Home for a Week!

Kirstenmumof3 wrote: groupwave.gif We just arrived in Thunder Bay. And I am so happy to be home. Claudia did well with her procedure, but had a reaction to the ativan that they gave her during the removal of the femoral line. She was discharged Thursday at 6:30 and then at 10:00 I took her back to the hospital. She couldn't sit, stand or walk and she was hallucinating and seeing double. My poor girl. Then she started throwing up. She was admitted back too the hospital at 2 in the morning on Friday. We were supposed to fly home at 9:00. So DH had to cancel our flights. Claudia was kept in hospital until Saturday for observation.

So much to do this week. I wish it were more time. Spencer and I will be flying out Sunday afternoon. He's in for a rough time, but he is strong and I know he will get through this.

I am hoping to go out and see my sister today and meet my new nephew. groupwave.gif

CAMSMOM1 replied: Kirsten~ I'm glad the procedure went well with Claudia, I just wish she didn't have to suffer afterwards. That was a brave thing for her to do for her brother. wub.gif I pray that the transplant goes well for Spencer. I know that he will be fine, and he is going to make a full recovery. thumb.gif You guys have been through so much, and I hope that will continue to have strength and peace during this time.
Give Spencer & Claudia lots of hugs & kisses from us. They are in our prayers.
And congrats on your new nephew! baby.gif

dry.gif We found out on Friday that we finally were accepted, but because I was flying back to Thunder Bay they wouldn't hold the room for me. So now I have to be put on the waiting list again. blink.gif It's just crazy! The social worker that we have been working with is going to call them on Monday and see what she can do. If I don't get into Ronald McDonald House than I will probably end up staying at an old Nurses Residence accross from the hospital or they will put me up in a Hotel. If I end up at the Nurses Residence I would have to share a kitchen and bathroom with other families. At least at the Ronald McDonald house I would only share the kitchen and would have my own bathroom. As for the Hotel, we were put there when DH and the kids arrived and let me tell you after a week and a half of fast food and muffins for breakfast we were all pretty sick. sad.gif So I would prefer to stay somewhere were I could cook my own food.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: wub.gif As a reward for Claudia's bravery the Child Life Specialist on the unit gave her a surprise. She recieved a certificate signed by the doctor, social worker and Child Life Speacialist. She got a medal and a gift. The gift was a Dora dancing doll, a Dora little cosmetic bag with a Dora comb, mirror and some pink and white elastics for her hair and a Dora colouring and painting book. She was so thrilled. Then when she was discharged on Saturday the nurses gave her a knitted doll and a blanket. When she had to have needles they gave her stickers and put Dora bandaids on her boo boos. She is just so cute. One of the nurses also gave her a Wiggles colouring book, a little stuffed black and white pig and a Whoo Hoo star from Dora. They really spoiled her. Emily also recieved a gift for being such a great big sister. She got a hemp jewelary making kit and a white stuffed cat. The Child Life Specialist from Marnies Lounge gave both of the girls stuffed bears. Everyone has been so nice to Spencer and his sisters. wub.gif

They sure know how to make kids feel special! love2.gif Hope things go well with Spencer's BM transplant. Are they doing it next week then?

Enjoy your short stint home and meeting your new nephew. Get some rest for the journey ahead. We are praying here . . . hug.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied:
He starts chemo therapy next week and then once all of his white blood cells are gone they will do the transplant. At which point he will be put in isolation until his bone marrow starts to produce the white blood cells again.
