Georgia on my mind....Big news - DH finally did it (long, sorry)

luvmykids wrote: I don't know how many of you remember, but a few years ago DH was trying to do this golf/equestrian/residential subdivision. We came oh-so-close but the town didn't approve the zoning. He decided this was really what he wanted to pursue so we basically turned our construction company over to FIL (which blew up really bad, long story but basically we're out of business).

Anyway, DH has been relentless, just refused to give up, was not going to do anything other than build a golf course/equestrian community. It wasn't happening, I mean he's spent two solid years on this, couldn't find the right land or the right price or the right feasabilities for the area....so he and his partner decided to just try to buy a golf course. (Don't laugh, I know it sounds really out there, but it's what they were after.) It's been going on and on and on, all over the country, they looked at courses in CO, HI, FL....they came *this close* on all of them but at the last minute, something would fall through.

They finally got one thumb.gif It's in Georgia, about two hours north (I think) of ATL, and they'll also be able to do the equestrian and housing developments. Soooo...DH who has never given up (even when I threatened to leave him if he didn't just go get a normal job laugh.gif ) has finally gotten his dream project (and free golf on the side rolling_smile.gif )

We don't know how it's going to work yet, we're not going to try to decide anything about moving until the kids finish the school year but DH is leaving Friday. He'll probably be gone about a month at a time and then home for a few weeks until the summer, when we'll have a grip on how permanent this place would be for us and if it's worth moving across the country (and away from my parents bawling.gif ) or if we'll be better off trying some other kind of arrangements for the next year or two (b/c they may try to make their money on the development end of it and get out and do something else).

So, that's my exciting news. I've known about it for awhile but didn't want to say anything and have it fall through or jinx it. I'm just so proud of DH, I've been beyond frustrated with him this last year b/c of our finances and the fallout from the company that went under but he really went for it, I know I wouldn't have so I have to admire him for that.

My3LilMonkeys replied: thumb.gif Very cool!!!

CantWait replied: Good for him, it's always nice when your dreams finally come true. thumb.gif thumb.gif

Calimama replied: That's amazing!! thumb.gif

MoonMama replied: Wow that is amazing, WTG DH! thumb.gif thumb.gif

Danalana replied: Oh wow, that's awesome news! thumb.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Oh Mon that is AWESOME!!!! You guys have had a tough year. I am so proud of him for not tucking his tail between his legs and giving up!! I know how you feel, though. Scotty is the same way and it's so hard for me to see the big picture. It's hard for me to tag along and follow his dream, kwim? But, look...it paid off for you guys. thumb.gif I will pray for much success! You really really deserve it. hug.gif

sparkys2boys replied: Thats great news! I bet you are proud of him for not giving up even though I bet there have been days where you could have strangled him too! I hope that no matter what you guys decide to do it all works out for you!!

luvmykids replied: Thanks guys hug.gif Some of you know the details of the last year of he** so it was hard for me not to say anything sooner tongue.gif

A&A'smommy replied: HOW EXCITING!!!! thumb.gif Thats such a GREAT opportunity!!! thumb.gif BTW you wont be that far from me!!! tongue.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif That is such great news! I will be praying for much success for your family!

luvmykids replied: DH just told the kids....we'd been holding off until the funding was all squared away. He said "Guess what we bought?" and told them a golf course, Colt said "Uh, where are we going to put it because I'm pretty sure mom won't let you bring it in the house" rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Also meant to ask, if anyone is familiar with Cordele, GA insight is appreciated. And it's two hours from ATL but we're hoping to find a less expensive airport within the same driving distance for frequent trips back and forth for DH so if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!

Calimama replied:
Man your kids could have their own tv show, they are hilarious. emlaugh.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: thumb.gif WTG to your DH! It's really nice to see that dreams can come true!

luvmykids replied:
That is one thing that lessens the pain of possibly moving...it's within two hours of Savannah, Tallahassee, Atlanta, and Jacksonville....I have friends in all those places and people I might get to meet up with! thumb.gif

Earlier I said I thought it was north of Atlanta, but it's south, right off I-75, does that take me farther from you then?

kit_kats_mom replied: The only inexpensive airports to fly into are Atlanta and Jascksonville. Tallahassee is stupid expensive. LOL

We always drive through Cordele on our way to the in laws every year

MommyToAshley replied: Congratulations!!! I am so excited for you! I can only imagine how proud you are of your DH for not giving up. But, don't forget to pat yourself on the back. Even though you were concerned for the well-being of your kids during a difficult situation (what Mom wouldn't be), you still stood by him in the end. I am glad this dream is coming true and I wish you all lots of success and happiness. hug.gif hug.gif

bawoodsmall replied: Good for him for going after his dream. I am sure it was rough and still will be rough at times but you should be very proud of him.

