Clothes that say "handwash"

ilovemybaby wrote: Do you hand wash all of them? To be honest, I don't want to spend my time handwashing clothes and I do have the time... I just don't want to spend it doing handwashing. mad.gif So I stick almost everything that says to handwash in the washing machine on the delicate cycle.
Abby was given a jumper for her birthday (the one she is wearing in the siggy) and it says hand wash mad.gif Not to sound ungrateful but why do people have to give her stuff that needs handwashing?! It's not like I don't have enough of it already. Especially in Winter when she wears all her woollen jumpers. Well, I stuck it into the washing machine. Too da*n bad if it gets wrecked. I stuck it in a laundry bag on the woollens cycle (which is delicate). It's made of that Chenelle type wool. I'm just not in the mood for handwashing. blush.gif

kimberley replied: lol i stopped handwashing years ago. i just put them on the gentle cycle in the wash and hang or lay flat dry. wink.gif

ilovemybaby replied: Glad I'm not the only one! I'm just a bit nervous about this jumper but hopefully it won't wreck it. I used to have a jumper made from Chenelle or something similar and it totally fell apart after I put it in the washing machine.
I once put a woollen jumper in the machine that my mum knitted and it put holes in it. I never told her blush.gif It's just really surprising how much woollens a baby will go through in just one week. I ended up giving up on handwashing real fast LOL Fortunately nothing other than that jumper has been wrecked in the washing machine.

My3LilMonkeys replied:
dito.gif I have never handwashed or sent anything to the drycleaners and I have yet to ruin anything.

kimberley replied: wash cold and do NOT put in the dryer. that is where problems come. delicates (like bras and underwear), put in a pillow case and tie tight. you should not have any problems. hug.gif btw, i have washed many chenille blankets and sweaters this way with no probs. hope your jumper is ok.

ilovemybaby replied: Yeah I do wash cold and don't put in the dryer. And I put this jumper in a laundry bag! laugh.gif So it should be ok.

PrairieMom replied:
I thought that was what "hand wash" meant! rolling_smile.gif

holley79 replied: I always put them in the washing machine on delicate. I try not to buy ANYTHING that says handwash. I mainly buy wash and wear. LOL

Edward's Mommy replied:
I've handwashed things that were machine washable. I just didn't have to money to use the washing machine in our apartment building and I don't have a car...and no money. I have spent many an afternoon doing nothing but handwashing clothes and finding places in my small apartment to hang everything to dry. It's hard work, but I've never valued a washing machine more!! laugh.gif

Nina J replied: I hardly ever read the label blush.gif If things look more delicate, I just wash them on gentle. I only read the label if it's expensive blush.gif

Just wash it on gentle, or if your worried about it just put it in cold water with detergent mixed in and let it soak for awhile, it should get it clean. But gentle should be alright, you can always check on it to make sure it isn't falling apart.

ilovemybaby replied: Well I just thought I'd let you know that the jumper was absolutely fine in the washing machine! I think my handwashing days are over! laugh.gif

Edwards mommy - that would suck sad.gif It would make you really appreciate a washing machine though. I really appreciated the dryer my sister gave us second hand. Man... I use that quite often. I remember when we never had one ... it was really hard to get anything dry in Winter.

MyLuvBugs replied: I think I only have 2 things that I still handwash and I dont' wear them that often. (Swim Suit and a camisole that goes with 1 outfit I never wear). rolleyes.gif Everything else get's thrown in the machine. Bras...I have a little baggie that I put them in and then throw them in the wash with the rest of the clothes. I dont' even bother with gentle cycle ususally. laugh.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I don't handwash things that say handwash only unless it's something that I REALLY don't want ruined. I don't think I've ever had anything bad happen so far. wink.gif If you have a handwash setting on your machine and you put it in a little garment bag it should be fine. thumb.gif

Cece00 replied: I DO NOT handwash. I dont have enough time to handwash stuff. I also dont bring "Dry Clean Only" to the cleaners....I wash in the machine on gentle or medium and then air dry & press if need be.

na81 replied: I agree with the others, gentle cycle-cold-and air dry, everything should be fine!

ilovemybaby replied: I've never put bras, underwear or socks into a laundry bag. I just stick them in with everything else. blush.gif I have lost some socks and booties because of this. One day I'll have to figure out how to get them out. laugh.gif blush.gif

Brias3 replied: I don't always abide the rules. Some "handwash only" items I will just put in with a couple other like items or by themselves on the delicate cycle. Even some "dry clean only" things I will handwash instead.

luvmykids replied: I just save them up until I have a load, do the delicate cycle, and use woolite.
