A simple question

PrairieMom wrote: I am shopping online for new bedding and am looking at duvet covers. I can find them every where, but I can't find duvets. Are they the same thing as down comforters?

cameragirl21 replied: not exactly.
a down comforter goes inside a duvet cover....the duvet is just the cover, it's like two sheets sewn together and one has to put something like a comforter inside it.
I got one sometime back at Macy's homestore, maybe check there and I imagine Bed Bath and Beyond would have them also.
Good luck. happy.gif

PrairieMom replied: uh huh. I thought the duvet cover was what you used to cover your duvet. (hence the name) dry.gif laugh.gif
Cool thanks. I know what I'm doing now. thumb.gif

TheOaf66 replied: gosh I dunno, this was on Queer Eye the other night and... laugh.gif laugh.gif not a chance I could help you with that one tongue.gif . I am still trying to get past have a "dust ruffle" on the bed...WHY? Some of the things we have I just shake my head at but accept.

PrairieMom replied:
YOu have a dust ruffle on your bed because it would look stupid with out one. Trust Jennie on that one! laugh.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: The dust ruffle hides all the crap that ends up shoved under the bed and not found for 6 months.

TheOaf66 replied:
ah yes, I am so very concerned about how my bed looks in case Home and Garden stops by for a photo shoot rolleyes.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
LOL!!! Thanks! thumb.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: Oh, by the way, think of a duvet as a slip cover for your existing comforter. Or like a pillow case for your comforter. Something like that. I've never bought one though.

Our Lil' Family replied: When I had a duvet I just put my old comforter in it!

CantWait replied: Robbie's has a duvet cover over his comforter. It's annoying as heck as it's always shifting and won't stay in one play. I prefer comforters, however they are very hard to find around here.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Really? We have plenty. I want a bedspread and not a comforter and I can't find any of those around here! mad.gif All we have are comforters...UGH! Not a dang bedspread in sight.

mom2my2cuties replied: Jeanie - Come to TN for a weekend smile.gif Right now they are all on sale CHEAP! Because winter is upon us!

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I put down comforters in duvet covers...isn't that what they're for? You can find duvet covers that have ties on the inside so that the comforter doesn't shift.

Our Lil' Family replied:
Huh...that would have been nice. I used safety pins! rolleyes.gif

booey2 replied:
To answer your question, a down comforter and duvet are the same thing. wink.gif

Terri

PrairieMom replied:
Then Why don't they just call them duvet's instead of making it complicated and confusing me? growl.gif laugh.gif

booey2 replied: Not sure, maybe a regional thing. Don't know. smash.gif dunno.gif They like to play with our minds. hug.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I'd LOVE to! I hate how comforters are shorter. I'd rather have a bedspread because my husband likes to fight me for the covers.

I think it is a regional thing. Duvet's here are just the slip covers that go over comforters.

luvmykids replied:
I did that too, the comforter was expensive and in great shape, I just didn't like it anymore. To solve Marie's problem I sewed snaps inside the duvet cover and on the comforter thumb.gif

A&A'smommy replied: wow I know absolutly nothing about any of this... blink.gif I have a comforter that is all I know blush.gif
