Dreams
Maddie&EthansMom wrote: Do you have really weird dreams that don't make any sense? or do you have really normal dreams? Do you even remember your dreams?
My DH claims that he doesn't dream. My dreams are so real and so normal that I hate it. Sometimes I wake up and my dream can totally effect my mood for the rest of the day. 2 nights ago I dreamt of my MIL. She passed away 5 years ago. As part of my grieving I haven't been able to remember her in a really good light until this dream. We laughed and talked together and it was so real. It was really bittersweet.
Last night I dreamt of my high school sweetheart. It just seemed so real to me. I don't know what made me dream of him, but it has bothered me all day.
coasterqueen replied: Well my dreams are even worse now that I'm pregnant. I hate that, really I do.
My dreams are REAL...too real. I've told DH about some of them and he really thinks I need to be locked up in a looney bin. He said to not tell anyone about my dreams or else someone will think I'm a psycho about ready to do something horrible.
None of mine are about me doing something to someone. Mine are mostly about something horrible happening to someone I don't even know. It's really weird. I have to ignore them because I'm afraid that they are REAL...you know like the Sylvia Brown type of thing.
Sometimes I have dreams that involve me and they are just really WEIRD.
When they wake me up it's the worst....I have the hardest time going back to sleep and when I wake up in the morning I have to remind myself that they aren't real and they still haunt me sometimes during the day.
My DH is lucky...he doesn't remember if he dreams or not. Must be nice, lol.
Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Yep, me too!
redchief replied: I have macabre dreams sometimes. I've seen patients, and friends as patients. Those are tough. I also have weird dreams that aren't horrible. Some I've wanted to go back to sleep and finish!!! I've read that dreams are our mind's way of making sense of all the information in our brains, but I swear, my mind makes things up.
I do believe though that our dreams are part of what makes us who we are.
A&A'smommy replied: My dh says the same thing (but only when he is relaxed if he is stressed out he has some WEIRD dreams!) and I ALWAYS dream I did the same thing recently I dreamed about my childhood sweetheart (who is married and his wife is pregnant) and I have been thinking about him for about a week and I REALLY don't want to think about him! I can't remember lasts night dream but I know I did...
mummy2girls replied: Ive had wierd deream, almost physic dreams and just plain im a loony dream! Ive dreamt of my dad being preggo, and me at age 28 going back to grade 5...DUH!!!! Not sure why but its pretty funny. But with me if im really tired i will actaully wake up from my dream still thinking im in the dream and talk to anyone who is sleeping in the same room. I used to bug aron when we were together because i would wake up and yell at him for something he did in my dream..LOL...1 minute later i realize i was not dreaming anymore..LOL.
jolene555 replied: i go in phases. there was a week a while back where i was having bizarre, yet funny, dreams every night. sometimes several a night. i don't know what was going on, but it was fun.
as a child i only had one dream - it was a nightmare where i was being chased by wolves. i would have it at least once a month for as long as i could recall. they stopped when i met barry.
paradisemommy replied: i dream weird and real dreams. but mostly real dreams that drive me nuts. i used to wake up in the morning after having a dream that my husband (now ex) cheated on me - i would wake up and slug him across the shoulder and he would yell "owe what was that for?" and i would tell him clear as day "cheating on me last night in my dream!!" but he would do the same thing and wake up telling me.."oooohhh i am SOOOOO mad at you!!"..
when i was younger, i always had dreams that someone was chasing me..(a bad guy) and the only way i could get away was to fly (and i did in my dreams by flapping my arms really fast like treading water)..pretty funny huh..
dh now said he doesn't dream at all and if he does he doesn't ever remember.
oh and i can't stand those dreams about the ex's..every now and then out of the blue, i'll have one too of him and it makes me so mad..i don't wanna dream about him.
Littlejojames replied: God my dreams are so real.
The other night i jumped up in bed and starting pointing to the draws scared the crap out of craig. What it was i was dreaming that we was sat in the living room and that the dog had opened the draw under the fish tank and stepped in it go get at the goldfish in the tank. It felt so real.............
Then there was one where i had a little boy and it had lovely blonde curly hair one minute it was new born then i turned around and looked back and he was about 3!!!!
MomToJade&Jordan replied: Has anyone every heard that we only dream in black and white? Because if that is the case then I must be weird or something. I dream in vivd color. I have had some pretty strange dreams. I remember a dream I had when I was 5. Can you believe this. I remember it like it was yesterday. There was an actual albino in this dream and he was floating about a foot above the floor (Guys I have no idea how I knew that guy was an albino at the age of five). Anyway that wasn't the weirdest part. At the end of this dream my five year old self sat on my Mom's lap and kept telling her to tell the real Carrie-Ann this is only a dream. I do this even now. I will sit there and look at someone and say you know this is only a dream. Sometimes if something isn't quite right in the dream I will sit there and think and I am able to change it. Please tell me there is someone else out there that can do this.
gr33n3y3z replied: If I finnish a dream to the end it wont come true. But If I do not finnish a dream I will remember being there and all ppl. involved I'm like Wow 85% of the time its right on the money right down to what ppl. are wearing.
coasterqueen replied: Carrie Ann..my dreams are in vivid color too most times. Never heard we just dream in black and white. Interesting.
loveydad replied: I have a lot of nightmares too - mostly cause I fall asleep with the tv on!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I have very vivid dreams all the time! People and Places! They are not normal dreams and they often don't make any sense to me!
