Dance? Gymnastics? Swimming?

mummy2girls wrote: I want to register Jenna into a class for her to do on the weekends... I called 3 types of classes and all in my price range. Did your child prefer one over the other( if they did any of these)? Im leaning towards gymnastics because she loved it when i had her in it last year... but im kinda leaning towards something new. Have you ever put your child in more than one class before? and was it to overwhelming?

MoonMama replied: I voted gymnastics. thumb.gif

LOVE your siggy pic BTW! wub.gif

ETA: When I was little I did both gymnastics and dance, and I loved every minute of it. thumb.gif

Calimama replied: I did all of them when I was little and REALLY enjoyed gymnastics and dance. I plan to put Bella in both!

Kaitlin'smom replied: Kaitlin LOVES gymnastics, she di dnot care for ballet as it was boring to her nad very repetivie, she already knew what they were teaching there for was board. I have worked with Kaitlin on swimming in our pool in the summer, she LOVES that as well, but I plan on sometime putting her into a more structured class. more than one activity is not overwheliming for Kaitlin, I cant answer for Jenna you know her best. My advice start with one and add if you feel she can handle more.

A&A'smommy replied: I was always WAY more of a dancer than anything else, Alyssa seems to really like dancing too we might start her here pretty soon
Gymnastics is good and great for motor skills and that kind of thing, dance not only teaches her a skill but also balance and in my classes we work on teaching them to REALLY listen along with learning other things. If its a good dance class then she will probably really enjoy it. You can always try one if she doesn't like it try something else ect.. I absolutly think you should ask her what she would like to do more give her an idea of what each is by showing her on the computer and then let her choose.

Brias3 replied: I personally think swimming is an essential one if Jenna is or will be around water alot. However, Aliyah LOVES LOVES LOVES dance.

MommyToAshley replied: I think it depends on the child. Ashley wants to try it all.. LOL.

She's in both dance and gymnastics. She will probably be taking swimming lessons in a few months, but I made her choose between soccer and swimming and she chose indoor soccer for now.

I completely agree with Jessica, gymnastics and dance are far apart when it comes to skill sets. Jenna may like one, but not the other. Gymnastics is great for large motor skills and very high energy. In dance, they must have a good attention span and be able to follow instructions. I started Ashley out with a rhythm and movement class and then she moved on to ballet and tap. She LOVES dance and it has always been her favorite (with the exception of the time we had a problem with the instructor). She is so excited that she gets to be Belle in her recital. That's another plus, you get to dress them up in the frilly costumes. wub.gif

I agree with Di too... let her try a few things out and see what she really likes.

mummy2girls replied: Well I asked Jenna and she said gymnastics.. i aske her again a few hours later and same thing... so gymnastics it is!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: Both Emily and Spencer loved swimming and still do. I wish we had kept going. Now Emily wants to play the piano and I've told DH to go ahead and let her do it.

michmom replied: My girls love dance classes.

A&A'smommy replied:
Good for her!!!! wub.gif

DansMom replied: I'm late with my vote for gymnastics---good choice! Daniel says he likes swimming more than gymnastics, but I found that he got more viruses, either due to the chlorine irritation or getting chilled, especially in winter. And I couldn't relax because of my own fears of drowning. In gymnastics, I can work out and watch his class simultaneously---it's wonderful. And he has a great time.
