Blech... I'm sick :o( - and so mad at my boss!!!

~Roo'sMama~ wrote: I have strep throat. sad.gif I haven't had it since I was a kid and it feels worse than I remember it. dry.gif

I'm soooo frustrated with my boss and the people I work with - I work in a nursing home, and at every infection control inservice and orientation thing I've ever been to there, they drill into your head that if you are sick and contagious you are not to come in. But if you try to call in, my boss will tell you that if you can't find a replacement you have to come to work. huh.gif This girl I worked with last weekend tried calling in on sunday morning because she had strep and was still contagious, and they told her she had to come in. She tried calling pple to work for her but of course it was sunday so nobody would work - and she came in and now I have it and I'm so friggin mad! mad.gif If I had known she had it I would have called her and begged her not to come in... working by myself would have been no biggie. (I work in a house setting on the nursing home campus with 10 residents and only 2 staff members at a time) I'm not really mad at her - my boss probably would have written her up if she hadn't come to work.
Anyways sorry this got so long... I just needed to vent! I was going to call my boss today and complain about her policy going against the NH's policy but I slept all afternoon. blush.gif

A&A'smommy replied: OMG what a jerk of a boss that is SOO dangerous to the elderly and NOT fun to the other workers. I hope you feel better soon, that SUCKS that your sick!!! sad.gif

ediep replied: that is horrible!!! I would be so mad too!! Hope you feel better soon!

Kaitlin'smom replied: mad.gif ooo that woudl make me mad. I had strp earlier this year and when I got back from the doc and told the boss he sent me home and told me to take the next day off, send Kaitlin to the sitters and rest. No way would I work in a nursing home sick like that.....I woul dtake the wight up and the protest it, as long as i had a docs note

MommyToAshley replied: mad.gif smash.gif On your boss! I get so mad when I read these kinds of stories. Where do they get these "bosses" from?

Hope you are feeling better soon. grouphug.gif Get some rest!

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Thanks wink.gif If I can get enough courage up, I'll try talking to my boss about it... I have the tendency to cave in when I have the chance to say something and it usually ends up sounding pretty lame. rolleyes.gif I just hope none of the residents got sick. sad.gif

favre4fan replied: Don't they realize we are more productive when we are healthy!!! geez wacko.gif

momof2girls replied: I got strep when I was pg, I felt like I was dying!

My Dr wrote me a note to stay out for 3 days, and my boss did not want me coming in getting others sick....

I just cant beleive how some people become bosses!!!

I think you should speak up, someone has to!

Josie83 replied: Haven't the foggiest what a strep throat is (faming language barriers - and its the same language!!) but I hope you feel better soon. Your boss sounds like a bum biscuit. Sending get well vibes!! xx

MomofJandB replied: I feel so bad for you and for the residents! They've been exposed twice in a week!!! That can't be good! What an idiot your boss is! You would think a boss of a nursing home setting would know better. He should be written up!

Hope you are feeling better soon!

My2Beauties replied: Isnt that illegal in some sort of way? My boss is the same way, as youc an tell from other posts she doesn't care if your unborn child died (still born)!! Sorry I'm still venting about that!!!

kimberley replied: dry.gif that is completely irresponsible of her! not only are staff members at risk, but you are dealing with the elderly, who, if stricken with infection, could very well die!!!! i would certainly go straight over her head and complain to whoever will hear me until something is done about it.

i do hope you are better soon. grouphug.gif

kimberley replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif LOLOLOLOL! bum biscuit... too funny!!

Strep throat is an infection caused by the Streptococcus pyogenes (strep) Group A bacteria. The strep bacteria is found in an infected person's saliva. The infection spreads through the air when the infected person talks, coughs or sneezes. The spread of infection can be stopped by treating the infected person with an antibiotic. People with strep throat often have a fever and complain of sore throat, headache and stomachache. They may also have swollen, tender glands in the neck, or sores around the nose. Scarlet fever, a rare form of strep infection, is characterized by a sore throat, more general symptoms, such as fatigue, and a red rash on the body that feels like sandpaper. Some people can get very serious complications, such as rheumatic fever, and acute glomerulonephritis, if the infection is not treated completely with antibiotics.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: ohmy.gif OMG that is just terrible! My mother works in a nursing home and they have told her the same thing, if you are contagious stay home! I can't believe your boss would make her come to work, that's awful! I'm sorry you are sick, I hope you feel better soon! grouphug.gif

Josie83 replied:
Thanx for clearing that up! It sounds horrible . . . get well soon sara! xx

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
LOL bum biscuit rolling_smile.gif Kimberly did a good job defining strep throat - all I could tell you is it makes your throat hurt really bad and I'd rather have the flu. wink.gif I am feeling better though... my doctor put me on amoxicillin and it seems to be helping. It makes me nauseous though... just what I need!! tongue.gif blink.gif

coasterqueen replied: Oh that is awful! I'd be p'oed!!!! Sorry you are sick and hope you feel better soon grouphug.gif.
