I have a couple questions..

Calimama wrote: What age did you start working on your kids to use a real cup rather than a sippy? How did you do it? And what age were they off the sippy altogether?

I've been trying to teach Miabella but it always ends with her just dipping her fingers in and licking the water off rather than trying to drink it the proper way. tongue.gif

stella6979 replied: We started the transition shortly after her 2nd birthday. She spilled a lot in the beginning, but she's much better at it now and will not even take a sippy (unless we're in the car or out for a walk). Try using water bottles that way she can't stick her hands in it. thumb.gif

bawoodsmall replied: Em was about 13 months and Aiden about 18 months. They did reallywell..they sometimes would spill at the table reaching and stuff.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Brooke was about 18 months and Madison started around 13 month - she wanted to be just like big sister Brooke so she made the transition much earlier and quicker.

Calimama replied: Man Miabella is slacking. rolling_smile.gif

Just kidding!! Thanks ladies! wub.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied:
If it makes you feels better, my MIL made them use sippy cups at her house until they were almost 3. emlaugh.gif She has a hardwood floor and FIL is very particular about spills.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: My mil makes the boys use sippy cups still and they are 4 and almost 6!!
Alex was 2-3 when he stopped having a sippy at home. Maybe just do a big girl cup at meal time and work on it from there.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I think KAty was probably 2-3, MAtt 18 months-2, Johnny 15-18 months. We just threw away the last sippy yesterday. We still ahve water bottles for the car or something but at home it is all regular cups.

A&A'smommy replied: blush.gif blush.gif early on BUT she still uses a sippy she is SO clumsy so she spills her sippy all the time and it cuts back on mess

Brias3 replied:
Here too blush.gif Mason is four and still uses it around the house with juice, milk, etc. He can totally use a big boy cup, it just cuts down on the messes! However, I started offering a sippy when they began to transfer off of formula- right around the year mark or so.

MommyToAshley replied: Ashley could drink out of regular cups about 18 months, but we used sippy cups for a long time for the same reason as stated above... to cut down on the mess. However, her dentist told us to switch to the sippys with a straw instead because prolonged use of a sippy cup is not good for their teeth.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Tanner was about 2.5 I think. After that he used a regular cup when he would eat at the table. If it was around the house or on trips, etc...we used the sports sippers.

luvbug00 replied: Mya was 15 to 16 months. and she still uses a sippy cup at bedtime and she's 8..I spoil her blush.gif

mommymommy replied: HA, I tried this with Cate once, and instead of bringing the cup to her lips, she poured it over her head! We are going to wait awhile!!
She's 18 months old!

Kaitlin'smom replied: hummm she could use one when she was around 12 months (not very well) but by 18 months no problem but I kept her on sippy for a while cause of spills, now we use both reg cups and straw cups.
