Are your kids wearing the right size - for their age?

TeagansMom609 wrote: The other day I went to Old Navy to buy Teagan a few things (by the way their stuff for fall is so cute) and when I tried the stuff on her she fit in the 0-3 month jeans perfect and this little skirt outfit. She's 6 months! 6 month clothing is way big on her. My mom bought her some 6-9 month clothes the other day I said she probably wont be wearing them anytime soon! Anyone else have this problem?

Kirstenmumof3 replied: thumb.gif Yeah we have the same problem! Claudia is 2 and she is still wearing a lot of 12-18mth stuff! 24mth clothes are just too big! In pants she wears a lot of 12mths, but shirts she needs 18mths.

MommyToAshley replied: We were the opposite, my DD was always a couple sizes ahead. She just turned 2 and she wears 3T and 4T now. wink.gif I was sad because she was only in the size 0-3 months for a couple of weeks weeks, and then she went through a major growing spurt and was in the 3-6 months sizes for two weeks also. I had so many cute clothes that size that she didn't get to wear.

kit_kats_mom replied: Yep. K's still in 12-18 mos and most of those pants are still too big in the waist for her. She's two ohmy.gif

jolene555 replied: we had the opposite true as well, but i always attributed it to her wearing hand-me-downs. georgia is 8 mo now and wearing anywhere between 9 an 18 months.

maestra replied: Jaci was always way ahead, but her growth slowed down just after she turned one. She had a major growth spurt this summer and grew almost 3 inches. So now, she turns 2 on Thursday and is wearing size 2T.

Boys r us replied: Yup!!

Braedon is 2 and a 1/2 and he's still wearing 12-18 mnths!
He's so short!

Now Tanner, he was always ahead of his age in sizes!..oh well!

ediep replied: Jason will be 2 on Thursday and he fits perfectly into 18 months pants. The tops are too tight though, so he wears 24 month or 2T tops. I guess he is short and stocky

Josie83 replied: Cassie's a little short thing as well, and so skinny! She wears clothes that are meant for children younger than her, a lot of the time she'll wear her cousin Kate's castoffs from a year ago! I think its funny, I've always had the same problem finding things to fit, and she does too rolleyes.gif xx

MommyToAshley replied:

I hope I don't sound dumb here, but what are castoffs? blush.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I have had this problem with Ethan (who is also 6 mos). wink.gif He is wearing some 0-3 mos still and the majority is 3-6 mos. unsure.gif Some brands also fit differently.

Maddie was always right on...still is. biggrin.gif

3_call_me_mama replied: I think castoffs are another word for hand-me-downs.. but not positive.

Cameron will be 2 in November and is wearing mostly 2T pants but 3T tops, he needs the length in the arms or the sleeves and such, but his waist is tiny so we are still in 2Tslim pants (when we can find them!). Kathleen is only a few days old, she was 3 days past due and barely fits into preemie clothes (she has a couple outfits that we bought just in case, and they are a little big on her), so it might be a while befoe we hit the 0-3 stuff.

TeagansMom609 replied: Well Teagan got weighed today. She is 15 lbs. 8 oz. and 25 inches. I think thats small for 6 months? I thought she was going to weigh atleast 18 lbs by now! I guess that explains why she needs smaller clothes.

Josie83 replied:
Hehe! That's how I always feel when I don't get the American sayings, lol. Castoffs are just secondhand clothes from someone, do you call them handmedowns? Like Kate casts off what she doesnt wear any more and Cassie gets them! biggrin.gif xx

Maddie&EthansMom replied:

Yep, it is probably 10th to 25th percentile. Just like Ethan who weighed 15 lbs 1 oz at his 6 month appt on Monday. wub.gif

Elle replied: Brighton is 2 and wears 3T, but it depends on the brand. The girls were the other way round, they wore 18-24 mos. until they were almost 3. ohmy.gif

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Before Jade turned one she was always behind the size. But now she's 2 and she can wear 2T-3T. She can wear some 24 months, but dresses. The pants tend to be too short for her.

loveydad replied: Yes! The twins when they were growing up were a size behind usually. Carter and Clara can only fit into some 6-9 months things. Our little chunk, Nicky, has always been a size ahead! 12 months and already fitting in 18 month clothes!

ctymom replied: Erica is 10 months old and wears 18 months and even a few 24 months. She has growing room in the 24 though. It's crazy how the sizes differ so much between clothes.

