Hitting self? - Is she a wierdo?

kit_kats_mom wrote: Katherine has been smacking herself on the head and in the face when she gets frusterated. She's also head butting.

A typical scene is this: I'll pull her off the breast when she is done bf'ding and just pacifying herself (or anything else that makes her angry), then she will smack herself in the head a few times while saying "no" over and over, if I pick her up, she will bash her head into my shoulder once or twice.

She started doing it with regularity when we returned home from our vacation last Saturday so it's been almost a week.

Is this normal? Could she maybe have a headache or something from the teething? I dunno what to think about this..it just seems so queer to me.

aspenblue1 replied: Isabella does this all the time when she gets mad. She has now started punching herself. She will throw herself on the floor and start banging her head on the floor also.

paradisemommy replied: completely normal..taven does this too but not as much as before..probably just a phase!!! rolling_smile.gif

maliksmommy replied: SOunds like Malik:) I wouldn't worry about it too much. Sounds normal to me and just a phase.

DansMom replied: Daniel is similar---he will bang his head on the floor when he's frustrated, and he will bite his own hand when he's really mad at me (like when I say no to something he wants). It worries me, because I don't want him to grow up internalizing his anger. I'd almost rather he hit me, but apparently it doesn't occur to him.

MommyToAshley replied: Ashley would slap her cheeks or pinch them when she was teething, but since Kat is doing this when she is mad, I don't think it is teething.

I have however read that the behavior you described is normal and some toddlers do this. Ashley doesn't hit herself, but sometimes she will throw herself backwards when she is mad. Her latest thing is to stomp her feet.

As the others have said, I wouldn't worry about it.

alice&arik replied: When Arik is tired and won't deesn't want to go to sleep, he will pinch his cheek and poke himself in the eye. He does it at daycare mostly and in the car. Like he thinks he is going to miss something! wacko.gif wacko.gif

MomToMany replied: Sounds normal to me! Ethan (4) still does this, but mostly for Hannah's entertainment (she laughs histerically when he does this). Hannah likes banging her head on the wall or the floor, but she doesn't do it when she's mad. She does it whenever the urge strikes her rolleyes.gif .

kimberley replied: i think it is just a phase they go through. james did this for a looooong time but jacob stopped pretty soon after he started. it is hard not to laugh when they are angry.. it is just too funny sometimes. rolling_smile.gif

ediep replied: sounds like a temper tantrum!! I'm sure its a phase, sure hope it passes quickly!

A&A'smommy replied: lol im sorry that just sounds so cute..maybe not so much fun but i can just amagin her doing that...anyways sorry im not any help...i havent been there yet... ohmy.gif

Schnoogly replied: Nope, Iain has been doing that for months. He whacks himself all the time, but especially when he's trying to keep himself awake.

They're little weirdos aren't they?

BTW I LOVE the new avatar...the flyaway hair just fits her personality doesn't it??

kit_kats_mom replied:
rolling_smile.gif Thanks. Yup, that child has one heck of a cowlick. Is is still called a cowlick when it covers half of your head? Lord knows I hope that changes before she is a teen. I can hear the griping now "Moooooom! make it lie flat!" LOL

coasterqueen replied: Katherine, Kylie has a horrible cowlick too! Guess that's how it's spelled, lol.

Kylie also hits herself when she is angry, frustrated, whatever the mood is and unfortunately she might take a wack at us too sad.gif I think it's a phase that will go away soon, I hope wink.gif
