I just had a scare, no sleep for me tonight!

MommyToAshley wrote: Ashley's Angel care monitor went off. It sounds a warning alarm if no breathing is detected for 15 seconds and then another alarm goes off --beep beep beep, etc --- if no breathing is detected for 20 seconds. We've never really had a false alarm before, so this really scared me. When Ashley was only about 10 weeks old, she was in a corner of her crib and the alarm went off -- but we think it was because she was so small and in the corner. But, she is 10 months old now, and we had never had another alarm go off until tonight. DH and I both jumped out of bed and ran in there. She wasn't in the corner, but she jumped up when we ran in there so I am not sure if her face was down in the matress or she just stopped breathing. Maybe the alarm just didn't pick up her breathing, but it has never done that before! My heart is pounding, I will be scared to go to sleep now.

maestra replied: Hope you all were able to get some sleep and that it was j ust a false alarm!

MomToMany replied: ohmy.gif Wow! That would've scared me too! I really hope it was a false alarm. Lots of grouphug.gif for you guys!

Kaitlin'smom replied: ohmy.gif I hope it was a false alarm, and at least one of you slept. grouphug.gif grouphug.gif

So how are you this morning?

TLCDad replied: I did not go to sleep yet. ;( I've been staying up lately anyhow, but when the alarm went off, I became very wide awake as you can imagine. blink.gif

I still am worried why the alarm went off. When we ran in there she jumped up but was towards the corner, so she might of been in a soft sleep and since she was at the edge of the grib and the monitor did not pick the movement up...I sure hope so. I did notice the monitor pad was a little bit off center under the mattress. It might of slightly moved the last time the sheet was changed. I'm still very worried though. I do not know if she woke up cause we ran in there or woke herself up because she could not breath.

I'm glad we purchased the monitor. Its manual says although its factory setting should be correct, there may be false alarms and you can adjust the sensativity.

ediep replied: I'm sure it was a false alarm. Ashley is a very healthy active baby. I doubt if she would just stop breathing for no reason. She was probabaly just in a light sleep and breathing shallow or like you said, maybe the pad was off center. Don't panic...relax

Mommieto2Girls replied: OMG, I can't imagine that happening, thank god everything is ok and she jumped up. I hope you guys can get some sleep tonight. grouphug.gif If neither one of you can go to sleep , maybe you can take shifts and try to sleep that way till you guys are able to sleep regular again.

Kaitlin'smom replied: sounds like a fasle alarm, so dont worry ( I know easier said than done) I hope you can sleep soon, and like M2M said take turns if you have to until you both can sleep some what normal again! Big hugs to you! grouphug.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
Tired. But, thanks for asking. I think it was just a false alarm. She seems fine today. We have had the power flicker a few times and the alarm will beep when that happens (it needs a new battery so it is plugged in), so maybe the power flickered or something. I am still watching her closely when she naps/sleeps though.

I am still glad we got the monitor though. Like I said, we haven't had any false alarms (except the one at 10 wks). And, I was/am so paranoid of SIDS. Without the alarm, I wouldn't be able to sleep. I know that the chance of SIDS is greatly reduced at 4 months, but I just read a story about a 16 month old that died of SIDS. (Except they call it SUDS(?) when they are older)

Kirstenmumof3 replied: grouphug.gif OMG how awful for you! Glad she was okay! grouphug.gif

catou_98 replied: I know what you mean, we also have this monitor and I don't think I would be able to sleep if we didn't have it, It did however beep a couple time when she was youger, it would scare the crap out of both me and s/o. Our familly doctor told us that when they are that young that it sometimes happens that they "forget" they have to breathe! huh.gif lately it beep when she's far off in a corner of the crib and it can't detect her movements, I'm sure it was all that happened with ashley but I still wanted to offer you both a big hug grouphug.gif as i've BTDT with that alarm!

P.S. I recommend to everyone that has a baby to buy this monitor, it is expensive but TRULY worth every penny!

MommyToAshley replied:

I second that recommendation! Definately worth every penny.

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
I definitely third that. I have one as well. Zach sleeps on his tummy - has always REFUSED to sleep on his back (just like me) so it's nice to know that I can at least get SOME sleep knowing I'll be woken up by an alarm if something goes wrong. I'm sure it was a false alarm.
