Babysitters.... - do you feed them?

Our Lil' Family wrote: We are leaving Thomas tonight for the first time with a paid sitter and I told DH I need to order a pizza for her. He thought I was crazy! I told him that I was always fed when I babysat, maybe not delivered pizza but there was always something for me (and usually the kids-unless they were fed) to eat. We're feeding Thomas because he eats before she'll get here, but do you make sure your sitter has something to eat? I mean the girl will be here from 6:30-9...she's gotta eat dinner!

Boo&BugsMom replied: No, we don't, but we always let them know they can eat whatever is in the house.

TheOaf66 replied:
works good for us since there never is anything laugh.gif

I always tell them to eat whatever's in the house, but if by chance we don't have anything, I always order pizza. smile.gif

skinkybaby replied: I've never had to use a sitter (thank you grandparents!), but if I did I'd make sure there was something for them to eat in the house.

Ellie replied: I always leave snack stuff on the counter and tell her to help herself to anything (well anything but the liquor cabinet wink.gif)

CantWait replied: If she's there at 6:30 she has plenty of time to have dinner before coming over. I would make sure there are snacks, but I don't think you have to go as far as ordering pizza.

Our Lil' Family replied: Well she's coming straight from work and we don't have much other than snacks in the house so I figure I'll treat her right and maybe she'll end up being a great babysitter for a long time! She's 16 so I still have a few years out of her before other things become too important!! wink.gif

stella6979 replied:
Offering dinner is a very nice gesture. I'm sure she'll appreciate it. smile.gif

1lilpeanut2love replied: I think you should do the pizza. IMHO that sounds awesome. I am sure the sitter will appreciate it too!!! thumb.gif

cameragirl21 replied:
i agree entirely. i think when it comes to leaving your kids in someone else's care, spending an extra 10 bucks or so for pizza is so worth it...it's hard to get a really good and loyal babysitter, especially a teenager!

moped replied: I would always feed them, but have only had 2 babysitters.....

MM'sMama replied: I have never had to leave the kids with a sitter outside of family thank goodness. But I would leave snacks or dinner etc.

sparkys2boys replied: This is how I look at it, if you trust her enough to leave her in chage.. then treat her like gold and your right she may be the best sitter ever!!! And once you have found one you try to do everything possible to get her to stay with you!!!! And who do you think she is more likely to sit for.. the ok people that don't treat her, or the people that do and make her feel like you wan t her there!!!

redchief replied: We've always made sure our children and our sitter had a meal.

luvmykids replied: Back in my babysitting days I was in high demand laugh.gif and gave priority to the parents who made it more enjoyable for me....easy dinner for the kids AND me, snacks, paid well, etc.

holley79 replied: I ate like a queen when I was baby sitting. emlaugh.gif I use to give priority to those who treated me very well for taking care of thier kids. blush.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: Well she was VERY appreciative and kept saying, "You didn't have to do that" so I'm glad I did. Plus we ended up going to see a movie as well which put us home at midnight so I'm glad I did that for her. Thomas did SO well for her, never even as much as pouted and went to bed without a hitch! So $30 and 1/2 a pizza later I think she was a happy camper!

A&A'smommy replied: well I have never HAD to but I would if it was that time of day or evening... I was always fed too!!

punkeemunkee'smom replied:
Hey let me know when you need a sitter next time! rolling_smile.gif I had to work for $30! A good kid AND a pizza-you probably have yourself a loyal one now! wink.gif rolling_smile.gif I am glad things went so well! thumb.gif What movie did you go see?

Our Lil' Family replied: I hope I have a loyal sitter, she loves Thomas and he loves her too.

We saw Saw III....but we should have seen that Borjat or something movie.

boyohboyohboy replied: I totally agree if you can find a good loyal sitter you trust then treat her like gold as someone said.
I used to babysit all the time and was in high demand, and if it was dinner time when I was to be there, they fed me dinner too, and always had tons of snacks.

I used to sit for this one couple that had 7 kids! It was a "hers" and " his" and "ours" kinda situation, the youngest was 9 months and the oldest was 9yrs. it was chaos. They paid me $60 and picked me up and took me home. althought they divorced so that gig didnt last long....

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We ALWAYS buy our sitter pizza! One time I bought one of those "bake it yourself" pizzas from Walmart, but we usually just leave some money and have her order one herself.

Our Lil' Family replied: Today at church the mom of the girl that babysat came to find me to tell me Thank You for treating her daughter so well Friday night!!! She said we went above and beyond and was so thankful that we were so great to her "baby"!!! How sweet was that?! I'm so glad now that I treated her well, it's so nice to have such a great babysitter with such a supportive family!!!
