Does your child have a book that you can't stand?

coasterqueen wrote: Is there a book or books that your child owns that you literally CAN'T stand and they want you to read it all the time?

Kylie does! Its a Little Tikes cooking book (press numbers and stuff) and she asks me to read it a dozen times a day. Oh I can't stand that book! Dh hates it too and he made sure it disappeared today after he read it to her 6 times in a row! tongue.gif

luvbug00 replied: Ohh would somone please find the author of "the red ripe strawberry and the big hungry bear" so I can strangle them for writing that book!! I don't think my couch can take anymore strawberry stains!! ( it involves cutting a strawberry in half and sharring) wacko.gif

Jamison'smama replied: Yes, 2 actually, the first is the Dora the Explorer Super Silly Fiesta lift the flap book---I get so tired of seeing the birthday cake on the head of the big red chicken!! The second is a princess book that has far too many words to keep her interest if I were to read them so I have to paraphrase each time I read it and that gets OLD.

Jamison'smama replied:
That's funny, we have that book too and I like it--probably because Jamison doens't so I don't have to read it 800 times.

coasterqueen replied: Oooh, DH just reminded me of one more. The Pokey Little Puppy! I need to lose that book too. I don't know why but I've read it so many times I'm so sick of it. tongue.gif

amynicole21 replied: "Tootle, the Train" the Little Golden book. It is so freaking boring and long! Actually, I doubt Sophia has ever really heard the actual version of the book - we usually summarize down to one sentance per page so we can get it over with!

DansMom replied: Well, I know Dr. Seuss is popular and generally I love the books. But Green Eggs and Ham is really long.... saying the same rhymes over and over; and I get exhausted with the sound effects of Mr. Brown Can Moo! rolling_smile.gif However, Daniel is of an age that I can make him do the sounds wink.gif He recites a lot of Go Dog Go, so I don't have to.

ian'smommy replied: Not books necessarily... But videos, YES!!! dry.gif My mom got him a video about sharing that is made by the makers of Sesame Street. It's a good video, but I got sick of it after seeing it more than 5 times in a row.... rolleyes.gif

maestra replied: Good Night Moon! I never could stand that book- and when you have to read it 30 times, it just gets worse. Sometimes I think Margaret Wise Brown had to meet a deadline or something and so she stuck "Good Night Nothing" in there to fill pages. What is with that? And I hate the pictures.

Ahh.....that feels better. Thanks! wavey.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I never have to worry,,,because everytime we buy her a book..she rips the whole thing up a week later...I will go in her room and it will be destroyed. mad.gif

stanleygirl replied: Well, I used to love this book, but now that we have read it so many times, I cant stand it. 'We share everyting' by Robert Munsch. It is really cute, but we literally read it 10-20 times a day. ( some days I hide it, so I can have a break)

kittyleii replied: OK here's the one I'm not sure about unsure.gif Jack and the beanstalk, Jack is very poor so breaks into the Giants house and steals from him and then chops down the beanstalk and kills the Giant! I don't know that this is sending a good message, what do you think?

MommyToAshley replied: I am almost embarrrassed to say that I hate the Dr. Seuss books. blush.gif They just don't make sense to me, I like a good storyline. blush.gif I mentioned this before, but I don't like the parts of the Winnie The Pooh classic books where they refer to him as being "a bear of little brain" or say that he "was not that smart" so I skip those parts.

But, I am lucky, Ashley has a huge selection of books. She wants me to read about 10 of them every night, but it's usually not the same ones every night. thumb.gif

maestra replied:
As a teacher, I hate Dr. Seuss books too, and I don't recommend them to the parents of my kindergarteners. Kids really do need a storyline to help them understand story. They can hear rhyming words in other books. wavey.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Kylie has a huge collection of books too but she goes through these spurts where only certain books are good enough to read. Then a couple weeks later it's another set of books. rolleyes.gif wacko.gif
