Crab Rangoon - Wonton Wrappers and Canned Crab meat???
MotherForever2043 wrote: I don't know if anyone has had or made these before, but they are great! We usually order them from our local Chinese Restaraunt. Anyways, I wanted to TRY and make them. But, I don't know where I could find WonTon wrappers or Crab Meat. I know they're in the grocery store, I just don't know what aisle or area. The recipe I plan on using, calls for canned/imitation crab meat. Wonton wrappers I have no idea If anybody has made this before, and has any advice....it would be greatly appreciated. TIA
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Sams has the canned lump crab meat.
Wonton wrappers should be in the asian section of the grocery store. We have a ton of asian markets around here and that's where I get mine.
eta: the imitation crab is in the fresh seafood section of the market.
MotherForever2043 replied: Thanks so much! I'll go see if they have the stuff tomorrow
msoulz replied: Did you make these? How did they compare? Will you share your recipe? DH loves the things!!
grapfruit replied: I LOVE Crab Rangoons....but I hate imitation crab meat..... You'll have to tell us how they turned out, maybe all together it tastes good?
Maddie&EthansMom replied: most of the time crab rangoon doesn't even have crab in it.
grapfruit replied: That's like false advertisement!! There's a place that we used to get them from that made them by hand. You could watch them making them when you went to pick up your food. They were SO good....too bad they don't deliver to us 30 min away.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Yeah, what our local chinese place sells as crab rangoon is really a cream cheese mixture. Yuck.
MoonMama replied: I don't know if you've made them yet or not. But I have made them a few times too instead of ordering them, I use the fake crab meat, cream cheese, and the wonton wraps. I mix the crab meat and cream cheese (in my food processor), I also usually add a little minced garlic & sesame (sp) oil (VERY little sesame it goes a LONG way) , then and fill the wontons and cook. Let us know how yours turned out. I always get the wontons from a local asian markets too, but I have seen them in the produce section of all places at the grocery store, the refrigerated area.
Brias3 replied: Yep here too- its a cream cheese mixed with what appears to be a small amount of the imitation crab. It isn't bad, but it's not great either.
I've never tried making them myself, how did they turn out???
MoonMama replied: Same here. Which it why I like making them at home, then I can add the amount of crab meat I want them to have.
mom2my2cuties replied: You can get wonton wrappers in the produce (organic stuff) section at Walmart just before you hit the packaged fruit trays. It's with the packaged herbs and bean sprouts.
I am making some cheesecake wontons today
Same thing but instead of cream cheese & crab use prepared cheesecake filling..Yummy!
grapfruit replied: That does sound pretty amazing
Calimama replied: LOL Casey, do you feel jipped?
