Hair Help

Kaitlin'smom wrote: I need some help on Kaitlins hair, its driving me crazy. Her hair is pretty long and has lost most of her curl. its getting a real bad tangle right at the back of her head, no matter what I have done or tired it still happends, and I know it hurts when I brush it out, but I just cant stand seeing it look like a pile of mess. Any suggestions as to what I can do/use to help the problem?

lesliesmom replied: When DD's hair was long we would use a detangler (actually water and conditioner). I would also put it up in a braid every night to keep it from tangling, making it easier to brush out in the morning. There is also a product that I had heard about but never used called "Mane and Tame" that is supposed to be super good for longer hair and tangles. Good luck!

lisar replied: I always braid Raygens hair before bed. It works for her and in the morning I never have a problem brushing it. If I forget to braid it then its a big problem, its tangled like no end, and it hurts her to brush it. And she has long curly hair also

Kaitlin'smom replied: so far no detangler is working for her, course I have not tried them all just some of the less expensive. I am wondering if a leave in like infusium woudl work for her.

gr33n3y3z replied: I know bedhead products are good

moped replied: try AG Conditioning mist......

Kaitlin'smom replied:
what type of braid do you do? I am willing to try this for a while.

oh you know the few times we put her hair in pllow rollers it was easy to do the next day, now I dont want to do this every night but woudl be an option

Jamison'smama replied: Jamison had long curly hair--but the length made her lose most of the curl too. She would get the same tangle (I recently cut 5 inches off). I would wash it at night. Spray the de-tangler in it when wet, brush it out, put leave in conditioner in it..several brands worked. Then I had her sleep on a satin pillow case. I think the pillow case helped a lot. In the morning I would put more of the conditioner..Just a lightweight one and pick it out with a VERY large tooth comb. It seemed to work most of the time to get through the big tangles.

Kaitlin'smom replied: she does not want to cut it off, but I have to ask did it help?

I really dont want to put so much product into her hair.

Kaitlin'smom replied:
where can I get that?

luvmykids replied:
This is what we do for Macie as well. The pillowcase is the key, anything other than satin and her hair is a rats nest that we can't brush without starting from scratch with a wash and heavy duty conditioner. The leave in I like is by Garnier, can't think of the name but I'll look.

I have braided it at night too, it works, but this routine seems a little easier for us since she hates to have her hair braided rolleyes.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: okay I have 2 of those pillow cases, guess I will have to let her try one out. I also got some deep conditiner to hopefully help also, well for me to I need it also.

coasterqueen replied: Di,

Kylie has the same problem. She finally got so tired of it that she begged me to get it cut off. So I took both, her and Megan, in and they got 4 inches cut off their hair. bawling.gif Kylie still has some "rats" but it's a lot less. I just use a pick and water to get through the tangles now.

Kaitlin'smom replied:
I figured it woudl help to cut some off be she does not want to and really neighter do I, so we are going to try the pillow case thing and a deep conditiner, my hair needs it also this time of year so I found a sample product to try on both of us.

MommyToAshley replied: Sorry, I am not much help. I don't like to use a lot of products in Ashley's hair. I still use the toddler shampoo on her hair because it is so gentle and then there's no build-up. Once in a while I will use a detangler. Maybe it's the opposite and you could try using a clarifying shampoo and then going without any products in and see if that helps -- just a thought. I know Ashley and Kaitlin have very different hair types though.

Jamison'smama replied: Cutting Jamison's hair did help but the curly hair on the underneath side is what is painful. I don't use a lot of product in her hair but I do condition the heck out of it. I started using an adult conditioner in her hair along with her kid shampoo. I also use the Dove Fly Away Tamer leave-in conditoner. It is very lightweight and you can't feel it in her hair but it makes it easier to handle and less frizzy. I think the curse of curly hair is the need for product. I think she is destined for a lifetime of expensive hair.

mom21kid2dogs replied: Best advice we got (aside from cutting a great top layer which let her keep her length but helps with the density of O's long, insanely thick, curly hair) was to use curl enhancing products rather than to fight with the curl. Best detangler for O's curly underbrush is Marc Anthony Strictly Curls Leave in conditioner. Garnier Fructis Leave In didn't do a think for O but I like it for me. We do use Garnier curl enhancing shampoo and conditioner, though. We don't braid, but O sleeps in a high pony tail every night. This keeps the underbrush under control. We, too, use a very wide tooth comb to go through it in the morning. Although we are not overbathers here, she does need to wash it every other night to keep it from knotting up. Being a person with poker straight hair, this was all news to me rolleyes.gif This girl's hair is WAY more high maintenece & expensive than mine to maintain. Brenda's right~it's the bane of curly haired girls!! thumb.gif

I think I'm going to try a satin pillow case. I can't stand satin because it's cold but she'd probably be all over it!!!

MommyToAshley replied: See, I knew I wouldn't be much help. Ashley hair is super super straight, and thick. I can't get her hair to hold any kind of curl even when we want to. It sounds like you got some great advice though.

Kaitlin'smom replied: she slept on a satin pillow case last night and she has far much less tangels today that before so I think that and some type of product will be what we need. biggrin.gif
