Gonna Try This Again - Need INFORMATION

lovemy2 wrote: I need some INFORMATION from those of you with reflux babies about the infant carrier you use/used....Dylan is miserable in his car seat - the cry is definate discomfort and sometimes downright pain....he is fine in a bouncy seat or a swing, etc. so I can only surmise that the car seat is just miserable for him. I have a Evenflo On My Way seat which I used for my DD, it is about 5 years old but not past the expiration date yet of when it is "supposed to be used" (Ichecked the date on it) but it has a very deep "seat" meaning where his butt is is deep and he appears to be very much in a V when sitting in it. So again I can only surmise that it is pushing everything up on him when he is in it...he shows definate signs on discomfort within 5 minutes of being in it no matter when I put him it - awake, asleep, 2 minutes after he eats or 2 hours - now I don't care that he doesn't sleep when we are in the car, etc. but I really want him to be comfortable in it - obviously - we have to go places in the car from time to time rolling_smile.gif

I tried to put a receiving blanket in the butt part but am worried about ruining the integrity of the seat by doing something like that - meaning I am afraid that by doing something like that it will be unsafe -

As much as I don't want to spend money on a brand new seat and bases (need one for my van, my husband's car and my mom's car) I need this poor kid to be comfortable in his seat even if I only use it for another two or three months -

SO, what type of seats do those of you with reflux babies use?????????

Thanks!

PrairieMom replied: My son was reflux-y, but his car seat didn't seem to bother him at all. I used a graco something or other. nothing fancy. Are you sure its his reflux that is bothering him? or does he just hate the seat? When Ally was about that age she would scream and scream when I put her in her seat. I figured out later that it was because she couldn't see anything because the sides were so high, and she wanted to look around. rolleyes.gif

hoosier momma replied: I don't have a reflux baby, but what about a convertible seat that goes from infant to toddler. I used this for my son instead of the carrier type. Mine seems to sit up more than the carrier type do.

lovemy2 replied:
I am not really sure to be honest, like I said I can only surmise that it is discomfort because of the way he cries and he does seem very folded up in there...could be that he is just mad he can't check things out - but even when he is in it and I am carrying it or it is in the stroller he is like that? Hmmmm

jcc64 replied: My dd wasn't a reflux infant, but she too screamed bloody murder when I put her in her carseat at your ds' age. We also had the Graco something or other with a base for each car. I realize the Britax seats are pricey, but they are known for their comfort- we wound up getting and still have the Roundabout convertible that can be used to 45lbs. There are several positions to adjust the angle of the recline- and she has always been happy in that seat. Because it was expensive, we only got one, which is a pain, and it's not the kind you can carry around with a handle like an infant seat, so not sure it's the most convenient solution, but just letting you know what worked for us. Good luck.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Tanner had a bit of reflux, but never seemed to be an issue with his car seat. It did help though to have things he could play with and touch that dangled over the seat. He was just bored. In the swing and bouncy he was always moving and there were things to occupy him so that was the big difference with him with the bouncy/swing versus the car seat.

ETA: we had a convertable car seat from Graco, not an infant carrier. With this next one we have a Graco Snug Ride.

lovemy2 replied:
He does have some things hanging and a big sister who tries to occupy him too rolling_smile.gif but she ends up giving up!!!!

The Snug Ride doesn't appear to be as much of a deep V seat, I may take him to Target and put him in one and walk around the store with it to see if he seems any better. rolling_smile.gif I suppose too if I bought it and it didn't make any difference I could return it don't you think???? I would probably know within a week or so? Can you return them??

hoosier momma replied: You can return them with a receipt and the box it came in. I had to ask this when I bought mine because at the time we had a small car and I wasn't sure it was going to fit the seat properly. I got mine from target.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Just save the reciept, the box, everything in the box, and make sure you return it within the amount of time the store allows. Unless it's Walmart...they take back anything and whenever. laugh.gif

ediep replied:
Emma doesn't have reflux but we have the graco snug ride seat and you are right....she isn't scrunched up at all in the seat. i really like that seat, her head doesn't flo forward when she falls asleep like Jasons did in the century one we had

mom21kid2dogs replied: If you live near a BRU location they will allow you to try "before you buy" with car seats. That way you can install the seats you are looking at in your car to check for ease of installation and fit and also see if your child reacts better to them, too.

I do second the opinion of others here that it is quite possibly age related. Warning: they go through it again between 12-14 mo, too! rolleyes.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: I dont know if i can be of any help...i just found out i have a reflux baby, so this is new to me...but my ped just told me today that i can use mylanta for those painful moments...is your son old enough to give just a little to, to help with that pain. i know exactly what you are talking about now.....
we just used it on jake tonight, he is 15 months, but it did work, immediately.
maybe that might help?

msoulz replied: My daughter is NOT a reflux baby, but she was a nightmare in her carseat probably until about 11 months. In those early days (0 - 4 months or so) she would just scream in the car seat when the car was moving, then calm down when it stopped, then scream again, over and over. I thought she was uncomfortable so I bought a nice cushy seat and it did not help. So I do not know if she was bored, uncomfortable, or just angry about being strapped in. She did start quickly changing for the better when we turned her car seat around at 12 months. We haven't taken any trips longer than an hour or so in a long time but she has been just fine for about 2 months now, she will fall asleep or just look around.

I realize this is not encouraging right now, but I do think with my girl it was some kind of non-physical irritation, she didn't like to be restrained, or something. It is still a mystery but fortunately she has outgrown it. I hope your boy outgrows it sooner than mine! hug.gif

coasterqueen replied: Megan is my reflux baby and she hated the car seat. Not sure if reflux had anything to do w/it or not. She screamed bloody murder in it and it's not been until the last year that she'd sit in the seat w/out screaming. I have no advice. I think a lot of it had to do with age, though, so I'm not sure how much help I am. She was in the graco snugride and then the evenflo triumph and both she screamed in.
