Dr. wants to do an induction!

dolfinrse wrote: I am really upset right now. I went to the dr. this morning and when they checked my blood pressure it was 150something/90 something. The nurse checked in twice in a row. So she goes to get the dr. and he suggests that being that I am 39 weeks, that I get induced. I have not had high blood pressure up until today. I told the dr. that I did not want the induction after how Zack was born (cord around the neck, not breathing, swallowing meconium). The dr. told me that he would recommend this baby out by the weekend. I call dh, we talked about it and called to schedule the induction for tomorrow morning. The hospital will not take me at all tomorrow because they have too many inductions already. So we scheduled it for Friday night. They told me I have to go in Fri night and have Cervadil (sp?) put on my cervix because I am not dilated at all, and then Sat morning they will start the Pitocin. The dr. told me I could stop in tomorrow or Fri and have my blood pressure rechecked and if it is normal, and I do not want to be induced, then they will wait. I don't know what to do, part of me wants it over with and the other part wants Madison to come on her own. I am so confused. DH tells me to do whatever I want to do because it is my body! dunno.gif dunno.gif

A&A'smommy replied: Hun if i were you I think I would go get it checked again tomorrow and THEN see how you feel!! Follow your heart!! ((((HUGS)))

luvbug00 replied: DO what you think is right for YOU. If it was me I'd let her come on her own. But like I said do what youthink is right and I hope all goes well! happy.gif

ammommy replied: That's pretty high blood pressure, especially if the 90 something was in the upper range. I'd have your BP rechecked and if it's still high go ahead with the induction. I know it's not the way you want your baby to be born, but you also don't want to have an emergency situation. Hopefully, your BP will go down and you can wait it out.

coasterqueen replied:
I agree. It's a tough decision. grouphug.gif

jacobsmama replied: Wow I had the same thing happen to be during my pregnancy. I'm a nurse for the DR that I saw during my pregnancy. I had a little bout of High BP and then got better but then at 38-39 weeks happened again I went back a few days later got recheck still high so set up induction. Cervidill is best way to go if you have the induction. Turns out when I went to be induced my BP was ok but we went ahead b/c I was almost term. and how were we to know if they next day it wouldn't be up again. Just be reasurred that if you have to be induced you will be okay. People say it is worse and things like that but I really didnt' think it was. Just remember they will be constantly monitering the baby and if you are not yet dialted it can take a while for that to happen so that is pleanty of time to let your BP go back up again it is very commom with the end of pregnancy. Good luck with whatever you deciede but I agree with the others get it checked if still up then go ahead with the induction. God Bless you in your journey. smile.gif

I agree!!! Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!! thumb.gif

amynicole21 replied: That's exactly the progression of events during my labor with Sophia. The cervadil wasn't that big of a deal, but it sucked because I was stuck in bed. I was induced again with Nora and the length of time from I sat down in the hospital until she was born was only 4 hours! Second labors go soooo much better wink.gif I was terrified of being induced again because the first labor didn't go so well, but after such a quick labor and only 15min of pushing, I'm glad I went that route!

If you decide to go through with the induction, have them pop your water when they start the pitocin - it speeds things up a lot.

Remember, a healthy baby and mama is what you ultimately want out of this delivery, right? Keep that in mind when you think about the doc's suggestion wink.gif Good luck!

dolfinrse replied: Well, we stopped at a bp machine tonight in the store just for the heck of it, and my bp was 143/88. Not as high as earlier, but considering this entire pregnancy it has been 120/80 it is still scary.

I think I am more nervous because I was induced with Zack and how he was born and I keep thinking it is going to be the same thing, even though I know in my heart they had nothing to do with each other.

The dr. already talked to me today about breaking my water, but being that I am not dilated at all, he needs to do the Cervadil first. Then after I start dilating he will break my water and give me the pitocin.

MomToMany replied: Don't do it. I can tell from your posts that you don't want to do it. The baby will come when s/he is ready. It's kind of suspious if they already have too many inductions. Your body knows what to do. Your Dr. doesn't.

Follow your heart.

Josie83 replied: This must be so hard for you! I don't think anyone can tell you wahat to do . . . only YOU know what is right for you and your baby. I hope you make the right decision and that everything goes smoothly grouphug.gif xx

mom2tripp replied:
JUST IMO----if your blood pressure is high couldn't it harm the baby? I tend to listen to Doctors after all they are doctors for a reason right? It is good to listen to yourself but if you have a medical reason to be induced then I probably would go through with it.

GOOD LUCK with whatever you decide though--keep us posted smile.gif

MomToMany replied:
"Doctors" tend to do what is convenient for THEM, not what's in the mother & baby's best interest. It's sad, but true.

How have your BP readings been up to this point Donna? What have they been since this reading? Maybe you were nervous or rushed and that's why it was elevated. There needs to be several consistent elevated readings for you to have high blood pressure. Most Dr.'s will rush you to be induced after only one reading.

Please keep us updated on how you are doing.

coasterqueen replied:
I have to agree with Mollie on this. They shouldn't diagnose you with high bp unless they have several high readings.

Shoot the doc that was going to deliver Megan wanted me to give up and go for a c-section. I went in at around 2 or so am (can't remember exact time now) and by 7 pm that night he said we should do c-s and that we were waisting our time. I had her via vbac at around 10:30 pm. It was clearly a case of he just didn't want to deal with my situation and was thinking only of his interests.

kimberley replied:
ditto.

my OB did the same stupid thing.. using scare tactics to make me get induced. it was a long weekend and definitely the wrong choice for me, but i took the dr's word and he was wrong. he just didn't want to sit in the hospital all weekend and i went thru hell for nothing.

go with your gut and do what you feel comfortable doing. i was not at all comfortable with the induction and let the OBs bully me into doing it when they didn't have to. do what is right for you and baby.

A&A'smommy replied: I was induced for the same reason! I shouldn't have listened.. dry.gif

dolfinrse replied:

Up until now my bp has been normal (120/80). Yesterday was the first day that it was elevated at all. Last night when I had it done in the store by a machine it was 143/88. My mom seems to think that it is just nerves being that my due date is getting closer. I haven't checked my bp today, but I still feel a little funny, so maybe I will get it checked again tonight, and then tomorrow I will go back to the dr's office, have him check it and then decide what we are going to do. DH and I talked last night and said that if it is normal tomorrow, we will not be induced.

MomToMany replied: It probably IS your nerves. Plus, if you are walking around a lot, it would go up. You should probably try to relax for 5-10 minutes before they take it. They don't usually do this dry.gif ; as soon as you get in the exam room they take it (for me at least).

Good luck! I hope it stays down for you!

mummy2girls replied: be acreful with that blood pressure though. Its scarey stuff!

But i admit if you dont need to be induced then dont. becayuse i was both times and it went slow and hurt! Jordans was so bad. And lasted over 24 hours. Jenna was less but it still hurt!!
