I give up
PrairieMom wrote: We just got 7 inches of snow. My tulips are never going to survive this, and my lilacs were just getting leaves, those will be stunted. My Peonies probably won't make it either. I give up. Spring is never going to happen.
amymom replied: I know what you are talking about!!! They are predicting that for here tonight. Ugh! I was excited it got up to 42 degrees (F) today!!!! Now I come home to hear this news!!!
lovemy2 replied: ouch...we had snow on Easter and it is supposed to be a rain/snow mix the next few days hopefully it will only be rain.......
Momof3inMe replied: We are going to get 4-8 inches of snow tomorrow into Friday. I dont think we will ever see green grass!!!
Miranda1127 replied: hey i hear you. i'm a little affraid to plant my stock, so they are just occuping the kitchen table until sprin finally decides to pay a visit
sparkys2boys replied: Im right there with you. We had the worst storm of the year on easter day and they are now calling for another one on fri of this week. Bleck.. who ordered snow this time of the year??
luvmykids replied: I hope the snow we got last week was the end of it. If it's any consolation my tulips completely wilted in it but suprisingly bounced right back
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I feel the same way. It started snowing on Tuesday afternoon and didn't quit until last night. We didn't get 7 inches of accumulation though because it started out warm and was melting right away. I'd say we only have one or two inches actually on the ground. It still sucks though.
There is one good thing about this snow though ~ it probably killed all the mosquitoes that had already hatched.
PrairieMom replied: I hope mine do the same. I worked so hard saving them from the bunnies, it would be so sad to see them not make it. On the up side, I have been telling Ben that his birthday will come after the flowers come, so I haven't been bugged about his party yet.
cameragirl21 replied: Tara, the tulips will be fine, the bulbs are designed to survive a frost. Even if the little seedlings don't make it the bulb will automatically produce another one once it warms up. i'm sure your tulips will be beautiful. i love tulips but we don't have them here because they need a frost and we don't get one. some people put the bulbs in the freezer and then dig them up each fall and put them in the freezer but idk if i want them THAT bad although i may try it this fall....
TheOaf66 replied: same here Tara, we sympathize
PrairieMom replied: Ugh they are such a PITA to dig up and plant. I found these bulb baskets from One of those seed catalog's tho, and they are pretty handy. They are plastic baskets (with out tops) that you can dig a large hole, put the basket in, add a little dirt, add the bulbs, then bury the whole thing. That way the bunnies can't get at your bulbs, and they are easier to dig up, because instead of having to fine the individual bulbs, you only have to find the basket.
I hope my tulips survive. I haven't had good luck with them in the past.
