How much do you pay - for cable???

mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: I know that you all must have different cable packages...but we typically just get the most basic cable because DH and I don't watch much TV. We just moved to this town about seven months ago and there is only one cable company, so you don't really have a choice between prices. Our basic is around $45 though!!! We only paid about $15 or so in our last city (Denver)! So I called last week to change it and they said that the "basic, basic", the next step down, is only $17. WTF?? How do you go from $45 to $17??? And why didn't anyone tell me about the basic, basic when I set it up in the first place??? So now we only have channels 1-25 and yet I'm getting less than I did in Denver, but still paying more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! new_tomato.gif

And of course they wanted to charge me $25 to send someone out to our house to change it! I said NO WAY, and she waived it.

kimberley replied: basic cable here is about $45 growl.gif i could go with a lower plan (about $25) but then i lose all the cartoon channels and learning and discovery channel.

Sunflower04 replied: I have Direct TV and I get all the channels minus the movie channels for about $55.00 and that includes the monthly Tivo charge of $3.99. I love Direct Tv and I can't see myself using cable again.

maestra replied:
We had direct tv in our old townhouse, and then we moved to an apartment, and since our balcony faces north, we can't get it. We have to get cable through our phone company, which is not as good as direct tv was. I think we pay about 45, but don't get as many channels as we used to get with direct tv. bawling.gif

mckayleesmom replied: We pay 45 right now....plus 7 dollars for an extra box that will get here next week. I love my cable. Im going to add a couple packages here soon though...I want Fit tv. We use to have direct tv and it was ok, but we spent more money on not getting to watch it, because if it snowed or rained...it would freeze up. So wasn't worth it.

stanleygirl replied: We pay about 50 (Canadian) and we dont even get that many channels! growl.gif

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: We have dish network and we have top 100 channels and hbo and cinemax and we pay $59.99 a month.

mommy_loves_chase replied: well me and my B/F have digital through comcast with Stz and then my b/F of corse has to have the speed channel which is like 5$ more a month but comes with like the lifetime movie network, but thats 39$ and then we have our cable modem which is 20 a month so we pay about with taxes 70-75 a month which isn't too bad cause we do watch a lot of tv, your paying a lot for just basic but being that it's the only cable company i guess they think they can rip people off cause they have no choice!! there is no way to get like direct tv or anything like that out there? bigthink.gif

My2Beauties replied: We have the digital cable - we get like 200 channels, plus the cable modem (internet) plus a phoneline all for $90 - they are robbing you people where you live! mad.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: gosh I dunno I would have to break it out, we have digital with DVR an extra box, road runner (high speed internet) and a couple movie channels (had no clue we had them till the other day) so i dunno how much it is for just the cable I will look when I get my next bill

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: We have direct tv and TIVO. My husband is a football nut, so we have the NFL package which raises our monthly payment for 4 months of the year. But normally we pay $45/month. We bought TIVO separately, but I think it is worthwhile because I am no longer a football widow. He can watch a game in half the time and I still get to see him on Sundays. Lifesaver!

kit_kats_mom replied: Well, I have sattelite and with DH's football package we pay about 75/mo plus the 200/year for the football package.
As for cable,
ok. here's the scoop and I found this out totally by accident a long time ago.
When you get basic cable, you get most channels like cnn, local channels, mtv etc. When you change to basic basic, the cable company gives you a box for you tv (at least they used too). you hook the box to the cable and the tv and then you get local channels only. buuuuut, if you take the box out of the equation, you still get al of the basic cable stuff. The box is a blocker and it keeps the channels that are on the cable line from hitting your tv. Pretty dumb IMO.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Hmmmm they came by yesterday to change my basic to basic, basic and I didn't get a box. I liked it when I got MTV! And it's not that I need all the bells and whistles...DH doesn't watch sports. But the price just boggles my mind. I don't think I'm that cheap, but $45 a month adds up, especially when half of the channels are crap! Now I'm paying $17 for ALL crap...what's the point? I should just get rid of TV all together. Probably better for us anyway!

I at least get TBS...so I watched Sex & The City reruns last night...woohooo!

A&A'smommy replied: We don't have cable anymore we have dishnetwork which is costing us 70 dollars a month for 180 channels PLUS the wb channels (which are 11 dollars) and then we are paying a little extra (only for a couple of months) for insurance so when our waranty runs out (in a month or so) we wont have to pay 100 dollars to get it fixed... AND we have dvr which that is 5.99 for 6months I can't remember why though and then we usually buy at least one movie from pay per view (which we record on our dvr and KEEP it lol) anyway I LOVE it we have a all our favorite channels PLUE some we have all the cartoon channels noggin, all the disney channels nickolodean PLUS boomerang (OLD cartoons from when we were kids) VERY nice when you have two kids in the house (dh and ALyssa) emlaugh.gif

When we had cable we had like 40 channels for 38 bucks most of them were crappy channels and some of them didn't even come in right half of the time that is why we switched to dish... I TOTALLY reccamend looking into some sort of dish company and finding what YOU like for YOUR price!!! thumb.gif

redchief replied: Dish Network, w/Starz and HBO. About $62.00 a month.

~KARA~ replied: I have direct tv with over 300 channels and pay 60$ a month. I also pay for the local channels, 1 extra box and ins on the boxes.
