Harry Potter - has anyone seen it yet?

Farelle wrote: Just curious if anyone has seen the new Harry Potter movie yet? The review I read was not very favorable. They said it was very dark and gloomy. I think it looks great and can't wait to see it this weekend. And I CAN'T wait for the last book to come out!!!!!

Calimama replied: Nope, there's already another book out? What number 500? tongue.gif I used to like them a lot, but then lost track. The last one I read was like 4? Maybe 5? Maybe 3? ... It's been awhile. emlaugh.gif

Farelle replied: Yeah...you're a little behind! tongue.gif The last book is...7, I think. I can't wait to see how it ends, it better be good!! Of course I'll just have to find time to read it....guess I'll have to spend less time online ohmy.gif

Calimama replied:
Wow 7!?? I really missed the boat. So which movie is coming out?

Mommy2Isabella replied: Harry Potter isn't my thing. Im not much into crazy kids flying around on brooms and performing magic tricks ...

One mans fear is another mans pleasure ... smile.gif

Farelle replied:

The Order of the Phoenix. TO be honest though, I can't even remember what it's about!! tongue.gif Guess I'll find out this weekend!

Bamamom replied: Spoilers

The Order of the Phoenix is the one where they form the order of the phoenix as the secret organization to try to defeat Voldemort. It meets in Sirius's house.

The book coming out on the 21st is the 7th and last book.

Man I feel like such a dork.....

grapfruit replied:
LoL! I love Harry Potter!

I think the movie looks great. And I would expect it to be dark and gloomy, anybody that has read the book will be able to tell you. The BOOK is very dark and gloomy. They're preparing for a fight, and it's not going to be pretty.

IMO, whether or not you like the books, you have to almost give them a little respect. They've made a generation of kids that had been turning their noses up at books WANT to read. That's amazing. I think anytime a child will beg you for a book, it's a good thing (ha! That sounded like Martha Stewart in my head...the last part about a good thing) tongue.gif .

Bamamom replied:
True - and we're not talking 100 page books here. They are massive reads for 10/11/12 year old kids.

grapfruit replied: Exactally!

Of course I never had that problem as a kid. Take books away was how my mom grounded me dry.gif meanie. emlaugh.gif

I think there's so much emphasis on trying to past standardized test now, that there's no time to try and help instil that love of reading sleep.gif I remember in 3rd grade we had a teacher that had a bright yellow (w/different colored handprints) bath tub filled w/pillows in his class room. And a big green barber chair. The only way to be allowed to sit in it was if you were reading. Of course EVERYONE wanted to sit in it, so we grabbed a book. happy.gif

Bamamom replied:
That's awesome! I used to make a tent and read under it - with my flashlight of course - for hours.

Calimama replied:
I still have to do that to get privacy to read... well just under the covers, but still. happy.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: We saw it at the midnight show. The older two were with my parents and dh's had no problem being here with Johnny (as we are currently living with them) as he was asleep so they didn't have to do anything. It was realllllllly good. A lot that was left out from teh book but flowed well not like a couple of the others where it seemed like they ruined the book.

I am an avid reader and the Harry Potters are one of my favorites. I have read them all at least once and listened to them on the book on tape at least once but probably twice each. They are great stories and every time I read or listen again I 'hear' more that I had missed all previous times. I have a baby sitter lined up so I can read as soon as the book gets delivered on Saturday smile.gif

MoonMama replied: DH and I went and saw the movie last night. thumb.gif We loved it. thumb.gif Not as botched as the last one. cool.gif We really enjoyed it, of course we are among those Harry Potter freaks out there. emlaugh.gif blush.gif

I also love and have read the Harry Potter books, cant wait for the next. tongue.gif

momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied:
He is a second grade teacher now and I am praying my dd gets him this year.

grapfruit replied:
We should have a HP book countdown. LoL laugh.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Dh and I are probably going to grab a matinee this weekend! I'm so excited, although I wasn't all into the last couple movies as I was the first. Same said for the books. Loved the first two and then I just sorta lost interest. But I do love the stories and like the special effects. We own them all on DVD and its fun to watch them each and every time. Its hard to get bored with them IMO!

A&A'smommy replied: nope i haven't seen it yet I can't wait though!!!!

MoonMama replied:
I agree! emlaugh.gif

HuskerMom replied: I'm going to go see it sunday. Dh refuses to take me, so I'm making my brother go with me. laugh.gif

amymom replied: We just arrived home from the movie. I am an avid book fan and have not enjoyed any of the other 4 movies very much. They all were missing something for me. However, the OOTP (although not exactly like the books ... but how could they be?), was very well done IMO. The movie included just enough of everything, was not as gloomy as the book and was fun to watch. Good entertainment.

Farelle replied: I saw it last night and I LOVED it!!!!! I wanted to sit through ti again!! I came home and immediately got out my copy of The Half Blood Prince to re-read it before the last one comes out next week!!! I can't wait.

What do you think will happen in the end?? Do you think what happened in the last book REALLY happened?? (don't want to spoil it for anyone who may not have read it but wants to) for those of you who have followed Harry Potter, you know what I am referring to!!

Anyway, it was a GREAT movie! Although there was one part that bugged me, did anyone else think that Giant looked like Ray Liotta on steroids!?!
HA LOL rolling_smile.gif

Farelle replied: ??? No one has any thoughts on how it's going to end??

luvbug00 replied: I thought it was the worst of the movies. i was almost dead of boardem. dark yes, sad, ehh but it was to much talk not enough action for me.

A&A'smommy replied: My husband and a friend of ours just went to watch it.. I'm jealous I have been wanting to see it!!!

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
OMG, this is exactly how my mom used to have to punish me. she used to just send me to my room, until she realized that all my books were in my room. I frustrated her to no end. She would have to call me to dinner 4 or 5 times before her voice got through to me.

I absolutely love the Harry Potter books. They are all about imagination and friendship. Both good concepts in my book. And honestly, who really thinks they can make the lights come on by swishing a stick and saying, "Lumos"?

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Okay, just saw it last night. I really enjoyed the story and the special effects, but yes, it was a bit too dark for me. Scary too. Totally not PG13 IMO, should be R. I was actually holding onto DH's arm at one time...scary. blush.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I'm going tonight with 3 friends from work. 7pm show so we can all get up in the morning to be here by 6am. I'm so excited.

Cece00 replied: I havent seen it. I can not stand Harry Potter, I've never read any books or seen any movies. That just isnt something that interests me AT ALL.

But I have a friend who saw it & she said it was OK.
