Cutting in or Rolling?

C&K*s Mommie wrote: A silly and insignificant question, but I am just curious if you have a preference. Do you prefer to get the task of edging aka 'cutting in' around trim or the ceiling, etc. Or rolling paint along the walls?

I have been painting since Saturday and after a round of rolling the walls in the kitchen today I realized I do not care much for rolling paint. My arms get fatigued and the paint splatters into little dots everywhere. It is ridiculous I am sure to have a preference but I would much rather do the detail work of edging around the ceiling or trim than to roll paint onto the walls.

Do you have a preference at all?

Boo&BugsMom replied: Preference: rolling. I cut in around the corners and edging with a paintbrush which seems to take forever, then roll the entire wall/ceiling. You can buy splatter guards for the rollers.

grapfruit replied: roll for sure. I hate painting so much. I'm debating whether or not to paint my office. It's a stark WHITE. dry.gif But I have NO CLUE what colors. I'll be happy to take pictures and post them and get opinions. biggrin.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: I should also mention that when you use a roller, it's much faster and more efficient. Paint may splatter, but actually you will get more dripping from a paintbrush, PLUS it wont go on as thick with a brush and you will find yourself painting forever. Not to mention that paintbrushes leave lines many times, making it look uneven.

I prefer the rolling part myself. smile.gif I hate tedious (sp?) detailing. happy.gif

and she is a painting expert so I would listen to her, she paints everything in our house

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Should I mention Troy has been banned from painting anything but ceilings in our house? Even that is questionable. I think he does a lousy job on purpose to get out of it to be honest. dry.gif unsure.gif

TheOaf66 replied: not true, I am just better at grunt work I guess, not pretty stuff hence the nickname dear it is to detail oriented for me grace is not my strong suit

grapfruit replied: rolling_smile.gif you guys crack me up!

Our Lil' Family replied: I prefer rolling, I think it's fun actually.

JadensMama05 replied: I prefer edging. I like tedious detail work. LOL.

And Jennie & Troy - you guys are funny smile.gif

coasterqueen replied: Neither. tongue.gif DH is the painter in our family and I play dumb to the whole painting thing so he stays the painter in the family. biggrin.gif He tells me all the time I need to learn how, so I try a bit and then do such a terrible job wink.gif he bans me from doing it again. rolling_smile.gif There are some things IMO that should stay my hubby's job. cool.gif

ETA the times I've "tried" to paint, I've preferred rolling over cutting in, but overall I much prefer spraying....that was a ton of fun and messy. biggrin.gif

holley79 replied: I'm weird. I like both. emlaugh.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I love to paint, but I do like the trim work best. Scotty always laughs. He likes to watch me paint b/c I get so serious and quiet. tongue.gif Hey, it helps me think laugh.gif

PrairieMom replied: You can pick one or the other? around here I get both ends of the job, like it or not! laugh.gif

CantWait replied: I suck at cutting in. I don't understand how some people are so good at it. I get it all over where it shouldn't be. For that reason, I prefer to roll, and with the smallest roller possible emlaugh.gif If I can get away with it, I prefer none of it rolling_smile.gif
