Been watching CNN... - not sure what I think!

punkeemunkee'smom wrote: I don't know what the deal is with this sick-o that says he killed Jon Benet unsure.gif wacko.gif growl.gif It sounds like there is much more to this story...His ex-wife says he was with her on the day that poor baby was murdered. I am also confused because he was not a neighbor in Colorado but in Alabama where they lived before huh.gif I hope they get to the bottom of the whole story but the D.A. does not sound too sure of the outcome of this case. It all sounds very strange to me sad.gif I hope they nail this guy anyway!!! He is a convicted pedafile and is obviously seeking children to be around since he was teaching again in Thialand growl.gif

mckayleesmom replied: Well...this wouldn't be the first time they were sure of a persons guilt in this case and it led to nothing.....I agree though....Put him away, he has no business praying on children.

coasterqueen replied: I have not read alot about the story as of lately, but was he picked up in Thailand for something else before confessing to the murder? I was thinking that if that's the case of course he's going to confess to something here in the states. The penalty for the crimes here in the states are a lot less horrible than in other countries. Isn't the punishments in Thailand a LOT more harsh?

mckayleesmom replied:
they probably chop something off.... rolleyes.gif Maybe we should start that too.... laugh.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: The DA admitted to having more work to do on this. But for now he is off the streets and away from small children.

This is what I am confused on: His father told The Denver Post that while Karr was in college as an adult, a professor encouraged him to write a book about the Ramsey case after being impressed with a school paper.

"He researched everything he could about her," Wexford Karr said
From FoxNews.com

Even after her death he was fascinated by her. huh.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied:
Karen, Bill and I said the same thing lastnight! They still do some pretty horrific things to people in Thialand especially those who pray on children...My sister just went there and she was telling me some of the things that she heard. Not that in cases like this I disagree with severe punishment but I wonder if this whacko knew that this case was high profile enough that it would get him back to the USA dry.gif Although I believe they were looking at him because he had made some illusions to the fact that he knew what happened to Jon Benet on the internet to a reporter...Time will tell I suppose. unsure.gif

MichaelsMommy replied: You'd think since the guy basically confessed it would be a done deal?

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I live in this state and I have yet to turn the tube on to watch any of it! It makes me sick to my stomach. I went to the store today and it was all over the radio! I can't bare to listen really. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to hear that they have caught the SOB who pleaded guilty to the crime, but I can't rest until it's all said and done, which I have a feeling it isn't, unfortunately. The media is sure gobbling it up and turning it's nasty twists on the story. bawling.gif Poor child.

stella6979 replied:
Unfortunately, things are not always that cut and dry.

mckayleesmom replied:
Its never a done deal based on a confession because many times people are coersed into confessing by police. Also....You would be suprised by the number of false confessions they get by people with mental illness's.

C&K*s Mommie replied: This is my understanding of that.
But (Mary) Lacy suggested that the arrest may have been forced by other circumstances, including the need for public safety and fear the suspect might flee.

"There are circumstances that exist in any case that mandate an arrest before an investigation is complete,"
"I'm asking you this morning, let us do our job thoroughly and carefully. The analysis of the evidence in this case continues on a day-by-day, on an hour-by-hour basis as we speak," she said, adding that "there is much more work to be done now that the suspect is in custody."

"We should all heed the poignant advice of John Ramsey yesterday," she said, referring to JonBenet's father. "He said do not jump to conclusions, do not rush to judgment, do not speculate, let the justice system take its course."

coasterqueen replied:
I had heard on the radio on the way to work mention the hotel he was staying at was the kind of place that rents by the hour, not a very nice neighborhood, lots of crime happening in that place, etc. They insinuated that he was doing something he shouldn't have there as well. But that's the media saying that.

It just seems odd, the whole thing does to me.

boyohboyohboy replied: I was watching the "early show" this am, and they hinted that this sicko might just be infatuated with the little girl, and want to have some "fame" and may be saying he did it just to get the attention. They said they want to wait to see if he matches any of the DNA.
They also had the same lawyers from that case on, Barry schek (?) and he said he wasnt so sure that this guy wasnt just really delusional, he also admitted to some other gruesome crime they are checking into.
I hope if its him they put him away forever, or worse...I keep thinking about that poor mother, that she died before her dgts killer was caught, and that she was never able to know who did it.
If he is lying I hope he is greatly punished for putting the father thru this.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Ya, like $8/hr or $170 something a month.

jcc64 replied: I recall reading that he was wanted by the state of California prior to this latest allegation for possession or solicitation of child pornography. I don't believe he can be tried according to the laws of Thailand b/c the crimes were commited here. He's staying in a seedy area known to be frequented by "sex tourists" who can easily procure the services of very very young girls and boys, many of whom are sold into sexual slavery and who will never be a pressing concern for the local authorities. It's tragic that there are many JonBenets over there and elsewhere whose names and stories we will never know b/c they were not wealthy, attractive white children.
I am not certain if this guy had anything to do with the infamous murder, but it's clear his predilections are deviant and dangerous to children, all children. I'm glad they snagged him, either way.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Abbie I'm right there with you. It doesn't make sense...none of it adds up.

