Do you think this is reasonable?

Daycare is VERY expensive around here...about $950 a month full time which we could NEVER afford. But this woman at work has a daughter who offered to watch her for us 2 mornings a week and my fiance's mom will watch her the rest of the time. (Well and my mom on Thursdays. ) His mom would watch her everyday, all day for us but she works nights so she needs her sleep, so she asked if someone could ATLEAST watch her 2 mornings a week. Well this girl wants $75 a week for 10 hours. Does that seem steep? I mean its only 2 mornings.
My2Beauties replied: IMHO I think that is really high!!! I only pay $80 a week for a full time babysitter. If she is only watching this child two mornings she shouldn't get $75 a week. I don't know where you live but daycare facilities around here for babies are only $125 a week for full time, that is 30 more hours a week and only $50 more dollars. That price sounds absurd to me
coasterqueen replied: I'm not sure. I know I pay roughly $100 a week for at-home daycare for Kylie. But I don't know the area you live in so that might be an accurate figure.
I'm doing rough figures here but if you would pay $950 a month and baby would be in daycare 5 days a week that would equal out to $38 a day. Which would be 8 hours a day at $4.75 an hour.
$4.75*10 hours in a week would be $47.50 for daycare....but I know my at-home provider charges more for kids that go on "part-time" basis too.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: My mother has a daycare center and for 'drop ins' she charges $20/day. All the full timers she just went up on to $80/week. In Dallas she would get more, but she is in small town Texas.
ETA: It is more than I would pay. This is why I am a SAHM! I could never make enough to afford daycare around here.
Alice replied: I can't answer your question, and here's why: before I quit teaching, I had Brian in a daycare center for 18 months, and Julia for 3 months. The cost was....hold your breath.... $1000 per month per child (with 10% off the second child.) So my 2 kids' daycare was $1800 per month!! (And remember, I was a teacher, making a teacher's salary.) Thus a SAHM was born.
But, back to your question: when I pay a sitter(teenager) to watch my 3 kids, I pay $7 per hour. I can't imagine that too many parts of the country cost more than the metropolitan NY area. So your $7.50 per hour for one child sounds really out of line.
kit_kats_mom replied: My daycare provider, who I have a part time arrangement with, runs me $30/day + a little extra peroidically for art supplies. I send K 3 days per week. I know that costs vary thoughout the states.
kimberley replied: wow have i ever been ripped off. i have only ever been paid between $5-$7/hr for watching kids. i think that is a little steep for just 2 mornings.
aspenblue1 replied: I pay 25.00 a day for in daycare. I know some places around her charge a lot more than that our friends pay around 200.00 a week for childcare
Mom2Boyz replied: My Step Mother owns a daycare, and she charges $15 per day for infants and $12 per day for children over 1. I know she charges more for drop ins, and part time kids though. It sounds like rates depend alot on where you live.
A&A'smommy replied: OMG that sounds really expensive! Good luck with what you do.... That sounds like a really hard decision!
Jamison'smama replied: It does vary---Childcare for us was 195 per week for an infant--roughly 5.00 per hour--so it would be closer to 50.00 for 10 hours per week--that's in a center. I would pay extra for someone I knew or a private setting so while 75 seems a little high--it wouldn't be too far off. I would just call around and get some rates in your area and see.
TeagansMom609 replied: Well I called around, and after getting alot of insane prices I FINALLY found a YMCA near me who only charges $139 a month for two mornings a week! WHHOO HOO! I was suprised because I called other YMCA's near here and most of them were $139 a week, not a month. I even called them back and said are you sure its $139 a month, not a week? And she said yup, its $139 a month. Now thats a good price! Im going to go look at the place after work if I can.
KatieLeigh79 replied: A lot of women in our area want 10.95/hour or 400.00 a week - as well as holiday and some paid "time off" (bring your own meals, diapers etc)- partly why unless someone wanted to give me a really high paying job I won't be going back to work until I get him into a school system
coasterqueen replied: That sounds good, but DO look into the people who will be watching your child at the Y. I say that because I know at our Y..the times I've gone by the nursery they have teenage kids watching the younger ones. While on occassion I wouldn't mind that...I'm not sure if that would be someone I'd want watching my child while I work because they are not inclined to help "teach" them new things, etc.
So just look into that for sure.
TeagansMom609 replied: Well I called that YMCA to see when I could come check the place out and they told me I could but there is a 3 page waiting list! Dammit! So now I will probably have to end up paying that girl $75 a week to watch her 2 mornings!
