Miles's Dr appt. - uh oh

huggybugboy wrote: I took Miles in to get his flu shot and I got some bad news. He is off the chart under weight. He has not even gained one pound in over two months. sad.gif From what they told me he is definitely having enough formula but they told me for the next three weeks that I need to push more solid food (he already eats at least twice a day.) and even more formula. bawling.gif I feel so bad. I knew he was small but not this small! Today he weighed 15 lbs 5 oz. He doesnt look sick or anything. They said in three weeks, if he hasnt gained anything, they'll have to do a bunch of tests. bawling.gif just great.

mom2tripp replied: I'm sure little Miles will be just fine, he looks perfect and I'm sure that's what they will find out IF they have to do additional tests thumb.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: hug.gif hug.gif I'm sure he'll be ok. Don't feel bad ~ like you said he doesn't look sick or undernourished. Just start giving him as much as you can but I wouldn't worry about it too much yet. hug.gif

PrairieMom replied: hug.gif Don't worry, I'm sure he's fine. Just take things as they come. Everything will be alright. Feed that kid loads of stuff he likes! hug.gif

A&A'smommy replied: awww hun as long as he is healthy I'm sure he is fine some children are just small!!! hug.gif hug.gif

MomToMany replied: hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif I'm sure he's fine. At that age, they are becoming more mobile, and are burning a lot more calories. They should take that into consideration. And some babies are just small; SOME have to be on the low end, right? My youngest daughter was only 16 lbs. at 1 year old. She wasn't on the charts at 9 months old. But she's fine (despite her heart condition).

Try not to worry! He will be just fine!!

sunrosejenn replied: don't worry too much ... he looks healthy ... Eliana is 13 months and a month ago she weighed 16 lbs 12 oz and on Jan 6 we go back to get her weighed and go from there ... she has only gained 1 lbs 8 oz in the last 6-7 months ... she also has eating issues ... she drinks 24-30 oz of Prosobee Next Step (Can't handle Milk) and maybe eats 1-2 tablespoons a food a day

huggybugboy replied: thanks guys. I know I shouldnt worry, but I am. I guess thats just a moms job. Three weeks just wont come soon enough so that I can get him weighed again. rolleyes.gif

jcc64 replied: Try not to worry too much about the weight gain- from another BTDT mom. Corey wasn't on the charts at that age either. As long as he's energetic and lively, and hitting all his milestones, he's probably just a little guy. Everyone can't be in the 100the percentile.

kayla's mama replied: I'm sure everything is fine. He looks like a healthy guy, I wouldn't worry to much about it. hug.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: I've been trying to get two free hands all day to respond to this post. I'm beginning to think that those "charts" are really skewed. A seemingly high number of us on this board have kids who are "low on the charts". Hmmmm

Anyway, Katherine was, and still is small for her age. At about 8 or 9 months she dropped from the 50th to the "less than 3rd" percentile. The ped (who I LOVED) was concerned when the curve kept going down. We saw hormone doctors, cardiologists etc and took tons of blood from my baby. It was a very trying time. Luckily for me, my ped was very supportive of breastfeeding and she encouraged me to try to increase my production and K's nursing since BM has the highest concentration of nutrients. I did try to feed her "real" food but she wasn't very into it. We found nothing wrong with Katheirne. She met all of her milestones. She was pretty active though, walking at an early age etc. Her curve stayed at the bottom of the charts until her three year checkup when she jumped to the 5th percentile. Woo Hoo!

I know it can be hard to see your child be the small one, and it is impossible to not worry about any number of issues that may be causing it. CF, heart problems, malabsorption problems are all leading causes of "failure to thrive". However, if he is doing well otherwise, I'd try to just chalk it up to increased activity. Try not to worry. If you want to see a shining example of me being a total hypocrite, go find some of my posts from about 2 years ago where I was FREAKING out about the testing and stuff.

huggybugboy replied:
Thank you so much. You are such an encouragement to me. I'm still freaked out, but at least I'm not the only one. It just semes like he eats so much. I cant imagine why hes not gaining weight...
