Labor question.....

Mommy2BAK wrote: For all of you veterans, is it true that labor gets easier each time, or do you think thats just a myth? I understand that different babies come with different circumstances, but I was just wondering what you thought, generally speaking.

hopefulmomtobe replied: OH OH ME ME...I can anwer this one!! LOL I think they are all different and unique, but with me, they went faster each time. Not necessarily easier for sure though, but faster.

My first - labor from HELL 7 hours! 1 hour of pushing.
Second - labored at home 5 hours went to hospital at 9.5 cm, straight into delivery
Third - induced, from zero contractions...to delivery was two hours. 6-10cm in 6 minutes!

All were natural births, but this one...bring on the Epi...never had it but I think I want it. I don't want any pain! smile.gif

coasterqueen replied: I wish I could answer but with Megan being a month early my answer would be distorted. She was about 10 hours less in labor time than her sister was, though. happy.gif

ZandersMama replied: my second was much harder, but you all know the circumstances there.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: In my experience it was easier the second time around. My first time I was in labor for 22 hours and pushed for 2 1/2 hours. The doctor used suction to get him out or it would have taken longer because he was stuck. wacko.gif The second time I was in labor for only 5 1/2 hours and only pushed 3 or 4 times - it only took about ten minutes. happy.gif My sisters second time was easier than her first too - with her first child she was in labor for 73 hours and pushed for 3 hours. blink.gif With her second she was in labor for 12 hours with only an hour of pushing.

kimberley replied: labor definitely gets easier because the "unknown" element is removed and most cases it goes much quicker. BUT.. and that's a BIG but... the afterpains... oh gosh... do they ever get worse! i didn't notice til Kaleigh so much but i was a mess for a day and a half after i had her. unsure.gif it was worse than labor/birth.

luvmykids replied: My second was definitely faster, five hours compared to twelve.

Brias3 replied: I'm not one to judge fairly, I had really different situations with each and then a more complicated situation with my last.

I guess the only thing I can say is that the second time around, it was a TOUCH easier because I kind of knew what to expect more, KWIM? Not that it made things less painful or shorter in time or what not, but I guess just knowing made me less uneasy going INTO it.

My3LilMonkeys replied: It was MUCH easier for me the second time.

Mom2Boyz replied: The second one was MUCH faster for me! With Conner, I labored at home for about 12 hours then went to the hospital and was in labor for about 9 more before he was born. With Caden I woke up at 3:30 in the morning in full blown labor, got to the hospital around 4:30, and he was born at 7:47. I had an epi with both boys, so I can't say one was any more painful than the other, but Caden definatly came faster. I also agree with Kimberly, the after pains were horrible with Caden! I felt them for a good 24 hours after he was born.

kit_kats_mom replied: With my first I dilated during the last week and had her uninduced, after 12 hours of natural labor.

With my second, I started dilating and contracting 3 MONTHS before she actually showed up after 18 hours of induced labor.

First was way easier IMO. rolling_smile.gif

mummy2girls replied: well it depends on the person... heres my experiences:

Jordan... I was induced and from start of induction till I had him was 22 hours. My blood pressure was a little high. And it took almost 3 hours to push him out. I have severe back labour as well. I recieved a episiotomy.

Jenna...I was induced and from start to end was 10 hours. My blood pressure was really wacky! It would go dangerously high then really low where I almost passed out 5 times, then it would go normal then bak to low and this went on for a while so i was given meds to control the pressure. And it took 10 minutes to push her out. no back labour and i got a 4 degree tear.

Joshua... Well I dont really liek to talk about that.. but pretty simple...

MotherForever2043 replied: I think its the same amount of pain and frustration. But I heard giving birth to boys are harder. But I'm not sure if its true. I guess I'll find out in 3 months biggrin.gif

CantWait replied: Myth. Labor was longer, and just as painful.

Boys r us replied: I was in labor for 36 pain staking hours with Tanner; 8 piece of cake hours with Braedon and 9 EXCRUCIATINGLY painful hours wit Alliebelle! so..not sure how to answer that..shorter yes, but # 3 was by far more painful than the other two combined.

Maybe my advice should be to stop at #2..lol

lisar replied: I have always heard that if the baby is small then its harder to push them out cause they cant help as much or something. I dont know. I have never had on that way. All c-sections here.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: well mine were all fairlly quick once it got started... and I never really pushed more than a few times... they got bigger and bigger though.

Zach was 6lb 15 oz
Em was 7 lb 4 oz
Naomie was 8 lb 9 oz

I knew what to expect though, so I guess in that sense, it got easier.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: It's hard for me to answer since I was induced both times. It felt like things moved faster the second time, but after a couple hours of laboring with Wesley, I was off to the ER for a C-section, so the whole thing is somewhat of a blur right now.

You will probably have a different experience all together. From what other friends have told me (those that had normal labor/deliveries), yes, things moved a lot faster. But I have another friend who had the hardest time with her THIRD. Not to scare you, but you just never know. wink.gif
