Double strollers? - for infant and toddler

coasterqueen wrote: Does anyone have a double stroller? If so what kind, do you like it? With DH going to be gone, I don't really want to be stuck at home all the time, but trying to keep Kylie in tow while Megan's either in a sling or stroller is just too much for me. Kylie tends to run off dry.gif and I can't have that if DH is not there to help me. Even though Kylie doesn't like a stroller I'm going to have to make her understand the only way we are getting out of the house is to get in one. tongue.gif I think I can persuade her. So DH told me to buy a double stroller. I can't afford a real expensive one, though. I can't decide on the side by side or one in front of the other ones. The side by side seems like it could be a pain, but the cheaper umbrella type double ones are the side by side.

Ideas?

CantWait replied: My friend has got a side by side and it's nice. Only about $60 Canadian at Walmart. The only down fall is going through doors and isles at a store with it. It just makes it through.

Jamison'smama replied: I have a Graco one--not side by side. I recommend the non side by side ones if you plan to use it in the malls and places where there are small isles---as you know, it is hard to even get a single stroller in some of those stores. I see doubles in a lot of resale shops--or do you know anyone you can borrow one from for just a couple of months or even occasionally when you go out?

coasterqueen replied:
I'm going to check a consignment shop here in town at lunch today. I prefer the tandem ones but DH thinks the side by side ones would be better so the girls could interact more. dunno.gif Is that a problem for you, have you noticed that being a problem that they can't interact not being side by side?

Jamison'smama replied:
Oh, they still interact---if Jamison is in front, she spends the whole time turning around and talking to Jack---if she doesn't, he sits and tries to pull her hair to get her attention. It's never been a problem. I also like the more substantial ones for napping needs or even for the emergency diaper changing---I can just lay the back seat down---also, they both have tray tables--that's a plus

laugh.gif laugh.gif I could just imagine the sight of those two. rolling_smile.gif wub.gif

Well we went to the consignment shop at lunch and they only had one double stroller. I can't remember the brand, but it was a VERY expensive one because they had it for sale for $275.00 ohmy.gif DH about had a heart attack. Uh, we won't be getting that one, lol. Although it was nice because it was designed so they could face each other, two infants could lay down flat, they could both face forward, etc. Oh well. There's one other consignment shop in town I'll try before tackling the new ones. rolleyes.gif

3_call_me_mama replied: I have the Peg PErrego Aria Twin. It's EXPENSIVE (around $400 at babies are us) but much cheaper $250 on ebay (New ) adn I love it. BUT I wouldn't reccommend it, especially since Kylie is so tall adn over 30lbs. It is very hard to maneuver with a heavy kid on 1 side adn a light kid on the other (since megan os only 6 months it'll be hard to push I think) I would reccommend the graco duo glider it's a tandum (We have this one also, but don't use it much) adn it's heavier but it maneuvers well in teh mall and stores adn such. I like the side by side better cause both seats can recline rather than just hte back, but you can't always fit through the aisles. Good luck with the stroller hunt, it was NOT fun when I did it last year:(

Maybe try that sit adn stand combo thing. That way kylie coudl just sit or stand on the back and it wouldn't be like being in a stroller for her.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied:
that is what we have and I really like it, we used it from when Matt was like 3 days old.

That being said we are eyeing the Instep Ar 265 it is a double jogger but the front wheel turns, we live in the city but I stil have a hard time with any strollers arround the neighborhood and this gets excellent ratings and is supposedly great on dirt paths too.

aspenblue1 replied: I have a graco double stroller and I love it!

Alice replied: I used the Graco duoglider forever! It's front to back, so it's easy to fit through doorways and aisles in stores. It's lightweight and easy to fold up. I recommend it highly!!

b&bsmom replied: I have a Right Start double and I love it. What is nice is it came with a metal bar to hook on the front seat and it adjust to fit almost any infant seat so you don't have to take baby out of the seat. The other nice thing is the back seat comes out and it has a platform where my dd can sit or stand. It is so nice. I take care of kids at home and it has come in handy. I had to take my 2yr old (then) another 2yr old and an infant to take my 5yr old daughter to school I used to put my 2yr olds in the stroller and use the handle to carry the infant seat and push.

Just an FYI on the side by side strollers. They are not good unless your children are close in age. I learned that when I was researching strollers when i had my ds. Hope this helps.

Oh and ps they do interact especially if you have the infant seat in front because the infant seat faces the back seat. However it got to the point where my ds would annoy dd always happens can't win with that rolling_smile.gif

angelhair replied: I had a saftey first and i hated it. my toddler who is over 30 lbs is to haevy and what happened is that the stroller always pulled greatly to one side and i had to wrestle with it to straighten it out. i do not know if it was because i have a older child(3) and a infant but i would not trust it with heavier kids and a infant.by heavier i would say anything over 35 lbs and defentely the more closer to 40 lbs(which some stollers list as the maximun wieght) the more unsafe it can be. good luck!! you might have some luck with other brands other then the saftey first and it depends how much your older child wieghs. love dee

My3LilMonkeys replied: We have a regular front and back double stroller (can't remember the brand and its in DH's trunk right now) that we got for $20 at a yard sale. It is a lifesaver!
First the bad points: it is a little heavy, can be hard to steer and when the rear seat is laying flat it is hard to get into the basket.
Good points: size/weight of kids makes no difference, it is comfy enough for them when we are out for long periods of time, rear seat lays flat and holds an infant seat.

As for interaction, Brooke turns around and talks to Madison constantly so that is not a problem.

I tried the side by side (borrowed from a friend) and had 2 problems with it:
1. Madison doesn't sit up that well yet so it didn't work for her
2. Weight difference made it hard to steer - my girls are 28 lb and 17 lb so even a 10 lb difference makes it difficult.

HTH!
