Also...my mom has a beautiful picture of a woman breastfeeding that I have already claimed dibs on when she dies. I have always loved it and she has had it since before I was born.

gr33n3y3z replied: I wish ppl. would get over themselves and get a life

mckayleesmom replied: Also, I don't know any man in this world that would have given that boob a second glance....or been offended by it. Its not showing enough for a guy to want to see..... laugh.gif, but that is just my opinion.... laugh.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: Geesh! rolleyes.gif

iagree.gif

Good that the editors were not discouraged by the backlash of people being offending by a natural thing such as a child nursing.

redchief replied:
3 glances here. But I wasn't offended on any of my glances. cool.gif

luvmykids replied: I love that picture, and anyone who finds it remotely sexual IMHO has a screw loose!

mckayleesmom replied: I just made Leithan come over and look at it and asked "are you offended"....and he said "of what? it is a baby magazine"

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
huh.gif Exactly!
rolleyes.gif Enough is enough with all this "being offended by breast feeding", it's not like it's a new thing that just started happening!

MommyToAshley replied:

How very true.... why isn't there more outcry about sexual content in movies and shows and on the front of magazines... instead there is an out pour against breastfeeding? I don't get it. It's a baby magazine... what's wrong with a pic that depicts breastfeeding? mad.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: the ppl. who seem to only be offended are the woman lol
who are prudes

mammag replied:
That's a very good point. You would see as much on the cover of many a men's magazine showing a half dressed woman. Why when it is the side half instead of the top half of the breast and it is being used for what it was meant, do people get in an uproar??

Lynda836 replied: I had no idea there were people who still react like that....I guess just because any time I've breastfed (in public) I've had nothing but positive rxns. It's funny though...you could have a magazine cover and the woman could be half naked but covering the nipple area, and no one blinks an eye. But cover the area with a baby's mouth....and OMG....there's a news conference. Really....when are people going to get over themselves.

paradisemommy replied: OMG..that article just makes me livid.. mad.gif

Jackie012007 replied: I get BabyTalk in the mail and let me tell you, that issue was SOOOO informative and helpful... especially to me, being an impending new mother and wanting to breastfeed but being a little nervous about it. I love that picture, I think it is beautiful... and if you didn't read the Babytalk issue or the article, the magazine put that picture on the cover on purpose to illicit response, and they even polled reader of the magazine, asking them if the cover was offensive... something like 54% of the READERS said yes!!!

I kept it on my coffee table and I am forever having people over and no one seemed to mind! Many people need to get over their Victorian ideals of sex and taboo... for god's sake it's a BABY feeding, there is nothing sexual about it and if someone sees something arousing or disturbing in that picture, they are SICK! mad.gif

MichaelsMommy replied: I'm not a breastfeeder, never have been never will.. I was not offended or worried about my husband or daughters seeing it... there is no nipple for gosh sakes. I did post this article on another forum I go to and of course it caused a big fight - as stuff like this always tends to do. Some people prefer not to see it I guess. Someone brought up (take this with a grain of salt) that poopy diapers is 'natural' and part of parenting - but they wouldn't put that on the cover. rolleyes.gif Kinda a point.. but a whole different topic... whatever.

Funny side note - I got this mag at home and had it out on my desk.. Michael (my almost 2yr old) came and pointed to the picture and said 'Mmmmmmmm!' My dh and I were rolling laughing "How would YOU know?!?!"

CantWait replied:

So true.

Unfreakingreal. I can't believe how unreal people can be.

Geez all I can say about that cover is, I wish I had boobs that big rolling_smile.gif

3_call_me_mama replied: I was so excited when i got that magazine in the mail. I showed it to DH right away. and we both were liek "about time someone had the decency to put a true to life articel and information and PHOTO about natural child feeding choices in a regualr magazine." People that were disgusted really have other issues IMO> I think the articles were very informative adn helpful especially to moms that want to ask questions and get help to successfully breastfeed but don't knwo where to go for the info. Plus it was wonderful to see it in a mainstream magazine cause some women really aren't aware that it IS a natural feeding choice and they shouldn't be ashamed or disgusted by it. IMO breasts were given to women for one purpose, and it wasn't sexual.

CantWait replied:
Jackie, I'm glad that article helped you. It goes to show exactly why the editors wrote it etc. Good luck on bf and hope it works well for you. wub.gif

kimberley replied: rolleyes.gif these people "offended" really need to get a grip on their insecurities rolleyes.gif kudos to the magazine for the article and the picture! thumb.gif

Nina J replied: It's just beyond me as to why some people fine it offensive. It's human nature, lambs do it, calfs do it, babies do it.

