Is this early

kayla's mama wrote: OK Kayla is 4 month on Sat. She's been trying to learn how to crawl. She gets up on her knees but doesn't know what to do after that. She kinda inch worms around the blanket. It so cute. Anyway, MIL asked me if that was early. Everytime I tell about a milestone that Kayla reaches, her response like clock work, "Isn't that early." Just be freakin happy that shes reaching these milestone!!!! growl.gif Sorry for the mini vent. But really, when do babies start crawling happy.gif

mom2tripp replied: I think every baby is WAY different so saying too early or late is just not right. Tripp was up on his hands and knees at 4 months and crawling at 6 months so I would say that she is doing AWESOME. Many things that you read now say that crawling is not a milestone at all but seeing something that they want and finding a way to get to it is the milestone. I don't know I always felt so happy and excited when Tripp would crawl around. But WTG for her she sounds like she'll be around in no time at all smile.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Meh... depends on the child...

I don`t think it`s early at all. Emilie started rolling on her 4th month day... and was crawling not very long after... she was WALKING at 7 1/2 months. Now THAT'S a little early... rolling_smile.gif

I helped my kiddos along to crawl bu putting my hand behind their feet, for them to be able to push off. Maybe not, but it seemed like it was encouraging them to try harder to scoot around... and they were really quick to learn how to crawl.

MissyKay2005 replied: I believe Brandon was around 4 months when he started going up on his hands and knees also but like momtotrip said every baby is different and there should be no early or late really.

kayla's mama replied: Thanks guys I wanted to know so next time my MIL says Isn't that early I can say NO. Ah!! She drives me nuts wacko.gif

Jamielou replied: Well to me it seems a little early of course mine didnt crawl until 7 months. but it is different for every baby laney could roll over and everything then but she wouldnt have anything to do with crawling but when she did get the hang of it she was the fastest little crawler i had ever seen i called her my little puppy cause she would see something she wanted and go get it put it in her mouth and move on to someplace else carrying the toy in her mouth. tongue.gif

amymom replied:
Oh No!! Just tell her " Yes, but as you know Kayla is so advanced that she is being studied by the Children's Institute for Advanced Learning"
That will get her to shut up and think for a little while. rolling_smile.gif

PS: Sorry I am having a bad MIL day. I don't mean to offend. growl.gif rolling_smile.gif

kayla's mama replied:

No offense taken. rolling_smile.gif

Gammy2 replied: WOW, i think that's awesome and seems early to me but as everyone has said each child is differant. smile.gif

mommy_loves_chase replied: it's really cool that she is hitting milestones, always very exciting im sure

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: That seems early to me, but I think it's great! Wil is almost a year old and is just starting to get on his knees. He's been doing the army crawl since about seven or eight months. Probably won't be walking for awhile. I'm not concerned at all!

Warbride replied: That's awesome! According to my mom, kids that crawl early and walk late tend to read better, you may have a future Shakespeare on your hands! My son started getting up on his hands and knees at 5 mo., he's almost 6 now and still hasn't quite figured out the motions yet. It's so cute baby.gif My MIL said my hubby started walking at 7 mo., but he never crawled. I'm lucky, I got a good MIL, she's a sweetheart hug.gif Keep us up to date on your little one so we can all celebrate together djdance.gif

redchief replied:
Sometimes I think grandparents can be more competitive than parents. SHEESH! Sounds like your baby's right on target to me smile.gif

Tamatha replied:
Actually, there have been studies done about crawling and how this develops a child's brain. Children should always be encouraged to crawl as much as they want, even after they are able to walk, as this helps to foster good coordination in all things, not just reading. I learned about this in the context of teaching piano--children who didn't crawl much have a harder time with hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills than children who crawled for a while. I intend to encourage Trey to crawl as much as he wants!! smile.gif
