HCG count Question
hopefulmomtobe wrote: I just had my blood work done and they said my count was 52. She said it is because it is so early on, they want me to come back Monday to do another blood count to make sure it is doubling properly. I have not been given an actual due date yet, but have guessed by my lmp which was 9/29 that I should be 5 weeks. Is that count too low???? I am starting to get concerned...
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: We use the following guidelines in the lab where I work. Remember they are guidelines, not set in stone rules.
Week Concentration 3-4 9-130 4-5 75-2600 5-6 850-20800 6-7 4000-100200
I have the rest of the table, I just didn't post it. HTH.
hopefulmomtobe replied: Yes, thank you that does help. So, by your table...I may only be 4 weeks.
Maybe I conceived later or something....
Thank you for your help! I shouldn't worry though right???
jacobsmama replied: That is a very low numbrer but it can mean a few things. Either you are just VERY early pregnancy or the numbers are low because they are going down not up. I don't think that you are actually 5 weeks based on that number. That doesn't mean however that this isn't a normal pregnancy and that the numbers won't double and go up. Have you had a miscarriage before? why did the doctor do an HCG? Were you having problems. Hang in there!
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I would do my best not to worry and just try to make it until Monday. Hugs.
jacobsmama replied: I agree! You are probably earlier than 5 weeks but don't worry and just take it easy!
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Also, LMPs are kind of unreliable for most women due to the variation in cycle length. Unless you have a perfect 28 day cycle, your EDD will vary from your LMP.
hopefulmomtobe replied: I did have a chemical pregnancy...or so they thought, I had a very faint positive test last month, but when I went to the doctors (during my heavy af) nothing was detected. So we are unsure, but yes they are testing the HCG levels just to be on the safe side. My cycles do vary, they are not a normal 28 day cycle count...sometimes it is 30, 35. So, I could have ovulated late.
I am keeping positive because the nurse believes that it is just so early on yet.
Thanks for the support though, it really helps. I don't want to go through what I have been through with the chemical pregnancy episode.
I will let you know what the count is on Monday... and tell me what you think.
Thanks guys!!
My2Beauties replied: The first count they took of me this time around was only at 18...so 52 is much better, I was only 2 weeks hon, so I'd say you might only be 3-4 weeks at the most. HTH!
hopefulmomtobe replied: Oh goooooood to know....that makes me feel MUCH better. Thank you!!!
hopefulmomtobe replied: Just an update ( I havent updated my pregnancy ticker until the due date changes ) but I did have my second HCG count today and will get the results back tomorrow on the number, they said it should be a couple hundred. I guess they are going in such detail because of my questionable m/c and my age...although I'm only 34, pushing 35 but whatever...who counts anyway!!!
Have a great day girls!!!
boyohboyohboy replied: i have been wondering about you today, what the number was....post it tomorrow as soon as possible... prayers your way....
hopefulmomtobe replied: awww your so sweet! Ok, I will! Thanks for thinking of me! Hope all is well for you.
siblingtooolivia replied: Hang in there, I was in th EXACT same situation you are - chemical pregnancy - then two months later actually tested two days before AF was due - got a definate positive, then HCG count was like 44 or 54 or something really low like that, one week later it was in the THOUSANDS and I am now 33 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy on the way....
Hang in there, they determined for me it was just really early.....have faith....and KUP!
hopefulmomtobe replied: OH great! I love hearing the positive news like this!!! Wonderful!!! I am sooo nervous but excited at the same time. Thanks for the motovation! I will post these numbers as soon as I get them.
hopefulmomtobe replied: Ok, results are in. I first had my blood work done for the HCG count on Nov 1st and they were 52, then I had them done again yesterday (5 days later) and they were 362. They said it should double every 48-72 hours and mine have done so perfectly, more so even. So, they said that they are going to go off of my lmp which was 9/29, and it puts me at 5 1/2 weeks. They said for some women the HCG counts starts off a little slow and then jumps and that is just what mine did, so the doctor said it is perfect. SHHHEWWWWW
I was soo nervous!!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Great news! Now you can relax ~ easier said than done I know.
hopefulmomtobe replied: Yea, I think your right. Time to relax for sure. We have to move into our new house next week so I will be sure to take it easy, I will only pack boxes, not move them or lift anything. Poor hubby is going to be tired. But me and have to be safe.
((shew - just in time to get out of that!!!))) haa haa
I have three children, 14, 12, and 7 - we haven't told them yet but I think it is safe to now. They will be excited, besides, they were wondering what the extra room in the new house would be used for.
boyohboyohboy replied: Oh I am so happy for you!!!!! Now you can start planning for this wonderful little bundle.. prayer are answered.
Cece00 replied: Well, you got good news, so this is kind of pointless now, but....
The first number you get, while important, is not a tell-all. What really matters is that the 2nd number, and 3rd, etc etc are doubling properly. The first number is a concern if its VERY low but the doubling of the number is the most important part.
Congrats on rising numbers!
hopefulmomtobe replied: Thank you all, you are all so sweet and supportive! I love being part of this board!
Have a great day!
