed!

redchief replied: "Taking" money? Tell me, when you go to work do you feel badly about bringing home your paycheck? That's what I thought. wink.gif

We will bill jobs either by the job or by the hour. Any job over $500.00 is billed by the job and a written estimate given. Anything below $500.00 and we leave it up to the customer. As a general rule, extra money is built into a "whole job" estimate to account for unknowns. Three hundred dollars for a new tub faucet install, at least here in this locale, is quite a bargain. Your job would cost about $380.00 here.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Final check written = $275. And I do consider it a deal. I know that things out here cost less because cost of living is less. So, I now have a shower that won't drive me bonkers. And while I was sitting home waiting for the job to get done, I boxed up a bunch of Logan's old toys to make room for Christmas. I'll donate them to GoodWill and the tax deduction will be about $75, so I suppose you could say I spent $200. Either way, I am thrilled I don't have Chinese water torture in my bathroom anymore.

redchief replied:
So, financially it wasn't such a hot day, but in terms of accomplishment it sounds like you did very well, Kelly. thumb.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: At least it didn't come out of my Christmas money and I also get the warm fuzzy of helping less fortunate kiddos. Thanks, Ed.

My2Beauties replied: Glad you got it fixed, we're still having leaking problems in our house. We had a plumber come look at it and say oh tighten this thing here with a wrench and you'll be fine....NOT....it's still leaking down in our basement from upstairs. dry.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Man, isn't that the worst sound? It about drove me nuts for nearly 3 weeks.

lisar replied: Glad everything got fixed for you. At least it wasnt TOOO much.
