EmilySaw the Pediatrician Yesterday

Kirstenmumof3 wrote: smile.gif The pediatrician explained to us that this is a little early for Emily to be going through puberty. But it is not uncommon, she has seen a few girls starting puberty around the same age that Emily is. The pediatrician told me to keep the lines of communication open and keep reassuring Emily that this is all normal, that all girls go through this. She said "Just be there for her when she needs you." She said given her breast development she is about half way through puberty. I didn't ask how they determined that. She is growing on an even curve, meaning that her weight and height are exactly where they should be in relation to each other. The pediatrician says that Emily appears to be very healthy, but has ordered some routine blood work (thryroid, white blood count, iron levels, stuff like that) and a bone test. She wants to see how Emily's bones are developing in relation to her age. She has a feeling that Emily's bones are older than they are supposed to be. This I found to be very interesting. Emily did really well and handled herself very maturely. I was so proud of the way she answered all the questions she was asked, I honestly don't think I could have at her age. So Emily is going to have her blood tests done in the morning and her x-ray for the bone test done on the weekend. It has to be done at the hospital and it's usually pretty quiet there on the weekend. I will let you all know if anything comes out of all these tests. She wants to see Emily again in 6mths, but said if we have any questions or concerns just to call.

gr33n3y3z replied: I'm glad they are running test on her and I'm sure everything will be fine.
My daughter was 9 1/2 when she started AF talk about your lil girl growing up too fast It just crushed me.

Kirstenmumof3 replied:
Yeah no kidding! DH and I were totally not expecting this to happen to her. Emily is the same as your daughter was when she started her period, 9 1/2.

MomToMany replied: It seems to me that the oldest child tends to go through puberty earlier. But I could be wrong. I hope the tests come out OK. Is the bone test a density screen?

Update us with the results.

DansMom replied: Puberty is rough! Emily is lucky to have a caring mom to help her through smile.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: glad all looks good, sounds like she is pretty mature for her age. they do grow up way to fast.

coasterqueen replied: ((HUGS)) for Emily. Glad everything went well at the docs and hope the tests are painless wink.gif.

Kirstenmumof3 replied:
blush.gif Awww Thanks! Emily's blood test today went well. DH said that she watched them stick the needle in her arm and then watched the vile fill up with blood. Just getting the chills thinking about it! ohmy.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: She is a very mature child from what all you have mentioned in the past. It doesn't surprise me at all that she handled herself so well at the doctor's office today. wink.gif I'm glad they ran some tests on her! Good judgement on their part! thumb.gif Let us know the results.

MommyToAshley replied: Glad all went well at the doc's visit and with the blood tests. It sounds like your Ped is being thorough, that should give some peace of mind.

Keep us posted!

redchief replied:
Kaitlin's our youngest. Although Erin was in gymnastics and high athletic activity tends to slow onset of puberty. Erin was 11 or nearly 11 when she got AF I believe.

kikinelly replied: hi, im new here but can totally understand Emily's situation. My girl is 7 yrs and I noticed what i thought was puberty (pubic hair, breast buds)...she did all the blood tests..Her bone age is 12 yrs old and the doc told us she was going to stop growing sooner than other kids because her bone age is so advanced. Bones fuse and stop growth..Shes VERY tall for her age so her predicted adult height is 5' 7"..thankfully shes gonna be a normal height..if anyone has any questions about this topic i'll be more than happy to help

A&A'smommy replied: oh I'm so glad she is handling this better poor girl! I'm glad she is doing better let us know how the tests turn out!
