Lent!!
Calimama wrote: Is anyone giving anything up?? If so, what?
Anthony275 replied: sex & everything with it
luvmykids replied: I'm telling your mom
CantWait replied: I need some help with that. Going away I'll be giving up a lot already for 6 months, so I don't know what I can really give up that I won't desperately need.
Any ideas?
Last year it was pop and I lost a ton of weight over the 40 days. I haven't drinken a lot of pop for awhile now, so I'd need something different.
lovemy2 replied: I think I am going to give up alcohol - I really don't drink that much - only when we go out - which isn't all that much - but I am going to start Bob Greene's Best Life Diet next week so there is really no point in bothering at all with alcohol.....
My3LilMonkeys replied: I'm giving up soda. I'm really not supposed to be drinking all that caffeine while PG anyway.
Brias3 replied: Nothing in specific (I tend to have as much difficulty sticking to it as I do New Year's resolutions! ) but one thing we do as a family is stick with the old tradition of abstaining from meat on Fridays. We also go to an evening service on Fridays, as my church offers one during certain times, specifically the Lenten season.
redchief replied: I hadn't really thought about it. I'll be observing fast and abstinence on those days it is required. I'll spend more time in prayer and reflection... so I guess I'll be giving up some free time to pray. Does that count?
amymom replied: Yes it counts!!
I think Lent can (maybe should is the right word) be a time to grow spiritually by giving up or adding to our life. We could pray or learn more about the reason for the season. Marie, that would be my suggestion to you. If you wanted to learn more about the bible, there may be time for you to do that by reading while you are away. Just a thought.
kimberley replied: i plan to give up yelling/cursing and hope it stays away for good. i have a problem with stupid drivers when kids are not in the car and am prone to raising my voice after asking someone to do something for the hundredth time in an hour. i just don't like it and neither do the kids.
i also hope to attend church more tho it is a feat in the winter with 4 kids, one of whom is an energetic, loud toddler lol
Twelve Volt Man replied: I'll pick up your slack. I've decided that on days when I wouldn't ordinarily have a beer or three, I'm going to give up NOT drinking.
Anthony275 replied: you're supposed to give up something you love....i suggest YOU give up steak, at least
Twelve Volt Man replied: In that case, I'll give up Jessica Simpson... at least I can actually HAVE a steak!
Anthony275 replied: i cant tell whether you're dissing me or you're actually serious that you can have a steak and not have jessica simpson
Boo&BugsMom replied: Ok, then I'm giving up Johnny Depp. Or wait....no I'll give up sports, seeing how I don't watch any anyways.
Ok seriously now though, we've never observed Lent specifically, but I'd like to start doing something like what Ed explained, and just start setting aside more time to reflect on the Lord, study and read my Bible more, and fast.
Twelve Volt Man replied: No dissing you. I was merely lamenting that I cannot have sweet Jessica, so I must settle for the next best thing -- a steak.
TheOaf66 replied: I will give up good nights of sleep...oh wait already did ( )
I will give up all my free time...nope already did that too
ok I will give up sarcasm ( )
I guess I am out of things to give up so I will just wish I had something to give up
Anthony275 replied: give up anything that has to do with the packers, even talking about them and wearing shirts and stuff
