LOL, I'm confused.

Danalana wrote: This is concerning formula. I just don't know how much to say he's really getting. If I fill the bottle to the 7 ounce mark, it actually is almost on 8 after the formula is added. So would he be getting 7 or 8 ounces? Anybody? And yes, I NEED to know because I am a compulsive ounce-counter blush.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I always consider it the ounces it is liquid....

So whatever you fill the line to before adding the formula.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Hum...not totally sure. I'm no help. If I filled the water first at 7 ounces, then added formula, I would always consider that still 7 ounces. I'm not sure if that is accurate though.

TeesaŽŠ replied: Going the whole logical route....

You're not feeding him water and you're not feeding him formula powder/liquid. You're feeding him the finished formula product. If the water is 7 ounces and the formula powder/liquid is 1 ounce... well, where I come from 7 + 1 = 8. He's eating the finished formula product, so therefore I'd count the finished product.

mommymommy replied: I always considered it 8 ounces..

momofone replied: If i remember it correctly on the can it would say 2 scoops per 4 ounces of water. that would make it four ounces of formula. JMO happy.gif

DillsMommy replied: Hmm...I'm not much help, but I always go by the ounces of water. But doctors always told me to give even amounts of water. Like instead of 7 oz. of water, go up to 8. Even if he doesn't finish it all. Only because it's harder to measure a half of scoop correctly. dunno.gif I could be wrong, that's just what I was told to do and have always done. happy.gif

My2Beauties replied: I just always measured the water. You add 2 scoops for every 4 oz so to me that's 4 oz, even if once you shake it up it's maybe an ounce more, to me it's still the amoiunt of water I added. Shaking it adds bubbles at the top which makes it appear like more. If you let it sit for like 10 minutes or so....it's usually back down to the amount of water you put in wink.gif I've had to do that before after making a bottle, kid gets fussy or needs changing, go back in and notice, all the bubbles are gone and it's usually right at the mark I had originally put in for water.

A&A'smommy replied: I consider it however much water liquid is in the bottle

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: I consider the ounces to be the final outcome == formula and water combined equals so many ounces. . . . .

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: 4 ounces of water, 4 ounces formula. That is why they say to put the water in first. Other way around and it doesn't work because the formula is dense and sits on the bottom, using less water.

MoonMama replied:
Yep, what Rae said. Brae's ped always said it was where you fill the water to and you don't count the formula.

cameragirl21 replied: If you're speaking of total weight, then it's the water plus the formula but if you're strictly measuring in volume, then you only count the liquid, in this case, the water.

Thats what I thought.

Danalana replied: I understand about the ratio of formula to water...1 scoop for every 2 ounces. Here's the trouble I run into...I fill bottle with 6 ounces of water and the formula makes it almost 7 total ounces. Let's say he leaves half an ounce. Ok, if it was 6 ounces, how much do you say he has had? If it was measuring almost 7 total, I want to say he had about 6 1/2. If it's 6 ounces no matter what, then it was 5 1/2....but how do you decide how much he really had? If he took the whole bottle, I understand you could just call it 6 ounces it you wanted to. But when part of it is left, how do you measure?

Our Lil' Family replied: Don't look at it after you mix it! Go by the oz. of water you began with. If you used 6 oz of water and there is 1/2 oz left, then he had 5 1/2 oz.

My3LilMonkeys replied: According to my can of formula, 2 oz water + 1 scoop of powder = 2 oz formula. I find that after I mix it the level is still right about at 2 oz, there's just bubbles on top like Lee Ann said. So if there was 1/2 oz left in the bottle, I'd say he took 1 1/2 ozs.

Danalana replied: do 6 ounces and add 3 scoops...look at the water level before you shake it up.

My3LilMonkeys replied:
Well my baby isn't eating quite that much at a time yet... emlaugh.gif If you look at it after you shake it up that's whats important though - not before.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Dana, my kids always left about 1/2 oz left in the bottle. Most of it are bubbles, but I know what you mean about wondering how much they really got. The doc always told me not to worry about it unless your kiddo is losing weight. But 1/2 oz IMO really isn't too far off from the full bottle.

jem0622 replied: i'd base it on the liquid measure before adding the formula. that's just me.
