Kaipo (our dog) was struck & is MIA

C&K*s Mommie wrote: About two hours ago, Kaipo was struck by a truck, ran off- got spooked by a cat and ran even faster into the field behind our home. Not to bore anyone with the details, the people who hit him were looking for him in the field behind me. I talked to them, and they were apologetic. The wife of one of the men who was in the truck found out that we were the owners of him, and came to tell me what happened.

I went searching for him again, while my neighbors watched the girls. I yelled his name, knocked on doors, and talked to people-- nothing. As I went to the crest of the hill on my street when I first started looking, a young lady asked me if I lost a dog. My hopes went up, and I peered onto her porch only to find a brown dog. So my hopes were dashed almost immediately.

If he was able to run off, then I am assuming he was not hurt terribly bad. I can only hope he is somewhere laying down and is okay. I will restart the search in the morning when Chris is here.

He is home! Brianne (mckayleesmom) came by to drop off homemade cookies and we were standing outside talking about Kaipo and what happened, when he strolled through our yard. He was obviously shaken and skiddish about coming up to us. But he finally did. He wimpered a bit when I picked him up, so I have to take him to see a vet tomorrow. But he is home, and I am so happy!

The girls had been asking about him earlier, and I had to fib a bit and tell him "he went out for a run" They were asking when he would be home, and I told them "in a little while"

All thanks to Brianne coming by and chit-chatting, he was found and he is home.

Crystalina replied: I hope he's ok too Nicole! Poor thing. Our collie got hit once. Not by a truck but by two cars. She ran into our basement and wouldn't come out but when we made an emergency vet visit we found all she had was some road rash. She was so lucky. I hope you have as much luck and don't find any broken bones. We usually tie Squirt up but that day she slipped her collar.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: OMG, I am so glad he's home safely. I am also glad I read a bit further before posting. Hope it's just a bit of soreness from some bumps and bruises. If you have any baby aspirin, you can give him one. But most moms don't keep that in the medicine cabinet anymore.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Thanks ladies for the well wishes.

He is doing good. He has yet to bark once since being home (even when Chris came in the house early this morning, he did not make a peep letting me know someone has entered the house). Other than that he is walking fine as usual, is nosey about what we are eating as usual, very loving like always, too. Basically he is back to his normal self for the most part.

Thanks Kelly for the FYI about the baby aspirin.
