I was bad - I Punk'd a friend

redchief wrote: On Saturday we were at fire school teaching the new kids how to use ground ladders. We had plenty of instructors, but were short a safety officer, a position I'm qualified to hold, but rarely do because, well let's just say I have a reputation not conducive to the position of safety officer.

Anyway, our lead safety officer of the day spoke with one of the Firefighter 1 coordinators with concerns about my ability to run safety, especially considering the two instructors who would be manning the station (one is my lieutenant, and the other her husband, both of which have a bit of a reputation of being a little crazy). Certainly that information would be kept in confidence, right? Well, I don't think she realized that I'm senior to both of the coordinators or that they would come directly to me with her concerns. So I decided that if she was concerned about my ability to run a safety program at a fire school station, then I'd validate those concerns.

We gathered together the students who would be in the station and advised them of the plan, then we went to work. I had my son, the two instructors, and one of the coordinators take a life sized dummy we use in rescue training into the simulation building prior to the lead safety coming outside, then we dressed the dummy up to look just like one of the recruit firefighters. In the station the students were required to make rescues utilizing ground ladders against a building. So we set it up and waited for the lead safety to arrive. She did, perfectly, talking with one of the EMT's assigned to the school for the day, thereby keeping her focus somewhat from what was going on (and she didn't trust ME? - the EMT was innocent and knew nothing). We went about instructing the students on removal of an unconscious victim from a second floor window, and I took over heeling (holding safely) the ladder. On my order, I had the instructors (including one of the coordinators she'd spoken with earlier) drop the rescue dummy out the window headfirst, to the gasps and "surprised" cries of all around the station. The lead safety was about 30 feet away and saw the entire thing, only she thought the dummy was a real person. The practical joke pulled off PERFECTLY.

The lead safety was totally had. She was so scared she couldn't move, and couldn't even recover enough to move after she realized that I'd gotten her. She was so shaken up that she had to sit on the asphalt right where she stood. I went over to her after containing my understandable mirth and asked her if she was okay. She pointed to me and said with a shaky finger, "YOU DID THIS!"

I asked her how she could blame me for such a thing, and she said venomously, "Because they're (pointing at the others who were still trying to get themselves under control) not smart enough to pull it off."

She has promised to get even. *yawn*

redchief replied:
I would never cry foul at a well placed practical joke, even if perpetrated upon my own person. If you can't take it, you should never ever dish it out. Firehouses are among the worst practical joke factories in the country, anyway. So you need to have thick skin to just walk in the door let alone spend 25 years in one. wink.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied:
