Sarah&Mackenzie wrote: sad.gif sad.gif I noticed some white spots on Mackenzie's tounge today. My aunt who is a nurse said it could possibly be thrush. Anyone child had this before? Could you tell me a litte more about it. I really hope she doesn't have to go back to the doctor again she was just there July 1st!!!

kimberley replied: Jacob did. it is a yeast infection in the mouth and very common. they just gave us this purple medicine for a week and it went away. the meds stain everything tho sad.gif

hope Mackenzie is better soon grouphug.gif

Josie83 replied: I haven't personally but seem to remember someone else on her ehaving this problem when their baby was breastfeeding . . . it could have been Amy or Karen but I don't remember blush.gif Sorry, I hope someone can help you! xx

coasterqueen replied: That purple mecidine that Kimberley is referring to is Gentian Violet.

My DD never had symptoms, but I did. Well, she did have a yeast rash every now and then though. We spent a better part of our 24 months of nursing with thrush. rolleyes.gif

Here's a TON of info on thrush and different treatments to cure it. I've tried just about all of them, lol.

HTH!

BTW, if your doc trys to give you nystatin...IMO I wouldn't use it. It has sugar in it and yeast just LOVES to feed off sugar. Go figure, why would they give something like that out? Never, ever worked for us.

Insanemomof3 replied: Demetrius got thrush BAD. If the white spots are not easily wiped off, then it probably is thrush. And the medicing does stain EVERYTHING. It is awful.

When he had it, I was still nursing, and got it in my breast too. it hurts really bad. bawling.gif

Hope she gets better soon. It is no fun. sad.gif

coasterqueen replied: BTW, there should be a link in that link above I gave you for minimizing gentian violet stains so make sure you see that wink.gif.

Sarah&Mackenzie replied:
She is bottle fed and we wash her nipples in the dishwasher and rinse her pacifiers off all the time. I just don't want her to be sick again.

Josie83 replied:
Sorry Karen blush.gif i didn't mean to imply something that wasn't true . . . what you mentioned about what you and Kylie went through must have been what I was thinking. Sorry blush.gif xx

coasterqueen replied:
Huh? I'm confused Josey. unsure.gif tongue.gif I must have missed something so obviously you didn't imply anything. happy.gif

coasterqueen replied:
Ok, sorry to be so insensitive thinking you are nursing. Those links still will be helpful.

One thing you need to do is boil bottle nipples and binkies every day AS WELL as all toys that can be boiled. All other toys that can't be boiled you should spray down with a vinegar rinse. Put about a cup to a gallon of water, if I remember correctly. If you WOH you need to have the sitter do that to ALL toys that she might come into contact with.

ALSO you should throw away all bottle nipples/binkies once a week until the thrush is gone.

Make sure you wash all clothes in washer with one cup vinegar rinse. Does she have a diaper rash (yeast rash)? If so you can use something like an OTC clomitrizole.

Josie83 replied: I just meant I was sorry for saying that it was your baby who had thrush when it wasn't . . . in other words I'm apologising for getting my facts wrong laugh.gif blush.gif Ugh I am such a der-brain today . . . I'm sorry xx

coasterqueen replied:
LOL! Well actually she did have thrush, just no know physical symptoms (well the yeast diaper rash).

No prob, though wink.gif.

lisar replied: Lexi had it any time she took amoxicillian (spelling?) They would give me this purple stuff that stains really bad and it taste horrible. I tried it.
