I feel like Mckaylee's school is nickle and - diming me to death

mckayleesmom wrote: They need to chill out...They keep planning so much stuff that costs money all at the same time.

This month alone we have

Fundraisers to turn in
Picture day tomorow
Snack fee due
Book fair
Fall festival
PTO dinner tonight that is $6 per person and they want us to donate pop.

And other stuff on the calender too.

I can't imagine what it will be like next year... laugh.gif

stella6979 replied: Ugh! I'm really dreading the day Avery starts school. I mean, I totally understand having to pitch in, but what if some people can't afford too? sad.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
Thats the thing too...Mckaylee's school is one of the ones that has the most poor students in this area. Half of Mckaylee's school list was optional because most of the people in that area can't afford it. I was the only person that bought everything according to the teacher.

We are not poor, but we are not rich either. It just seems like they would make a little more if they spaced this stuff out a little bit.

mckayleesmom replied: Oh..I forgot...their book fair is the same day as the fall festival.

mckayleesmom replied: I think next year I will set up a seperate account to just deposit money in to cover all this stuff for next year... rolling_smile.gif

stella6979 replied:
LOL! My SIL said the same exact thing about a week ago. biggrin.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied: Oh I know what you are talking about and its only the first year!!
Between lunch money, book fair, fund raiser and we get two book orders a month!!

luvmykids replied: It's not just her school laugh.gif They all do that wacko.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
I agree... they all do that.

However, most items are not mandatory. For example, we do the book fair but we don't buy from every scholastic book order that comes home. We usually save for the promotions when the school gets double the books for any books sold.

For the snack fee, can you save money by sending her snack in instead of buyign it from the school? Same with lunches.

As for pictures, you could still have her pictures taken for the class photo, but maybe you could take her someplace more reasonable to purchase photos. I think someone on here said that they do that.

It does seem like it is one fund-raiser after another. It's hard not to participate though because they are always for such good causes. The fundraisers at Ashley's school usually benefit a charity rather than the school and the charities all seem so worthwhile. I can never say no, and usually just end up buying it myself, but it's also hard to afford it all.

luvbug00 replied: That is alot if stuff. how crazy is school wacko.gif

jem0622 replied: You can pick and choose on them. Do not feel like you must do it all. HUGS.

Kaitlin'smom replied: like others said pick and choose what you buy for, we opted not to buy or sell this fundraiser, partly casue what she woudl earn was lame and second I did not have time to mess with it. She did find a book in the scolastic form she wants I am not sure if I can buy it for her or not. She does take her box tops in and they have an individual contest as well as a class contest so we are working on saving thoses.

MommyToAshley replied:
I can save ours for you... Ashley's class isn't doing box tops this year. I am not sure why, but they may have maxed out the contribution from them already.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: ohmy.gif Wow that is a lot! We do the fundraising and support Scolastic Books when the forms come home from the school. But having to pay $6.00 and donate pop, what do they think you're made out of money!

MoonMama replied: Geez thats crazy! wacko.gif wacko.gif
