I grew up with rabbits, and have been bugging DH to let me get for over a year now. He's been doing some research and found a wonderful breeder here. So tomorrow night we are going to go look at them. I am so excited! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif rolling_smile.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: Woohoo!!!

redchief replied:
Well, we did this:

Got an indoor cage and lined the bottom with kitty litter. We let the rabbit out frequently, but when he was young, if he went #2 on the floor we would put him into his cage. He wound up staying out longer and longer, and going into his cage to do #2, then coming back out. We'd spray deodorizer on the areas he went to the bathroom and he didn't go back to those areas.

Warning, though. He's getting old now and sometimes he forgets to "go" in his cage. Since he's so old and the pellets are relatively harmless, we kind of let him get away with it on occasion. Recently though he's been hiding in our bedroom and he's found a place he likes to pee. So despite the fact that we feel badly, we don't let him out as much as we used to, though he still gets out for a time every day. While he's out we make sure he can't get into our bedroom. Like I said, he's a punk. He's very personable and loves attention; often requiring it (he'll run under your legs and not leave you be until you give him "some lovin'").

MoonMama replied:
Thanks for the info. and how cute! wub.gif What kind of Rabbit is he? Do you have a pic by chance? wub.gif

redchief replied: Heheh... He was a science project leftover from our elementary school. His father was a full sized Flemish Giant and his mother was an English Lop-eared. The 8th grade mated the rabbits to see how many would be lop-eared and how many would have straight ears. Well, what they didn't know at the time, but I think the teacher did know, if you mate any upright eared rabbit with a lop-eared rabbit, the offspring's ears will stand up. Marley (Buster's mother) had a litter of five, of which four survived. Buster looks almost exactly like his father, but larger. He weighs around 11 pounds, considered to be very large for any kind of rabbit. He's the only one still living from the litter.

This is Buster:

MoonMama replied: Oh he is adorable thank you so much for posting that pic. I have always wanted a Flemish Giant, but have never been able to find one it Colorado. But he is a little doll. wub.gif wub.gif

Jolyn replied: Awwwwwwwwww he's cute. I'm embarrassed to say but i'm afraid of rabbits. I'm always afraid they are going to bite me. unsure.gif

gr33n3y3z replied:
He has never bit anyone so I guess were lucky
Like Ed said he is getting old and he is getting set in his old ways lol

Crystalina replied:
I love his color! We have two Flemish Giants. One male (white) and one female (black). Spongebob and Sally. I tried to housetrain Sally but she just wouldn't listen to me and she chewed the walls on my freshly painted mudroom. sad.gif Sally got herself a nice cozy cage outside next to her man. rolling_smile.gif We also have a few more. My favorite is a velveteen rabbit. His name is Ears because he has not ears. We rescued him after his owner left him all winter with no bedding. His ears got frostbite. Actually all of our rabbits have been rescued except for Sally. I will have to get some pics.

MoonMama replied:
Oh I can't wait to see pics. thumb.gif I love Flemish Giants! thumb.gif DH's initial plan (and mine if we ever got one) was to go through a rescue. But the closest he found is at lest a 3 hour drive away and as for our local animal shelter he went and looked and they all pretty much said not "not hand tame". blink.gif And I don't want to risk Braed getting bit. blush.gif Does that make me an awful person? blush.gif sad.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: Cool! How exciting! I had a bunny when I was little, his name was Fuzz Bucket.

holley79 replied: I grew up with rabbits also. i use to have a mini lop that was house broken. Now I want one. rolleyes.gif
