Mamogram -- ultrasound - follow up today***long story

amymom wrote: So today I went for the ultrasound, I wasn't too concerned because the order said --"Abnormal Mamogram follow up ultrasound" and then it said "subareolar" and the only thing I could find on the internet for subareolar was about an abscess which is common in young (pre children) women and middle aged women. (boy made me feel old tongue.gif but I guess I am middle aged). Anyway it was not a bad thing and I wasn't worried.

So I get there and the tech is asking me questions, like "do you know why we are going to do this?" so I ask her .... will you tell me the results? And she says no the radiologist will give the results to your doctor and then your doctor will contact you. So I ask about when this will be and she says oh today, and i ask if it will be before I leave. She says no. So she is poking and proding and ultrasounding my breast and taking picture after picture, measuring these little black spots that show up on the U/S screen. Takes about 20 or 30 minutes. Then she says, I am going to go show this to the radiologist before you leave so wait here. So THAT is when I think I should be worried. You know, why the change. Then she comes back and she says ok a few more pictures and she takes more pictures and then says "don't get dressed yet just want to show these to the doctor" So she comes back and cheerfully says Ok all done. The radiologist will get these results right over to your doctor. So I leave the office, and in the parking lot call my doctors office and they are closed for the weekend!

Anyway, I guess I won't know anything until Monday (unless they take Columbus Day off). So more prayers and positive thoughts. I am still hoping that it is nothing, cysts or something minor. There is no breast cancer in my family. Not my mom or her 7 sisters. Not my Dad's mom (he had only one brother) or any of woman that I know of.

A&A'smommy replied: well that wasn't very nice!!! Here's hoping the weekend goes fast and the give you a good report!!! hug.gif

luvbug00 replied: P&PT for you!! hug.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: P&PT's

on the side, when I was having kidney problems they were doing ultra sounds and x-rays, they wouldn't ell me anything but a couple of times left the room telling me they were done just to come back in and say they needed something else. I think in general the techs just don't know exactly what the radiologist wants to see so they will think they have it all then find out they want, another angle or area.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Boy she sure left you hanging! I would have been so confused - first she makes it sound like you're not going to hear anything that day, and then she tells you to wait, and then tells you to leave. rolleyes.gif

P&PT's!!! I hope everything is fine. hug.gif

I am totally hoping the best for you, but I hate to tell you....BC can hit ANYONE. It's not just a genetic thing. My Dad's side has it running rampit in the women, but my moms side doesn't have it at all. Yet my mom has had 2 tumors removed from her breasts (non cancerous thank goodness!). Since my sister died of BC a few years ago, I've researched this crazy disease like crazy. It hits women from Puberty through 90 years (mainly 30-40 yrs), and in some cases has even been found in men. sad.gif

I'm hoping and praying that your case is just a cyst. hug.gif Please keep us posted. hug.gif hug.gif

amymom replied: Thanks everyone. No results yet. mad.gif Doctors' office said to call again around 4pm. So that is what I will do. blink.gif

Thanks for all the good wishes.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Anne, you've been in my thoughts and prayers. What time zone are you in? hug.gif

amymom replied:
Thanks everyone. Eastern Time zone. Didn't think of that sorry!

So, I was just able to get on here. Mostly good news! Thank God. I spoke with doctor around 4:30. Basically, they found what they say are 3 cysts and they want to monitor (watch with ultrasounds, every six months) two of them but recommend having the third surgically removed or asperated under surgical ultrasound because there seems to be some 'debris' in it. WTH? Forgot to get that explained. Anyway, I am scheduled to meet with the surgeon on the 24th. She said it wasn't anything urgent. I did ask if a biopsy would be done and she said reassuringly that that would not be necessary and even the surgeon may not take the radiologists recommendation and may wait on this third one. So there is some relief there. I am sure I will panic again by the 24th. rolling_smile.gif
The doctor I have been working with on this is the Family practioner and I am scheduled to see the gynecologist on the 20th, for some other problems so I will discuss this with her as well.

Again, thanks everyone for all your well wishes. The prayers and good thoughts make a huge difference. Thanks hug.gif

MyLuvBugs replied: That is good news!! Don't worry about it. You're going to be fine!! smile.gif I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Make sure though if you feel that you need a biopsy, you get one even if they say it isn't necessary. You know your body better than they do. hug.gif hug.gif I'm so glad it's only cysts sweetie. You must be completely relieved to hear that.

gr33n3y3z replied: Oh good wink.gif

((hugs))

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh I was just thinking about you when I was driving home!! I'm so glad it's good news! greenapple.gif I bet your next appts will be just fine! hug.gif

A&A'smommy replied: That is GREAT news!!! thumb.gif hug.gif

amymom replied: Thanks everyone. I appreciate the well wishes. I have read online that reducing caffeine helps reduce cyst size. So, although these can't be big cysts, since I and the doc can't feel them (nor hubby rolleyes.gif ) I am going to switch most of my tea to decaffeinated. Since water and tea are my only drinks that will help I hope. It also said eliminating chocolate from your diet helps too. idontknow.gif I don't know if I can do that tongue.gif I need my chocolate.

Anyway I will update after the appt on the 24th. Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers. hug.gif