You can't even see anything. I see more skin showing in gossip magazines, some of the things they publish borders on soft core pornography..why not get horrified at that, and accept nature.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I don't understand how anyone could find that offensive. dunno.gif

I asked DH what he thought of it and he agreed with me. He said there's no nipple showing, so it's just skin like the rest of the body!

Brias3 replied: The whole "support of breastfeeding" thing is ridiculous....why should women be wondering if they'll be "supported" in a decision that is clearly theirs? Shouldn't we all be able to do WHAT we want, WHEN we want to do it? It's ridiculous! I feel bad for mothers trying to currently breastfeed due to all the uproar lately....what a pity that something so natural become a topic with such negative light shed on it.

Everyone who wrote into the magazine opposing that photo needs to get a life or find a new magazine to read if they don't like it.

msoulz replied: I do breastfeed, but I am not a fanatic by any means. We all have to do what we think is right for us and our families.

That said, I too find it bizarre that there is such an uproar about the magazine. That's why the mammary glands are on our bodies after all (just looking at parts and their functions). Our society (the US anyway) is so sex obsessed that this is what happens. Bizarre, I say. dry.gif

luvbug00 replied: I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I would NOT be thrilled by a cover like that. I didn't breast feed and I tried to but not only was I told I couldn't and shouldn't ( which i later found out may or may not have been true..) it's just not my thing, It felt wierd to me and I didn't like it at all. I am Glad and encurrage woman who do breast feed and I am not offended by a baby feeding as God intended them to. BUT i see no reason To blow it up and put it on a magazine cover. it's just not somthing I want to see either. It's like when woman whip out their boobs in public to breastfeed I can look away from most public breastfeeding and I do. But this, is like, you can't look away except to rip off the cover. Btw I see nothing sexual about this photo or live BF. I just see no reason why I need to have it thrown in peoples faces that's all.

TheOaf66 replied: some people have to much time on their hands if that is the best thing they have to complain about rolleyes.gif

jcc64 replied: I really want to understand the other side, but I just can't. I believe the people interviewed in the article said all there is to be said on the issue. There IS a real Puritanical streak in this country, as well as a perverted sense of what context is acceptable for a breast to be seen in. I saw more overexposed boobs on the beach this w/e than I witnessed on that magazine cover, and they weren't being used in service to a child, believe me.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I don't get it either...I mean honestly, when one pops out on the Red Carpet it gets replayed on the news for weeks laugh.gif And how many naked barely of age girls are going to be on the cover of Rolling Stone with well placed beany babies rolleyes.gif Give me a break people! blink.gif It is a breast I wonder if the same people will be yelling the next time a Boob is on the cover of Maxim? Somehow I doubt it! dry.gif rolleyes.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: I agree about the whole sex on tv arguement and all that. Before they get livid about something like this, they need to do something about the commercialized trash in the entertainment industry first. I don't think I'd be "thrilled" and jumping for joy about the magazine if I got it, but I wouldn't have thought much of it. It's a baby feeding, oh well. That's what babies do. happy.gif I can also see what Happymom is saying though too. I guess it all depends on how you look at it.

A couple we are friends with came to a restaurtant with us awhile back (Brian and Jen, if you are reading this honey). They have a baby. In the resturant the mom was breastfeeding her little one at the table while we chatted. I saw no big deal about it. I didn't even care. She was discreet about it though too, and I think that is out of respect to others which I appreciated, especially considering we have a 4 year old boy who is very curious and who was with us. Perhaps it wouldn't have gotten so much attention if the picture was a little more discreet? I dunno. dunno.gif I wouldn't have cared much about it if I got the magazine. I think the picture was at least done tastefully. It could have been much more graphic. Personally, I think there are more important things this world needs to worry about instead of a darn magainze cover of something that's not even explicit. rolleyes.gif

My2Beauties replied: Completely and totally a dumb thing to be offended over. I mean it's a woman BF'ing - honestly I think society should be more worried about the high prices of crude oil, the war over in the Middle East, child molestors, homocides, the violence on regular television and the internet, not a woman BF'ing! People really need to get a life. I can't see how someone can be offended by that I mean it's skin for pete's sake. I think the pic is gorgeous.
