Contaminated sample - argghh!

coasterqueen wrote: Megan has been having a lot of issues, we aren't for sure if diapers are causing her pain in "that" region or if she has a bladder/urinary tract infection or what exactly is the issue. She just complains of pain, constantly, down there. We took her to the doc, who gave us a cream, and wanted urine samples done on her. Of course since she won't use the potty we had to put that little baggy thing on her to get the sample, then pour it in the specimen cup. I did exactly that. I put the baggy directly on her, when she peed I washed my hands, took the baggy off her and poured the sample into the cup and left immediately for the doc's office. They are now telling me the sample has contaminents in it and need another sample. growl.gif I barely got her to wear that baggy thing to get the one that I did. How on earth am I supposed to get a sample that doesn't get contaminated. I was SO careful the 1st time, I can't imagine what to do the 2nd time to keep from that happening. This is SO frustrating. growl.gif growl.gif

luvmykids replied: Oh gosh, I never thought of having to get a sample from a child before they were pt wacko.gif Good luck this time hug.gif

MyBabeMaddie replied: That really sucks but keep trying you don't want them to have to straight cath her!

coasterqueen replied:
I know. They had to try that with Kylie when she was 2 months old. It was terrible.

MyBabeMaddie replied:
Awww that poor baby! I don't care what they say - IT HURTS!

amynicole21 replied: Nora had to be catheterized before - not fun. sad.gif I hope you can get an easy sample next time! Did they tell you to wipe first with whatever that cleanser stuff is? I just remember having to do that every time I gave a sample at the OB. blush.gif

momofone replied: I heard cranberry juice is good.

coasterqueen replied:
ohmy.gif No, they didn't give me anything to do that, but now that you mention it I remember having to do that when giving samples. Arrgghhhh! I guess I'll ask when I go to pick up a new specimen bottle. growl.gif

Thanks for letting me know that. thumb.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: hug.gif sorry you have to do a repet hopefully it will go better this time

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: hug.gif Ugh, what a PITA Karen. I hope next time goes better for you. hug.gif KUP on what they say is the problem.

redchief replied: Oh, man, getting a specimen from a boy in diapers is hard enough. I don't remember ever having to do that with one of the girls, but it has to be a nightmare!

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: our doctors office wont do the .little bags when they suspect a UTI. they said there is just no way to not have it show contaminated. Johnny had to be cathed 5 or 6 times back in October and November before during and after he was in the hospital.

A&A'smommy replied: Yikes that sucks!!! hug.gif hug.gif

Calimama replied: I hope this time it works better! hug.gif hug.gif

MoonMama replied: I hope it works this time, that sucks! hug.gif

CantWait replied: Better luck next time Karen. hug.gif

MommyToAshley replied: I have been lucky, the one time that Ashley did need a urine sample, I was able to get it directly in the cup. But, I seem to remember the ped's office having those disposable plastic trays that you put on the potty and they pee in that and then you transfer to the cup.... I wonder if you office has something like that? Or is that what you were referring to with the bag? Sorry, not much help. I hope you are able to get a sample without having to have a cath done.

mckayleesmom replied:
that is what I always thought they would use for kids.

holley79 replied: Is there anyway to bribe her into tinkling in the cup?

coasterqueen replied:
laugh.gif Not this kid. There's NOTHING she'd accept as a bribe. This kid is DIFFICULT. tongue.gif

holley79 replied:
Bless your heart. What about having her run around nakee and hope to catch her tting. emlaugh.gif
