Boden needs prayer! - Found out bad news yesterday(VSD)

We were not worried casue Dh has one and so do some of his other family members that casue them no problems and were thinking that is all it was. Well Boden's doctor had the EKG and stuff sent to a speacialist and they called me yesterday saying that Boden has Ventricular Septal defect. A hole in his heart. Now depending on the size they can grow shut on there own. The larger the slimmer of this happening I guess. Boden has a large hole. We go into to see the speacialist on the 26th and untill then I am to watch out for symptoms like him turning blue or breathing very fast countinuely. They said that they uselly don't show any signs with a large hole untill they are a couple weeks old to a couple months old. I am not sure what they are going to do, whatthe options are at this point. He may need surgrey to repair it. I will know more then. If anyone has dealt with this at all please let me know. Here are some pcs of my baby boy. I don;t know what I'd do if anything happened to him.

I do not have any experience with VSD personally but knew a woman who's middle son was born with it, He is now 17 yrs old and seems well. Only yearly visits to the cardiologist for him.

I don't have experience with it personally, but my boss' son had this. It just finally grew closed, he's 8 years old. They just had to always watch him and he couldn't get infections, had to be monitored with sickness, etc.

party-of-six replied: My cousin had a set of twins. One was born with a large hole in his heart. They had no choice but to do the surgery. When they went in he had not one, but TWO holes. They did the surgery when he was 6 months old. He was standing up in his crib later that day when the adults who also underwent open heart surgery were still in need of sedation. He was home in no time. Other than the scar on his chest, you would never ever know looking at him and his identical twin who had the surgery and who did not.

My almost-18 month old DD has VSD & ASD (Atrial Septal Defect), 2 holes in her heart. She will need open heart surgery in the spring or summer as long as she is doing OK. Her VSD is a small one, but her ASD is a medium-to-large one. The Dr.'s didn't catch it until she was 15 months old, at her well baby visit. He heard a murmur he's never heard before. He also said that she is fine, with no restrictions on her activity, but to watch out for turning blue/breathing troubles.

I'll try to attach a picture that I drew of where Kayla's holes are. This still all new to me, so I wish I could offer more helpful information.

jcc64 replied: My middle ds (now almost 10) had a VSD that was detected when he was around 3 weeks old. I was panicked, much like you are, and every other parent would be. We were sent to a pediatric cardiologist, there were many tests and much anxiety, but we were put in a wait and see mode. Eventually, his hole closed up on his own. My niece had the exact same thing, and hers' closed on its own as well.
As difficult as it is to remain calm around any issue concerning your baby, try to realize that this is a fairly common problem, and even in the worst case scenario, the prognosis is usually very good. The chances of your child coming through this fine are excellent.

danahas4monkeys replied: hi, my prayers are with you and your baby. my son jordan has 2 vsd's he is now 9 we found out when he was 2wks old. they are both very small holes that have never caused any problems his didnt ever close but they are also not affecting him. the only precaution we have to take is he has to take antibiotics before any dental work, i hope your little guy doesnt have to have surgery, sorry you are going through this!

My oldest son was born with a VSD and seizures. He came home with a heart monitor which helped us all to sleep easier. For the first year we were at the doctors frequently. He went to have it checked when he was 5 and it had closed, which is what the doctors thought would happen. He is now almost 7 and is healthy and into sports. I hope that Boden's is small enough that it will close on its own. to you and your family.

God is going to take care of him . We see the Speacialist on the 26th so i will keep you posted on what is going on with that. Thank you again!!
