How do you make - your perfect cup of coffee at home?

mammag wrote: Since I gave up soda, I've now taken up coffee. I have one cup in the morning to get me going. However, I found that I really don't know how to make a good cup of coffee. I just wing it everyday and never know what I'm going to end up with.

Right now I'm finishing up a jar of instant that my mom left but then I'm going to buy some good stuff. I have one of those coffee makers where you can make 1 or 2 cups because I'm the only one drinking it so there is no reason to make a pot. So....what kind do you use? How much per 8ozs? Sugar? How much? Cream? What Kind? How Much?

I want to know all the details of your perfect cup of home coffee.

I like my coffee a little on the strong side. I grind my own. I usually use Eight O'Clock Bokar (black bag) beans. I get another one at BJ's but I can't for the life of me remember the name of it. It's a Columbian blend though.

I find that one full tablespoon to each two cups is usually about right. You may need to strengthen it up a bit for a smaller pot, but that will give you a good place to start. Good luck!

Bee_Kay replied: I LOVE LOVE LOVE coffee in the am.

I, also like it a bit stronger. Add 2 cubes of sugar a little french vanilla creamer (sometimes a bit of milk to cool it down) and there ya go! perfect coffee!

luvbug00 replied: I don't drink it becuase it will stunt my growth and at 4 11 I really can't afford to be any shorter! emlaugh.gif

My parents however do like Ed 1 TBSP for every 2 cups. and they add a slash of milk, ( they don't use sugar. )

Bee_Kay replied: Oh yeah...... I agree with Ed.... instant coffee is yucky.

TheOaf66 replied: well I use a MR Coffee maker, usually just Folgers or Maxwell House 3 Spoonfulls of grounds in the filter, I make a whole pot at a time (10 cups) I used to have my coffee with 2 spoons of sugar or 5 cubes but I am trying to cut back so I started just drinking it black, if I need a big kick I do throw some sugar in there though.

luvmykids replied: I use a measuring spoon for coffee, I think it's about a tablespoon, but I like it strong and use one scoop for each cup according to the pot. If I fill it to the 4 cup line, I use 4 scoops. And I drink it black.

ashtonsmama replied: I don't---I go to Starbucks.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: My fave is Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla Ice Coffee with Extra cream and Extra sugar yummy.gif

At home I use Maxwell House coffee and two teaspoons of sugar and a couple splashes of flavored creamer. Right now we have cream brulee and its yum!

As for measuring the coffee grounds we hve a coffee measuring scoop and i do 6 scoops of grounds and 12 cups of water.

Ashlynn's Mommy replied: You don't want to know my coffee recipe. If you drink my coffee it will make every hair on your body stand up. rolling_smile.gif wavey.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: OOO, I'm a coffee snob!

I ONLY drink Community Coffee (local company). I too use 1 tablespoon grounds per 2 cups of water. Then I use ONLY Splenda to sweeten, about 3 packs for 8 oz of coffee....and then 2 teaspoons Coffeemate creamer, flavored usually. I switch between Hazelnut and French Vanilla. And lately I've been using 2 heaping teaspoons of Coffeemate Latte Creations, Vanilla! I know, it sounds like a lot but it's soo YUMMY!!!

I wish I could have a cup right now, but it's 7:30pm...I'll never sleep if I do!

CantWait replied: I'm really not much of a coffee drinker, but when I do, it's got to be Tim Horton's.

me too! laugh.gif
Actually, I get the instant coffee that comes in bags like tea. Then I use a bunch of creamer, the flavored kind, chocolate caramel is my favorite. That is, if I can't go to starbucks.

Cece00 replied:
I'm with you on the CC!!!! It is good!!

We rarely make coffee @ home. I would never drink more than a cup, IF that...but I do love to get it while I am out of the house.

salmndr007 replied: Well, since you are asking about milk and sugar, I wouldn't be the one to ask about this topic...my coffee drink of choice in the summer is 4 shots of espresso over ice....and that is it...I like my coffee very strong, but then again I have been drinking it since I was practically born (I swear my mom used to put it in my bottle when I was a baby!) emlaugh.gif

redchief replied:
Pssst.... I"m pretty sure you're as tall as you're gonna get. laugh.gif

redchief replied:
I have a European expresso pot. When I want a quick jolt, or I'm just in the mood, I make that. That's one scoop to 1/2 cup of water (close conversion). I drink that black and hot. For regular coffee I usually I put in a tsp of sugar (quit using no-cals this year) and a little (tiny bit, almost why do you bother) amount of milk. I'll also drink it black.

I remembered the name of the coffee we get from BJs... I know it's Millstone and I think it's called Columbian supreme blend or something like that.

Speaking of which, I have to go put on a pot.

Hee hee! my hubby got me two cans of Tim's coffee our first Christmas as a couple. rolleyes.gif

Mine's an extra large Double Double.

Other than that... any instant will do... about 1 rounded teaspoon of coffee, one flat teaspoon of sugar... and enough milk to turn the cofee the color of a cardboard box. I'm not that picky though... so if I'm oiff, I'm off...i'll still drink it.

mom21kid2dogs replied: I'm the only person in my house who drinks it, too. I used to brew it but I hated throwing away the bigger part of a pot of coffee every day~it was wasteful even when coffee was cheap. I had a European Expresso pot, too, but I'm a weenie coffee drinker and not in need of coffee that puts hair on my chest. Plus I could never get it not to taste bitter no matter what I tried.

I visited one of my bestest childhood friends about 10 years ago in Minneapolis and found her coffee to be incredible. Her secret~a Coffee Toddy. It's cold pressing coffee. You let a pound of coffee set overnight in 8 C of cold water, strain it and you have coffee for the month in the form of a coffee concentrate. You can make you coffee as strong or weak as you like, use as much as you want with no waste. The only downside is once you go to this, you'll really hate the taste of all brewed coffee. (Although I've found if you put enough carmel syrup in it~any coffee can taste good~LOL!! tongue.gif )

Here's a link to it~I highly recommend it!!