I was thinking this very thing while I was on the treadmill watching the news this morning. I mean, how often does this happen and WHY is JonBenet's case so important and plastered all over the news? I hate that it happened to her or ANY child, but you hit the nail on the head.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I agree wholeheartedly too.

Nina J replied: Since some people are sensitive to certain things, I made the below paragraph white. Highlight it to read, if you want to. It contains things about rape and the way JonBenét died.

I have my doubts. I read Perfect Murder, Perfect Town: JonBenét and the city of Boulder awhile ago, Karr says JonBenét died of an overdose of Cholorform or something, yet the autopsy states she died of strangulation. He also claims it was an accident. Yet, the way she was strangled shows that whoever killed her had to tighten the rope, and turn her over to make sure she was dead. That doesn't sound accidental to me.
He also claims he raped her, yet the autopsy states some of her hymen is intact. If a grown man raped a six year old, you would expect something very different. Just my thoughts.

I agree, there are many children out there who have died, yet they didn't get the media attention. Why? The media is selective. Is a story of a six year old poor girl who was murdered going to sell? Nope. Was a story of a young girl who competed in pageants, came from a wealthy family, and was murdered on Christmas going to sell. Yes. I blame the media.

One thing that annoys me is that the media makes the whole pageant thing out to be more than it was. She competed in 9 pageants, or so I've read. And, from pictures I've seen, JonBenét didn't have as much make-up on as you see on pageant kids these days. JMO.

kit_kats_mom replied: I haven't kept up with the jonbenet info. I'm hope whoever killed her is caught....however I totally agree with the media comments. Did you know that the whole Hezbolla/Israel thing has totally stopped? At least I thought it had. I didnt hear anything about the conflict that had been filling my news in the last few days. JonBenets news has taken over. Makes me sick

Nina J replied: I read the Israel/Lebanon/Hezbollah war had stopped. Yet, they show nothing about the relief efforts to help rebuild.

The media makes me sick sometimes. Sure, some things sell more than others, but the way they go overboard isn't right. They can still talk about the Ramsey case, but what about other important global problems? There would be room to fit everything.

But, I think it's just the way things are. The media has a story they can sensationalize, and a story most people are going to read out of curiosity. The war in the middle east is so complicated that some people don't read about it because they can't get past the jargon. Thats what I think anyway.

Unfortunatly, alot of things in this world come down to one simple thing, money.

jcc64 replied: This is getting a little OT, but the discussion's heading into an interesting area- how the media decides for us what's important- or does it? B/c we love to blame the media- I just did it myself- but the media is first and foremost- a business. If the middle east conflict sold airspace and garnered sensational ratings, trust me- they'd cover it. This all came to light for me during the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. There probably isn't a person in this country that couldn't recite every lurid detail about that affair- the semen on the blue Gap dress, where and how the trysts took place- I mean- was this information vital to our national interests? Was it going to alter the course of our nation? No, but it was salacious and sleazy and everybody can make sense out of the mechanics of a b.j. Not so with complex foreign policy or domestic problems that require more than a sound bite's worth of grey matter. Lots of us are lazy, and would prefer to pay attention to some trashy but easily digestible story because it doesn't require much effort on our part to understand it. Myself included, sometimes.
The media is basically serving up what we ask for. Once upon a time, journalism used to be more of a sacred calling- a responsibility- a vital part of a healthy democracy- and the people who participated in it understood that on some level. Somewhere along the way, for many reasons, the media became primarily a business- maybe with all of those corporate media mergers in the 80's, but also with the advent of cable news. Now business interests dictate what gets covered, b/c predictably, there orientation is the financial bottom line. If JonBenet sells more ad space, that's what we see. If Hezbellah/Lebanon/Israel did, it would be the other way around. But in the end, if we dont' watch, they don't put it on. Our hands are dirty too, is all I'm saying. Look at us- how many more discussions have we had here on our own board about JonBenet vs the middle east conflict in the last few days?

luvbug00 replied: Oh I saw several shows about her death and the way she died was deffinately somone consiously afixiating her. If she was coraformed then I hope when she was unconcious at her grusome loss of her life. That poor child. This whole thing has me wondering why? why do some parents think all the make-up is still ok? Why is making beauty a contest still ok?? Anyway I don't hink he did it. I think he wants a way to tell his sick stories but I still have doubts it was him.

Nina J replied: Very insightful Jeanne. It really makes me think more about everything, rather than making it all a one man blame game (towards the media). Hmm..my brain is having to much to think about laugh.gif

And, I agree with you Nadia wink.gif