Pamela

Lollie replied: Hi..... smile.gif

Brianna will be 5 months old this month and shes wearing 6-9 months old clothing!! rolling_smile.gif She has grown out of so much of her stuff cos of all the weight shes put on...Shes a real chubby bunny! wub.gif

mommy2mylittleangels replied: Oh yes i have this problem as well, my daughter is almost 4 but she can still fit in to her shorts and actually most of her things that are 12-18 months!!! A couple pairs of her shorts and shirts that she still wears are 6 months!!! I have clothes that she has never worn cause they are for 2t and she can't fit in to them WAT TO BIG!!!! She has been like that ever since she was a baby though. You are not the only one, the way i see it if she can still wear them then i am going to buy them cause they are too cute for words!!!!

Guest replied: I think the Old Navy stuff tend to run big anyway.

What I love are the brands-- I forget which ones-- that actually print on the lable what sizes and weights are covered by each size!

As far as my kids go: Brian is big for his age: he's 6 years old and a size 8 (although they're long on him. His birth parents must have been Sumo wrestlers!)

Julia is skinny!! She's 4 1/2 and is just growing out of 4T

Kira is 19 months and is almost ready to move into size 24 months.

I've always thought that an "average" child would be one size above their age... so a 5 year old would wear a size 6, and so on.

A&A'smommy replied: Alyssa is 10 months old and still wears some 3-6 months clothes she use to wear her size or bigger then she started walking and she is SOOO skinny and STRONG.

mama3x replied: DS used to always be ahead in sizes, wearing 3T clothes at about 18-24 months (I blame the diaper but it's the butt size he inherited from me).

DD is all over the place depending on the style and brand. Right now she is about 20 lbs, close to 30 inches. She can fit some of her 3-6 months clothes yet she has 18 month old stuff that's too small.

Kaitlin'smom replied: well Kailtin is comming up on 21 months and she is in 12 month pants/shorts, tops and dresses 18 months, so she is slightly behind size always has been able to wear her clothes longer than most

3xsthefun replied: Maegan is 10 months old and she wears 6-9 months in somethings and 12 months in other things. She is about to big for 6-9 months clothes though. She could wear size 0-3 months until she was about 5 months.

Kaitlynn when she was 3 she wore size 2T- 3T in pants and 3T-4T in shirts. I think she has had a major growth spurt because now some of her 4T pants are short. I'm not sure what size she will go to next? LOL I have never looked really. She wears usually a size 4 or 5 in a shirt. She is 4 and 1/2 years old now.

coasterqueen replied: I have the same opposite. Just as Dee Dee described. Kylie has always been way ahead of the sizes and barely wore 0-3month stuff. sad.gif She's in 3T to 4T now and some 5T shirts.

MommyToAshley replied:
I am convinced our children came from the same body mold. LOL! rolling_smile.gif

coasterqueen replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

c. danzey replied:
i too have a tanner, he was born june 4th 1996. our boys are very close in age. he's wearing size 8 jeans and size 8 shirts.

no my dd is a different story. she's always been ahead in sizes too. she's 6 now and wears 7 pants and 7-8 shirts.

candi

maliksmommy replied: Malik is 2 years old and wears 3T and 4T. Occasionally he wears 5T shirts. Depending on the brand. He's always been a big boy tongue.gif

My2Beauties replied: Hanna is such a chubby wubby, she has been in 18-24 months since she was 8 months old!!! blink.gif She only wore 0-3 months until she was 8 weeks and wore 3-6 for 1 month after that and went straight to 6-9 for about two months....I don't think she ever fit 12 month unless it's in a brand that runs big!!! unsure.gif

Schnoogly replied: Iain has pretty much been right on, but he wears cloth diapers so he fills out his pants a little more than he would if he wore sposies. He mostly wears 24mo/2T now in pants, and 2T (and some 3T) shirts. He's almost 21 months.