Cece00 replied: Awesome!

I'm glad things are going so well for you guys!

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: That's awesome Monica, congrats to all of you!! You guys have been through a lot, so like someone else said, you really deserve this! thumb.gif I only wish he had found one in CO. wink.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: Oh, I forgot. You always know you are in cordele when you see the titan missle sticking up from the side of the highway. LOL I never could figure out why they put that there but it's been there as long as I can remember.

lovemy2 replied: That is sooo awesome Mon - I hope all the logistics work themselves out and you all make a smooth transition hug.gif hug.gif Way to Go Jeff thumb.gif

A&A'smommy replied:
HOW exciting!!!! I'm really excited for you guys!!! thumb.gif I LOVE LOVE being in the south..

Actually south is closer i think I'm exactly 4 hours from atlanta and my BIL lives about 20minutes out of atlanta and works in atlanta. I just looked it up cordele is about 5 hours away tongue.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew something would pull through for you guys! I'm so happy for y'all. Good for you for sticking it out, hard as it was!! wub.gif wub.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Oh Monica, that's AMAZING!! WTG DH! thumb.gif thumb.gif thumb.gif

coasterqueen replied: Awesome! One thing I noticed when we went to visit the IL's in Georgia recently was you saw all these really expensive fancy houses with equestrian places right in between subdivisions, etc. It's a huge thing around there from what my SIL says.

Kaitlin'smom replied: WOW congrats. Its sometimes hard obtaining your dreams, I hope it all becomes more than you both could ever have hoped for.

LOL at Colt that is to funny....mom wont let you have it in the house laugh.gif

katiesmom2002 replied: Thats very cool, i hope everything works out for your family.

jcc64 replied: Big news, Monica, congratulations!!!! If you do end up in Georgia, it seems like a nice place to live. Good luck with everything- glad things are turning around for you guys!

Mommy2Isabella replied: You would be close to me as well, we are about an hour and a half from Savannah ... smile.gif

Congrats ... some times you have to really go for your dreams no matter what it takes and things work out!! Glad it did for your DH!!

grapfruit replied: What about Birmingham AL? Do they have an airport?

grapfruit replied: Oh and I'm a retard.

Congrats! thumb.gif

So do you WANT to move or not really?

lisar replied: Good for him Thats great.

luvmykids replied:
I'm really, really torn. For the last month I've been a complete basketcase, bursting into tears everytime I see my mom b/c I don't want to be away from her and my dad....they're getting older and I'm the only child to help them. On top of that, they're the grandparents my kids are closest to (physically and emotionally) and such a HUGE part of their lives, kwim? I know it would break everyones hearts to be so far away bawling.gif

BUT, DH, the kids and I are our own family too, and we need to be together, of course seeing dad everyday outweighs the grandparents sleep.gif

I've never lived anywhere else, not b/c I didn't have the chance but b/c this is home. So we have a lot of thinking and planning to do...it's hard for me to not know right this instant what our plan is but at the same time, we wouldn't move until the kids finish the school year anyway so we made the decision to not make any decisions until then tongue.gif

I'm pretty sure we'll end up going, and I'm really hoping when the time comes for us to do it that I'll be at peace with it. Poor DH, I'm trying hard for his sake to be excited (and I am, for HIM LOL) and see this as an adventure instead of being a crybaby.

kit_kats_mom replied: pro=they don't have roadrunners in GA rolling_smile.gif

luvmykids replied:
Or rattlesnakes laugh.gif

I don't want to know what they DO have wacko.gif

Calimama replied:
Maybe your parents will want to move near you?

holley79 replied: Come on girl you know you will miss the roadrunner.

FYI, GA is where the Rattlesnake round up is each year. rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

luvmykids replied:
SHUT YOUR MOUTH rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

You know I love you but when you say stuff like that I have to wonder why emlaugh.gif

luvmykids replied:
I've sort of brought it up to them, my mom would do it in a heartbeat but my dad...he's been on staff at the church for 28 years and I don't know if he could leave sleep.gif He's counseled everyone, performed their weddings and funerals, baptized their kids....I think that would break his heart as much as us leaving.

He's trying to retire but nobody will let him, they love him too much laugh.gif I'm hoping that if we move and he retires, he'll get bored and want to come mow the golf course rolling_smile.gif

grapfruit replied:
I was going to ask that too.

Well maybe that will happen hug.gif It would be easier for the kids (and you!) for sure!
