MommyToAshley wrote: I took Ashley to visit Mamal today. She kept trying to pull up on their end table and cruise. I kept pulling her back because I was afraid of her falling, but she REALLY wanted down and to cruise. So, I let her. And, I should have listened to my Mommy instinct because she fell and busted her top lip! bawling.gif I was sitting right there next to her, but I went to move a toy so she wouldn't trip over it and let go of her for only a second! She does really good at home walking around holding on to the couch, the entertainment center or the wall, but we moved the coffee table out of the family room.

She cried so hard when it happened. I picked her up and she burried her face in my shoulder and then I saw BLOOD!!!! OMG!!! It looks like she might have cut her lip on her tooth, but it doesn't look like she damaged the inside of her mouth. It only bled for a few seconds, and then I let her suck on an ice cube and she was happy. I was still upset but she was happy.

I am such a bad Mommy.... I should have listened to my instincts and not let her down. Bad Mommy! banghead.gif

~CrazieMama~ replied: Awwwwwww, poor Ashley. Your not a bad mommy. I have done the same thing with Brianna. She wanted down so bad, so I put her down and darn if she didn't slip on the floor and fall face first in the floor with her pacifier in her mouth. She screamed loud and hard. She dug her face in my chest and then I saw blood. She bled for a minute or so and then was fine. But these things happen by mistake. No need to beat yourself up.

supermom replied: No, you are not a bad mommy!!!! You let her explore, and that is what she needed to do....and she had an ACCIDENT!!

And if there is one of us who says we've not BTDT, then I would say they were full of it!

MomofTay&Sam replied: Awww you are not a bad mommy!! Ashley was just wanting to go. Poor thing I hope her mouth feels better.

Mommieto2Girls replied: Your not a bad mommy, you shouldn't be hard on yourself at all. Accidents happen all the time , that's why they are accidents. It sure won't be her last bump or last bloody show, so we all have to somewhat get used to it and be there for them when accidents happen.

CantWait replied: awwww hope Ashley is feeling better. Don't beat yourself up Dee Dee. You were probably being a better mommy by letting her explore and test out her new found skills.
Hugs to you and Ashley grouphug.gif

MomToMany replied: grouphug.gif I hope Ashley is feeling better! You are NOT a bad mommy! I can't tell you how many tmes this has happened to my kids (a couple of them are kinda clutzy rolleyes.gif )! It sure won't be the last accident she has, so don't beat yourself up too bad! Sometimes you have to let them make mistakes, it's how they learn! And they might get bumped and bruised along the way. It maks a mommy feel so bad, but just think of the new skills she will learn by exploring and learning! You'd think my kids were geniuses by all the "exploring and learning" they have done!

grouphug.gif to you and Ashley!

Julie (jem0622) replied: Hugs to Mommy and girly. She is okay. Not the first or last time that she will fall down. It's going to happen. Go easy on yourself!

ediep replied: AAWWWEEE Poor Ashley!! I guess when the babies start cruising, we are going to have to be prepared for falling. She is fine...don't beat yourself up over this. You are an awesome mommy!!!

Kaitlin'smom replied: your not a bad mommy accidents happen!

a big hug to you! grouphug.gif

MommyToAshley replied: Thanks everyone... I know accidents happen, I was just mad at myself because I *knew* she was going to fall and she did. I was just upset that I didn't listen to that Mommy instinct. But, you are right, falling down is part of the learning process... I just hope we both survive it.

Her lip looked ok last night, but this morning there was a dark red spot... I think a piece of the skin came off and there was a little spot of dried blood. sad.gif bawling.gif But, it doesn't seem to be bothering her.

victoire2002 replied: You're not a bad mommy! I learned something new last week, when Aidan fell over and hit himself on a dresser leg. If your child develops a hematoma, or a goose egg on his forehead, that is GOOD. If this area caves in, that is BAD. That means bleeding inside. I learned that because in a panic, I called 911 and had an emergency EMT team come visit me after this happened!! By the time they arrived, Aidan was peacefully playing, no tears and all smiles. All of this, mind you, with a huge goose egg on his forehead, a proud reminder of his fall 15 minutes earlier!

So, don't worry. The best thing you can be is vigilant, but we still have to let our babies explore and learn!!!
