Itchy Nips.

I have itchy nipples. I just treated both me and Alexis for Thrush, so I don't think that its that, I have spells where they will itch for a week or so , then just get better on their own. Is there somthing that I can do about it? is it normal?
coasterqueen replied: Not normal for me. The only time I itched is either when I had a cracked nipple or when I had thrush. And the cracked nipple usually always led to thrush.
Just because you treated for thrush doesn't mean it's gone away for good
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I would get my thrush back right away after treating it - it's so hard to get rid of! I finally decided to just keep taking acidophilus every day and not stop taking it EVER and that helped.
Jamison'smama replied: I would put a little lotrimin cream (per dr. orders) on them a couple of times a day when I thought thrush was coming. It got rid of any pre-thrush problems and is fine for the baby. Maybe a little aquafor on them --are they feeling dry?
PrairieMom replied: I know. I full on expect thrush to be a recurrent issue with us until I am done nursing, but since I JUST got done treating it, and I don't have my personal oral thrush issue going on right now, I was thinking it may be something else. They were itchy yesterday, but not at all today. Although, my Nips are sore, but I think that is becuase i pumped so much at work this weekend.
coasterqueen replied: Well they could be dry or cracked from pumping and that is causing the itch and soreness. Hope it gets better soon.
MyLuvBugs replied: Are your nips dry and flakey at all? Mine dried out something aweful a couple times while BFing lorelei. Never had Thrush just dry skin on and around my nips. But I do agree with the other moms that the thrush might still be there just latent....waiting for it's next attack. Are you putting lansinoh or pure lanolin on them to keep them soft, and changing your nursing pads often? Are you using a pump? If so, did you clean the pump and sterilize it several times after treating for the thrush? Just suggestions.
BTW: I LOVE LOVE LOVE your new siggy pic.
coasterqueen replied: Just an FYI - IF you think thrush might be in the wings again, do not put lanolin on them....it only feeds yeast.
amynicole21 replied: Mine get itchy sometimes. Actually, I find that certain breast pads or bras make me itch like the dickens! Lanolin helps me, though don't know about the thrush issue.
BabyOwen427 replied: I don't know much about the thrush, but I would try to keep your nips clean and dry. Most of the books I've read say not to use soap to wash them, but I use the pink Dove bars and they have not dried my skin out, and I have sensitive skin. And I would defantly take all the bras, pads, shirts, bedding, and baby clothes that you guys wore/used while you had thrush and clean them in the hottest water possible to sanitize them. Hope you don't end up with thrush again.
PrairieMom replied: thats kinda what I was wondering about.
I'm thinking maybe i need to change to a different brand of pads.
PrairieMom replied: oh, I'm sure it will be something we will have to deal with quite frequently. I get it super easy.
msoulz replied: I recall having a burning sensation after nursing (not while, so it didn't present like thrush) for a couple of weeks earlier on. It seemed like giving the nips air time helped that.