Boys r us replied: My dreams are always very realistic. I have a friend who has learned to control his dreams and he dreams of very cery cool things!!! I would love to be able to do this!
DansMom replied: Carrie Ann, I can be conscious I'm dreaming and control outcomes in my dreams too. It has helped me defeat evil people in nightmares, or even to wake from them before anything bad happens, so I'm grateful for this ability. I once read that if you are aware you're dreaming, and you try to look at the palm of your hand or look at your own face in a mirror, you will wake up. It usually works. And I definitely dream in color---and can smell things, taste things, hear music, everything very vivid.
I often have mundane dreams about doing laundry, copy editing, and the like. Usually in those dreams there is a lot of mess and difficulty getting things done properly (kind of like real life LOL!) Then during PMS week my brain goes wacko and the dreams become surreal, troubling, anxiety-ridden and intense. I am often a detective solving a murder mystery or trying to rescue someone.
Recurring nightmares are: boogeyman knocking at the door at night (a human with supernatural ability, a snide, leering, conspiratorial, serial-killer type of person who knows how to get to me no matter what I do); being paralyzed with a great humming sound in my brain; Daniel in trouble and I can't get to him; people I know having died and feeling desolation.
kit_kats_mom replied: I have really wierd, colorful dreams. My DH thinks it's pretty wierd. Plus I'm a sleepwaker so I act out my dreams sometimes too.
When things are crazy, like when we are moving or a new baby is on the way, I dream about tornados. I can feel them picking me up and spinnning me around and around...I hate those. I actually wake up nauseaus like I've just gotten off of a roller coater.
I've been having a lot of dreams/nightmares about alligators lately. Lot's of different scenerios but lots of gators.
I had one very vivid one as a teen that was just too bizarre to even discuss...I'm afraid the men in white coats may come to take me away if that one ever gets out. LOL
I just had one the other night, more of a nightmare, where I was on a plane that was hijacked by terrorists and I had K with me. The terrorists kept landing the plane and letting us off to eat and I called DH on my cell phone to tell him that I was going to die but I was leaving K in a bathroom stall in Washington DC and he needed to come and get her. I got shot for that
My pregnant dreams are totally wacko too.
MomToJade&Jordan replied: Oh I have all of my senses in dreams as well. I have never heard about the mirror or palm thing. I might try that the next time I am having a dream I don't like. I'm glad I'm not the only one who can control dreams. I have had my share of tornado dreams. I really do hate those. I tend to have this recurring dream that I am still in college and I need one more class to graduate, but I'm failing that class. I really hate that dream.
Maddie&EthansMom replied:
I definetly do this. There is a word for it, but it has escaped me. We talked about it in my psych class. I totally control most of my dreams and they are very vivid as well. I've had a lot of the chasing dreams (being chased by cops) and I have all of my senses in my dreams as well. A lot of times I feel like I am choking or drowning in my dream and I hold my breath. Normally I tell myself "It is only a dream...you can breath."
The dream I hate that I have a lot is the one where I am in college and have forgotten to go to class for like 6 weeks! I hate that feeling of failure. I have a book that analyzes dreams, but none of mine are in there.
There is also a word for recurring dreams. Most people don't dream the same thing twice, but I do!
Oh and redchief, I have a lot of those dreams where I just don't want to wake up!
kit_kats_mom replied: You guys are talking about lucid dreaming. I've never personally experienced it but I just sent Carrie-Ann this link:
http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gte484v/wakinglife.html
This is a guys write up of a movie called "Waking Life". My Dh and I rented it from netflix awhile back but we totally didn't get it...now with this link to help explain some of it, maybe I'll watch it again.
I'm sure that a lucid dreamer would find it interesting. It's also an "art" movie and animation afficianados would probably like it. It's all shot in digital video then a bunch (30 or so) digital animators worked on different parts of the film
DansMom replied: I think the self-controlled dreams are called Lucid Dreams?
I forgot all about the performance anxiety dreams!! Most people I know have them about college and not being prepared for class or an exam, or realizing you've never attended a particular class and have to take a test, and I've had those, but only rarely. My recurring version is that I'm going on stage in five minutes in a leading role and haven't memorized any of my lines. In the dream I'll be frantically trying to memorize my lines for the first scene from a book while the band is playing and the curtain is rising. It's truly awful, the feeling of dread, and the relief when I wake up! I should never have done plays in high school LOL!
MomToJade&Jordan replied: I have had that version of the performance anxiety dream too. I was a music major in college and I did drama and chorus all through school. I have had them where I am sitting off stage with the script in my hands trying to remember lines while the show is going on. I have also been the lead vocal, but I have no idea what my part is. I used to get these dreams a lot right before I had to jury in college. Basically to be graded on your individual lessons you had to learn a bunch of songs and then sing them for a panel of professers. Let me tell you about the anxiety a person can feel before that. It would trigger those dreams on a nightly basis.
Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Yes! That is my dream!!!
And I was referring to lucid dreaming. Just couldn't remember the word off the top of my head.
loveydad replied: I do this all the time. I'll have a moment and suddenly feel like i've seen it before. Scary!
Josie83 replied: My dreams are always real as well, and I talk during them which drives Jason mad! I hate it when you have a horrible dream that is really vivid and you can't get out of it . . . xx
