Do you remember...

MyBrownEyedBoy wrote: Shrinky dinks??

Marie's post about those dots things got me thinking. What do you remember playing with as a child. I was nuts for shrinky dinks. Color them and put them in the oven and watch them shrink. How cool was that?

My3LilMonkeys replied: I loved Shrinky Dinks!!!

I was just discussing with a coworker - I remember the big thing in elementary school was when it was your turn to use the computer at recess and play Oregon Trail. I loved that game.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
OMG, and the computers were a black screen with green writing. God, I feel old.

MoonMama replied: I remember my brothers having Shrinky Dinks and them letting me color with them too. wub.gif I remember Popples, Care Bears, My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake, the original Polly Pockets, Light Brights, hmmm I'm sure I'll think of more later.

MoonMama replied:
I so remember those too (although we got color in 5th or 6th grade I believe blush.gif). And remember thinking the games were the coolest things ever?! emlaugh.gif

ETA: What about the original Nintendo?

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
You had good brothers. I wouldn't let mine anywhere near my shrinky dinks.

And how about Rainbow Bright?

MoonMama replied:
I still have mine somewhere around here! happy.gif I absolutely adored her! She went everywhere with me. laugh.gif

Anthony275 replied: i remember those!

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Wow, Ally, I'm really feeling old. I don't think we got color monitors until I was in high school.

My3LilMonkeys replied:
I still have - and regularly play with - a Super Nintendo. I still believe Super Mario Brothers 3 is the greatest video game ever! rolling_smile.gif

MoonMama replied:
I'm sorry! cool.gif hug.gif hug.gif

Oh I love my Super Nintendo, and best of all DH wont touch it! tongue.gif I still love Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I remember Duck Hunt on the original Nintendo. And yes, I'm 31.

MoonMama replied:
Oh I loved Duck Hunt, and I still love playing Super Mario Brothers (yes the original) on my Game Boy once in a while. When it wants to work. emlaugh.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Wow, I started a hot topic.

Calimama replied: What are Shrinky drinks? huh.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
They were these plastic things you colored with pencils and then your mom put them in the oven and you watched them crinkle up and then flatten out into the same thing, only smaller.

MoonMama replied:
Thanks a lot Denise, now I feel old! emlaugh.gif tongue.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Ally, you aren't allowed to feel old. Until you're over 30

Calimama replied:
Ohhh PLEASE.. you're not much older than I am! rolling_smile.gif

ETA: You know I was sad about turning 20?.. it didn't have that nice little "een" at the end of it so I felt old emlaugh.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Shut up! biggrin.gif I was a bit upset when I turned 25, a quarter of a century.

Twelve Volt Man replied: I liked Garbage Pail Kids!

Calimama replied:
Don't tell me it's a quarter of a century!! I'm still adjusting to TWENTY. emlaugh.gif I told DH who had no sympathy for me since he hit 26 this month. emlaugh.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Sorry, I have no sympathy either.

And Jay, I remember those being banned in grade school. Along with slap bracelets.

MoonMama replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Denise my DH is the same way rolling_smile.gif he turned 34 this year so he has ZERO sympathy! emlaugh.gif

Anthony275 replied: remember the cloth cabbage patch kids dolls? i have one of those somewhere

A&A'smommy replied: ha ya'll are so funny!!!! I had never heard of Shrinky dinks but I still have my popple and Rainbow bright.. only they are alyssa's now.. oh and my ORIGINAL care bear tongue.gif

Ally how old are you??

MoonMama replied:
I got many slap bracelets taken away in school. rolling_smile.gif I remember at the end of the year begging my mom to go and get them back for me. She wouldn't dry.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Mine wouldn't either. dry.gif

MoonMama replied:
I'm 23.

Calimama replied:
SEEEE! You officially can never say I make you feel old again. rolling_smile.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
You're just a young-un.

Calimama replied:
I had a Rainbow Bright and an Easy bake oven!! I used to love those until I discovered Barbies.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I never had a Barbie. They give girls bad self body image. According to my mother.

Anthony275 replied: did you know they made a pregnant barbie doll?

Calimama replied:
Yeah I remember crying once because I wanted blonde hair like Barbie.. my mom told me to be quiet because I'm Italian and it's just never going to happen. rolling_smile.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Now that I've gotta see. Who was the daddy? Ken was not anatomically correct.

Calimama replied:
NO WAY! Did it have stretch marks?? tongue.gif

MoonMama replied:
Have I told you how much I love you! emlaugh.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Love you too, girlie. I've got 8 years on you.

A&A'smommy replied: GIRL you are only a year older than i am, so um hello you are NOT old!!! tongue.gif

look what i found http://www.shrinkydinks.com I TOTALLY WANT IT!!!!!

