Baby sunscreen - anyone know of any?

Brias3 replied: I'd check with your ped- I honestly forget. I do know that I still am partial to using the Hawaiian Tropic Baby Faces sunblock- it seems to be much more gentle than other child sunscreens.
Bamamom replied: My ped recommends that you NOT use it under six months.
Calimama replied: Mine too. That was always an issue with us.
Nina J replied: You can get special sunscreen for babys. Why would you expose your infant to the suns rays without protection? I don't know your climate, but I would not take my baby outside in the summertime here without sunscreen. And it is not practical to have them fully covered because it is just to hot. I never got told to not put sunscreen on babys, but I always used the baby one.
I guess though, it depends on the intensity of the UV rays. If you can cover the skin up so they won't get burnt that is alright, but if it is not a possibility. Although I am not using it daily, because they can be in the stroller and that is protecting them from UV rays, but if they are in the direct sun at some point, sunscreen is good. You can get burnt in 5 minutes on a hot day.
sparkys2boys replied: That's what I have always been told to?? But it would seem worse to let them get to much too.. kwim?
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: I only use organic/natural sunscreens that don't have any dangerous chemicals in them. UV Natural is safe, and can be used on any age baby.
Or why not use clothes to keep them covered? They make UV-protection clothing now that is lightweight & breathable.
lovemy2 replied: I was always told that too - bu I agree with Mollie - probably an all natural one - but I would still check with your Ped - and make sure if he says ok you test it on a small part of her body before you slather it all over - Dylan had a reaction to one brand over the summer but not another
~Roo'sMama~ replied: My ped always says to not use sunscreen on babies under six months, unless you absolutely have to. In other words, try to keep her out of the sun as much as possible or put long sleeves on her and a hat, but if she's going to be in the sun, then it's better to use suncreen than for her to get burned.
Boo&BugsMom replied: You can use sunscreen on them, but make sure you do not put it on an area where she will get it in her mouth...ex: her hands. Also keep it away from her eyes. If she tends to rub her face a lot I would keep it off her face completely. Last summer when Aiden was very small yet I just put it on his legs and arms mostly, and very lightly on his face. I also bought one of those sunscreen sticks which seemed to apply easier than a cream based lotion.
I only use Waterbabies because it is PABA free. PABA makes a lot of people, esp. children break out in hives. Tanner is highly allergic to it. An organic one would be good too. Just make sure it doesn't contain PABA (it will say PABA free) so she doesn't break out from it.
My2Beauties replied: Ditto. My ped always said that subscreen isn't necessarily recommended on babies under 6 months but that if you are going on an outing where they will be exposed, because let's face it, I would not want to put my poor baby in long sleeves and pants on an extremely hot day like at the zoo or something, then to use Water Babies, because it's PABA free as Jennie just said. He said as long as they don't swallow it, it really won't hurt them
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: PABA isn't the only thing you need to be worried about. I don't know the specific name of the Water Babies you use, but here's a list of them & their ratings on a scale from 0-10, 10 being the worst: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/wordsearc...ry=Water+babies .
Boo&BugsMom replied: It's a 4, so I'm really not worried about it, but thank you though.
Mollie, can I ask what you use and where you get it? I buy an organic bug spray that works super well (way better than anything like Off) and I'm curious to know what organic brands of sunscreen there are too.
mommy~to~a~bunch replied: I use clothing when I can, first. If it's just way too hot for clothes, I will use the UV Naturals. I buy it on-line here: http://amotherstouchusa.com/index.php?main...products_id=135.
There's lots more organic/natural ones. Aubrey's Organics & California Baby are other good brands. Try checking your local health food store. They might carry some there.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Oooh I forgot about the water babies suncreen stick! I have that too - it's so hard to not get sunscreen in their eyes when you use the lotion. the stick makes it way easier. Last summer when I had to use sunscreen on Allie I sometimes just used the stick on her whole body instead of the lotion, cuz she was so small.
MommyToAshley replied: Same here... we were told not to do it under 6 months. Luckily Ashley's birthday fell so that by the really hot weather came around, she was already 6 months old.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: They have California Baby stuff at our Target. I've always wanted to try their stuff, but I usually can't spend the extra dollars. Same with Burt's Bees.... I LOVE Burts Bees stuff and now that they have it at Target I'm always wanting to buy it.

Jackie012007 replied: I used an SPF 30 Organic Baby sunscreen... I can't remember the name though. I know I got it from Hannaford. But yeah I would go with organic - I think Burt's Bees makes sunscreen too.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: It's true - no sunscreen for kids under 6 months. If you are concerned, just put her in a stroller with a large canopy. The kind that goes all the way down. Also put a hat on her and long-sleeves (breathable material though).
I have tried the organic ones, like CA Baby and felt they never worked. My kids still burned. So I went back to using Coppertone Water Babies - it's the only one that really protects IMO.
Jackie012007 replied: I found my sunscreen - it's Earth's Best, made by JASON. Carly has sensitive skin and I was able to use it on her, no problem!
