Do your toddlers pray?

kimberley wrote: just curious cuz the boys said prayers with me all the time even as young as 2yo but i can't get Jade to sit still or pay attention unsure.gif . i don't push it on her but do try every so often. she just wants nummies lol.

MommyToAshley replied: Ashley is good about saying prayers, especially before we eat and before bedtime. She is usually the one to reminds us. blush.gif

But, I am not sure that she fully understands why we pray yet.

Sunflower04 replied: Joey just says a night time pray. It is so cute though. wub.gif

5littleladies replied: Brianna doesn't pray too much yet but that is probably because the rest of us usually do it. She won't go to sleep unless we pray for her though-She's very insistent and it's pretty cute. wub.gif

luvbug00 replied: I answered never because reliogn does not play a role in our family. ( we are doing the pick your religon when you are older and can figure out on your own thing happy.gif )

I did as a young child though. My dad was a devout catholic and soo, well, we did.

coasterqueen replied: Well I voted sometimes, but I guess that is not entirely true because Kylie just for the first time asked to say prayer at the dinner table last night. It was SO DARN cute. I can't believe the things she was saying. I almost cried. wub.gif

ian'smommy replied: Ian prays every night. It's pretty basic. He says "God Bless...." and names off family members which is usually about 9 people and sometimes the pets... lol
He also prays before we eat. The basic, "God is great God is good" prayer. Sometimes we forget and he reminds us and sometimes we have to remind him. On occasion he insists on praying more than once during the meal. It's adorable.

Jamison'smama replied: We try to remember to pray at meals and we always do before bedtime--I love her prayers and have written down my favorites--she always thanks God for her kitchen----she must love that thing!

kimberley replied:
aww how cute! happy.gif wub.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yes, Maddie prays. wink.gif I just love to hear her pray. We normally pray at bedtime and before we eat a meal. biggrin.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Well no, but he's too young. I wouldn't even know a prayer to teach him since I don't pray, but I'm reading a bit on Judaism to learn. Plus DH prays (or more like meditates) every day, so I suppose he'll teach Wil his own prayers. We will have to come to an agreement on that one soon... deal.gif

Good question!

mckayleesmom replied: Mckaylee does the now I lay me down to sleep prayer before bedtime....but Im starting to worry that the "if I die" part will scare her....we need a new one.

MommyToAshley replied:
We don't say that version either.... we say:

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
May Angels watch me through the night
And keep me in their blessed sight.
Amen.

kimberley replied:
i never heard that version before. that is great! thumb.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Yeah - we change it too....except ours is:

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
May Angels watch me through the night
Until I wake to morning light
Amen

As for meals - we try to eat together, but usually Emilie is screaming because she's hungry, Zach isn't hungry at all, DH just serves himself and eats, and so I have to serve the kids, help them eat, try to shovel some in MY mouth, then I get to clean up while finishing eating while DH gives the kids a bath.

Were mealtimes a bit calmer, we most likely would then too.

An odd one - we always say a little prayer before going on car trips.

3_call_me_mama replied: Cameron does "God Bless.... " and now I lay me down to sleep, (the same as Rocky's) and that's it fo rnow. He starts Preschool next week and it's a christian preschool, so he will learn a few there adn also grace beofre snack, so we will start doing it at dinner adn lunch at home:)

CantWait replied:
This is the one we say at night. We have a little bunny from the baby section I got for Anthony at walmart when he was born that says it, so we go through it at bedtime. And then we say God bless..........(whoever we want to bless that night) wub.gif

Haley's Mom replied: My husband and I say the Lord's Prayer with Haley every night and she also prays over her food. It fills my heart when she says AMEN! rolling_smile.gif

My2Beauties replied: Hanna doesn't she doesn't know what all that is right now though, I don't think that Desiree does, at least she never has in front of me, but she does attend church sometimes.

jcc64 replied: We are not a religious family, but I think it's important for kids to express gratitude, and to stop and consider their own good fortunes as well as the plight of others. I think praying, or contemplating, or whatever you call it, is a good practice for children.

A&A'smommy replied: I didn't vote its something I haven't done with her yet but I think we are going to do "family devotionals" at night or at least read a bible story and pray with her so I can teach her to pray and stuff on her own

moped replied: I said no only because Jack has the attention span of a house fly - but he will.........he should pray that his mother doesn't ring his neck today - LOL........................just joking!