SLAP bracelets ha I had so many of those.. and bruises from them blush.gif

MoonMama replied:
Oh I remember it. There was a HUGE controversy over it. Before I had Brae and became a SAHM I was a nanny. Anyway one of the little girls I nannied for had one. It was Barbie's friend Midge (sp) who had a husband and I believe 1 or 2 older kids IDK for sure. But Midge had a magnetic belly that would come off once she "had" the baby or something like that. I found it a little disturbing myself to be honest. But after a while it was too big of an issue so they ended up eventually just selling (tiny, skinny perfect, bodied) Midge with her newborn baby in arm. rolleyes.gif

Calimama replied:
Those are SOO cool. ohmy.gif

Anthony275 replied: user posted image

btw ken and barbie broke up in 2004

MoonMama replied:
OMG they would so be perfect to get my brothers for Christmas!!! greenapple.gif greenapple.gif

CantWait replied: blush.gif blush.gif Omgosh Kelly you don't even wanna know what I was thinking when I read that. I don't think I ever played, saw, or even heard of those. emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

CantWait replied:
Those I remember. Funny thing is, I asked for years and years for a light bright, and my mom didn't get it for me till I was like way old, 13 or 14 I think. I was like WTF emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

I also remember Rainbow Bright, cabbage patch kids (still have a few), and Duck Hunt (the best game EVER).

Anthony275 replied: they redesigned lite brite now...kinda lost its originality

amynicole21 replied:
I still have the entire first edition at my mom's house! rolling_smile.gif I got them as a prize for being good on the school bus.

I wonder why they don't make shrinky dinks anymore? I loved those things!
ETA! Just saw the link! I am soooo buying some.

Remember friendship bracelets and those safety pin bead things you put on your shoes (Tretorns (sp?) of course!) tongue.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
So, Barbie's a single mom?

Our Lil' Family replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif My mom still has my Tretorn box!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I remember Garbage Pail Kids, slap bracelets, shrinky dinks, LOVED my Nintendo with Duck Hunt and SMB 1 and 2...although 2 was a 1 player game which sucked sometimes. I remember ZCaverici's (sp) and Girbaud, the heat activated shirts that changed colors, Tretorns were a MUST, as were Converse at one point, now they are back in. I remember PLASTIC BOWS with PUFF PAINT...I had a New Kids on the Block one! All of these bows were on top of my SIDE PONYTAIL!! I also remember bows made out of labels...DH and I were just talking about this the other day. I also had a metal bow with holes punched out....looked worse than swiss cheese. And of course I tight rolled!!!!!!

I'm sure I'll remember more later.

ETA: I'm dying here, they still make Tretorns!!!!! These rock, I want them: http://www.shoes.com/product.asp?p=5015733...nt_id=EC1027865

lovemy2 replied: OK - I am going to trump you all - I am closer to 40 than I am 30 - that's all I will say - here is what I remember

Hasbro hand held games - football, basketball - the "people" were lines
Light Bright
Baby Alive

I too remember Shrinky Dinks - Olivia loves them....

Oh and what about Docksiders (shoes) - they were sooo in....

And what about those barrettes you made with the ribbon - you weaved the ribbon onto the barrettes and then left stuff hanging with beads?

And of course friendship bracelets.........

I will have to keep thinking - its tough to remember ALL that way back when you are my age emlaugh.gif

redchief replied:
When I was in high school the "geeks" learned how to "program" computers with those manila data cards... You know, the ones where you have to punch out numbers and line the cards up to make the computer "understand" what you want. The computer was the size of a golf cart.

When I was a kid we had GI Joes... you know the full sized ones. Just as I was growing too old for them they came out with "real hair." I was jealous of my brother who had hairy Joes. Yes, I had a footlocker.

I also had a skateboard with real turning trucks (that's right, no more roller skate wheels for me!). The board was just that, a board.

Whiffle Ball.

punkeemunkee'smom replied:

AHHHH! OMG! Only if you had those cool wild color slouch socks! rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif or jellies! emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif

DillsMommy replied: Remember "Colorforms"? I LOVED my Muppet set.

it didnt have stretch marks, but you could literally take off the pregnancy weight

Calimama replied:
Of course you could. Barbie has it easy. rolling_smile.gif

Anthony275 replied: no she dosent, she has no reproductive organs so shes missing out on a lot wink.gif

Calimama replied:
rolling_smile.gif

Anthony275 replied: oh man does anybody remember those shoes with that gak stuff in it? or something like that when you touched it it changed colors
and the light up shoes

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Bionic woman doll...she rocked! You could open her a little door in her arm and see computer parts.

I also had Donnie and Marie dolls - yes, that would be like the Hannah Montanas of today for you young ones. And this was the Marie way before dancing with the stars! rolling_smile.gif I think there was a Mork and Mindy set too!

What was the handheld computer thing that was red and it's squares would light up in a sequence? You would have to then try and follow the sequence in exact order. If you missed a button, you would hear a loud buzz.....Something like Merlin?

ETA: Found it!! Merlin. Guess it's BACK!

PrairieMom replied:
AUGH! stupid Oregon trail. I always died.

Anthony275 replied: omg i know what you're talking about...its red green orange(?) and yellow

My3LilMonkeys replied:

PrairieMom replied:

Anthony275 replied: nothings the same anymore because everything on tv sucks and all the toys are recalled
